Is Project Brutality hated in Doomworld ?
Zulk RS replied to Stroggman's topic in Doom General Discussion
Ah cool. Thanks for clarifying. What this tells me is that the Dull and Boringness is brought on by map design not being compatible with Brutal Doom beyond the technical stuff. It's not the mapper's fault nor Brutal Doom's but for whatever reason, Brutal Doom gameplay just doesn't work with most vanilla focused map design. -
Is Project Brutality hated in Doomworld ?
Zulk RS replied to Stroggman's topic in Doom General Discussion
If I remember correctly, Brutal Doom got most of the hate because: 1. A lot of people kept giving wads and modders shit because it don't work with Brutal Doom. And a lot of people at the time were touting Brutal Doom as "How Doom was meant to be played" and "The correct way to play Doom in 2014" and it got on people's nerves. 2. I am not too sure about this one but I remember hearing Sarge did and said some not good stuff online and it got him hated. I feel like he's learned and moved on now so no hate to the guy. -

Sorry I don't quite understand what you mean here so please clarify. Are you saying that when you played Extermination Day with Brutal Doom it still had the same "Awesome at first but dull and boring later" effect or are you saying that it didn't get dull and boring as fast and it maintained a level of fun throughout the mapset (which is what happened to me when I played Doom 2 In Spain Only) -

Thanks. Will definitely look into that at some point. And yeah, rogue-like nature of Oblidge would fit Complex Doom I think though even on normal map sets like TNT, Icarus and Revilution, Complex Doom works great. (DISCLAIMER: Do not add any of the Complex Doom addons like Legendary Complex or Clusterfuck. It makes the thing frustrating and borderline unplayable) -
Is Project Brutality hated in Doomworld ?
Zulk RS replied to Stroggman's topic in Doom General Discussion
I'd like to add on to this. I don't know what it is about Brutal Doom and Project Brutality but when I play it for the first time in months, I unironically have more fun with it than vanilla doom. But the feeling quickly fades by MAP04 and it starts to get really dull and boring. I don't know why. One mapset where this didn't happen however, was Doom 2 In Spain Only. I don't know if this is some mapping magic by the talent behind that project or if Brutal Doom actually requires a certain kind of map design to keep the fun going. I will admit the feelings did fade to the point where it didn't have the "Better than vanilla" effect that the first two maps had but even way into the playthrough it didn't get boring or dull like it usually does. I wonder if Hell on Earth Starter Pack/Extermination Day (The mapset that was built with Brutal Doom in mind by Brutal Doom creator) will also keep it from becoming boring. I should play Extermination Day with Brutal Doom to test it out sometime (The first time I played the mapset, I loaded it up with Complex Doom for the memes) Project Brutality also has the same effect which was honestly surprising to me because to me Project Brutality is like Brutal Diet-Complex Doom. I honestly thought I would like it more than Complex but nope. I still like Complex Doom better. Completely unrelated but my fever-addled brain though "Zero Interest" was some kind of Zero Tolerance mod for doom :P -

Nah. No hate to Brutal Doom or Project Brutality. Complex Doom and Doom RL Arsenal are more my style. -
Ah okay. Thanks for the info. EDIT: So... OP got Discord at around August 1. So this whole talking to someone and clicking and forming a bond is less than a week long affair. To use OP's own words here, you "threw away your heterosexuality" after talking to someone for less than a week... online... on Discord. Don't take this as me trying to invalidate your feelings about the guy, I am really not, but maybe give it a few more months? I mean the Honeymoon phase in relationships is something that happens, or so I am told.
-
Hold up. Did I miss a page here? Where did you get all of the stuff from? I didn't get any of this stuff from OP's original post. EDIT for clarity: The above is a genuine question. I don't know where you got this info from but I want to know. Also to OP, I can't really say anything on the topic since I have never been in a relationship before myself. However I will advise to be careful. Don't trust strangers on the internet at face value when it comes to super serious stuff like inviting them to live in your house and have relationships.

What track from Doom annoys you the most?
Zulk RS replied to Astar's topic in Doom General Discussion
If we count TNT then I would say MAP06 music. Because it just feels like the same three notes looped. I would also throw in the Nu Doom and Doom Eternal soundtrack in there as well. As someone who has tried to listen to the soundtrack but not played the games, I am sure the tracks work really well in the game itself and enhances the experience but as just a track to listen to, it just feels too noisy to be enjoyable for me. From Doom 2, I would say that music that plays in Barrels of Fun. It feels like a short melody that's just looped and it starts out really enjoyable but then it quickly becomes white noise. I actually don't hate it but I just don't like it either. -
It honestly depends. If you want it so that enemies don't make noise when they are alerted so they can surprise attack the player, You can do that with Ambush Enemies behind sound blocking linedefs. However if you want some enemies to not make any noise at all, I think you can do that with ACS scripting.

I don't have a brother so I had to sabotage my own progress through Doom II by saving right before a cyberdemon rocket hits me.
-
And that is why I save scum manually!
-
I remember I did a challenge run once where I allowed myself to save only after picking up a key. It's way less frequent than how much I normally save but... well that was the point of the Challenge Run.
-
Then by all means, become the Save-scum god! You CAN get better while still playing with saves.
-
Okay. Do you enjoy playing with saves or do you actually want to start playing saveless? Because in all honesty, it IS possible to "Get good" doing either. If you don't enjoy playing saveless, then what's the point of getting good at beating maps saveless? You can just hone your skills while also saving. I like playing with many saves. While I still suck when it comes to playing saveless pistol-start, I don't really care because that's not how I enjoy playing. But with saves and continuous play, I have gotten better at the game to where I can beat maps now that I couldn't in the past. So it is possible to get good while playing with saves.

I somehow flip flop between "jibs" and "gibs". Though I use "Jibs" more often than "gibs"

How often do you bring out the regular shotgun when you have the SSG?
Zulk RS replied to MrGigglefingers's topic in Doom General Discussion
You're not imagining things. The normal Shotgun really is more accurate at further ranges. The SSG has a much bigger horizontal and vertical spread. The normal Shotgun has no vertical spread and a smaller horizontal spread. Much easier to snipe things when you have 5 pellets in a horizontal line than a cluster of pellets. -

One thing I like to do with the SSG is what I call "SSG Melee" Where I move into melee with Barons, fire the SSG to make sure all the pellets hit and then move back. It's like a more easier and high DPS version of Berserk boxing with barons. -
Yeah I did mean to quote you. I probably should have done a better job highlighting exactly what part of your post I was responding to. This was the part of your post I was actually responding to. I guess what I really wish was less high difficulty and combat puzzley, arcadey wads and more wads like Solar Struggle and Ancient Aliens and DTS-T. I went back on what I said because I realized I was being an idiot and forgetting a bunch of wads that do fit this criteria.
-
I honestly kinda wish there were a bit more wads that felt cohesive. I may be completely wrong in this but a lot of PWADs feel to me like it's just a collection of really cool looking and challenging maps. Like they're good maps but it's just maps. No sense of being story or adventure. It's why I liked Icarus, Ancient Aliens, Solar Struggle and even DTS-T (kinda) so much. Empyrion is also really cool and while it doesn't exactly have a story all the maps in it feel connected to each other. Thinking about this for a few more minutes, I am an idiot. There are still a ton of maps that do feel like an adventure. Really hard but still an adventure. I'm spouting nonsense.

Zulk RS replied to MrGigglefingers's topic in Doom General Discussion
Quite a lot actually. While it's really kinda obsolete in the IWADs if you play Continuous, on PWADs, there are many situations where you'd need to bust out the Shotgun. Getting rid of a bunch of enemies on a ledge, fighting against a group of zombies, fighting against 1-2 imps or zombies. These are where I use it the most. -
Excuse me... 22?

Does the super shotgun have more or equal damage as a rocket launcher?
Zulk RS replied to MODSKILLTHISACCOUNTNOW's topic in Doom General Discussion
Now I wanna know how easier/harder Ultimate Doom will be if someone modded in the SSG and removed the rocket launcher (all rockets and Rocket boxes turned into shells)
