    AvP 2010 sucked imo. AvP 2 was a much better game and more well-polished. For those who complain about dated graphics, you can easily pick up the redux mod for it, it revamps the graphics to 2010 standards and easily knocks AvP 2010 out of the ballpark. I chose level design.... Because most modern first-person shooters are fairly linear and we are inundated with COD, Battlefield, Halo, and Medal of Honor. Games like DOOM, Quake, Half-Life, and oh boy here it comes... HEXEN Were good because of level design... but Hexen was extremely frustrating and challenging! XD

    Yup! That's what badassery is all about! DOOM is the most badass game ever made. The new DOOM should just return to the basics. Aliens + Evil Dead 2 + Dungeons and Dragons 2nd Edition = DOOM Add in 1/4 cup of Phobos. Add in 1/4 cup of Deimos. Add in 1/4 cup of Hell. Add in 1/4 cup of Thy Flesh Consumed (Moon? Hell?! IDK? IDKFA!) Mix together gently, then fucking stir it up like you are in the DOOM Comic and you are about to rip and tear! Then once all mixed nice and awesomely, insert batter into cake pan. Put cake pan inside oven. Take cake out of oven. When taking cake out of oven, one must be wary of the occasional VALVE fan who will pop out and say that your cake is a lie. The cake is not a lie.... The cake of DOOM is a fucking badass who will rip and tear all that oppose it! DOOM! \m/ \m/
  4. I don't know man, I saw it a few months ago before I registered. I don't really remember the name of it... but yeah... Lost Souls and Pain Elementals are my worst nightmare. Anyone who's played PSX DOOM or DOOM 64 knows what I'm talking about lol.

    Dude, you don't need to slow it down for consoles. Consoles can handle faster paced stuff, we aren't dealing with SNES here you know?! The new DOOM is coming out for Playstation 4, Xbox One, and PC. Stuff that has controllers that can handle fast-paced gameplay. Consoles that can handle the fast-paced gameplay and action of DOOM and stuff. We aren't in the NES or Atari days anymore my friend. We are in 2014. Next-gen consoles can handle fast-paced gameplay. We don't need another slow shooter. We have too many first-person shooters these days that make us feel sluggish man. Seriously, we don't need to feel sluggish. We need to feel energetic, fast, slim, athletic, agile. Also, I would like to point out that Halo: The Master Chief Collection on Xbox One is running at 60 Frames per Second and it's really fast-paced gameplay. We need to feel the game you know. Not feel disconnected. DOOM isn't Halo, and DOOM isn't Wolfenstein. Lol in my opinion DOOM is motherfucking DOOM. DOOM shouldn't try to be something that it isn't you know what I'm saying? I mean if we all think about it... DOOM just goes something like this. Take the technology from the Aliens movie (1986) Take the chainsaw and super shotgun from Evil Dead 2 (1987) And finally take the demons right out of Dungeons and Dragons 2nd Edition!

    Wolfenstein: The New Order is a good Wolfenstein game. But it's not DOOM. That's the thing that people here really don't realize. While the new DOOM should have a serious story, I don't want a repeat of DOOM 3 with a laughable story. I'd rather have a really serious story with tons of dark humor. In otherwords, think Evil Dead or Aliens kind of humor. Really dark stuff.
  7. It's not really an alpha with broken levels. It's in beta now, and you can practically exit all of the levels. I haven't found a single broken level yet. It's really good. I've been playing somewhat, but the music isn't familiar with me.
  8. Playing at midnight always makes it scary. Regardless of whether or not your stoned. The one thing that always scares me is those fucking Lost Souls man.... the Lost Souls, and PAIN ELEMENTALS!

    That's not what I meant. What I meant was that take from Black Mesa's level design on expanding on the original game. Maybe id Software should expand on original DOOM level design is what I'm trying to say. :P

P.S Do not play this at midnight or you will be scarred for life by the music and the game.... *shudders* I hear that omininous chanting and oh lord... the Icon of Sin is scary as hell in Lost Levels! *shudders* The only thing that keeps me sane is quoting one-liners from Evil Dead 2 and Army of Darkness and my love for the Super Shotgun and Chainsaw... Groovy.

    It's really sad. I had to remedy this with the 21-level episode created by modders known as In Hell Director's Cut V1.1 and the Icon of Sin mod for DOOM 3. I really wish they would have had the final boss be the Spider Mastermind, but instead we get the Cyberdemon and we return to boring labs... So much for DOOM 3 being a "remake" of the original DOOM. I don't really see it being a remake... if anything Half-Life 1/Black Mesa is more of a remake of DOOM.

Yeah, I still see DOOM enemies as monsters all right... in DOOM PSX I really do feel like Ash Williams from Evil Dead and I find myself quoting one-liners from Evil Dead 2 and Army of Darkness and getting scared by the monsters in the PSX version..... Try out the PSX DOOM TC and the PSX DOOM Lost Levels and you will see what I mean man.... don't play it at midnight! Don't!

    Wait, no you said that you wish people would stop bitching and moaning about how the new DOOM isn't like the old days. You wish they would simply be excited for the new DOOM. Yes, I can be excited for the new DOOM. I am right now, but I don't know if they are going to have the Spider Mastermind or Arachnotrons.... Or if there's actually going to be Hell in the game. I mean DOOM 3 was 2 levels that's it.

    I have Touchdown. You basically went on a rant about how DOOM 3 didn't really look or feel like DOOM. I agree with you. DOOM isn't a pure action game, and it isn't pure horror. It's a mixture in between. The PSX version I think really captured this quite perfectly.

    Yeah, DOOM is set in the 22nd century right? By then they probably have that sort of thing. Also, the new DOOM should have extreme blood and gore. That's what made DOOM so memorable back in the day was it's gore. Maybe they should do what Killing Floor 2 is doing but better.

    DOOM 4's approach should be the 70's 80's retrofuture kind of feel. See the movie Alien, Aliens, Event Horizon, and Blade Runner for the kind of feel I mean. Now DOOM wasn't pure action as many people think, nor was it pure horror. The perfect DOOM in my honest opinion was the PSX DOOM. It was creepy, omninous, and the music.... man that music stays with you years after you play it. The monsters were much more creepier, and the guns sounded powerful. However ammo was very scarce. The same goes for DOOM 64. Ammo was scare, guns sounded powerful, monsters were scary, and the game was all around scary and awesome. DOOM 64 in my opinion is the real DOOM 3. Not Painkiller, not Serious Sam, not DOOM 3. DOOM 64 is the real DOOM 3 folks, it successfully combined action with horror and is a very underrated DOOM game. If DOOM 4 should be anything.... DOOM 4 should be a sequel to DOOM 64.

    Threshold of Pain 1 and 2 are excellent PSX DOOM wads. I'd recommend that plus the PSX DOOM TC.

    It would be a difficult sound pack to achieve yes, (wow I just sounded a lot like Yoda there for a second). But it would definitely be worth it. I mean could you imagine a hi-res PSX Doom sound pack, playing that with the PSX DOOM TC and some hi-res textures that have been modified for PSX DOOM TC? That plus smooth monsters and smooth weapon ports would be heaven or paradise for pretty much all PSX DOOM fans. I'm a huge PSX DOOM fan, I realize that it is a tall order... but maybe you could do it.

    I am very intrigued by this article, however I doubt that id Software will revamp the original DOOM. You see if someone is to revamp or reboot the original DOOM they should do it right. Personally, I like the blood and gore system in Shadow Warrior, Soldier of Fortune, and Killing Floor 2. In terms of level design, perhaps they should take notes from Black Mesa. Black Mesa took original level design but they revamped it extremely. Perhaps id Software could do the same thing with the original DOOM. In terms of monster design, they should seriously return to that classic Dungeons and Dragons look that we all remember from the Classic DOOM. Frightening, scary, and downright creepy. In terms of weapon design, I want the classic shotties back. Anyone else agree? I miss the Shotgun and Super Shotgun from Classic DOOM. I had to get a mod for DOOM 3 to replace the Shotgun with the Ithaca M37 Stakeout (the Aliens shotgun also used in DOOM). In terms of music, heavy metal and ambient music would be perfect!

    I have always imagined something along the lines of the PS1/N64 version of DOOM, dark, gritty, and serious. Also, I've imagined DOOMGuy being like Ash Williams from Evil Dead 2 and Army of Darkness. The demons should look extremely disturbing, but if you have tons of blood and gore... it will be raining blood! Don't have pitch black areas or complete darkness like DOOM 3 though. What made PSX DOOM and DOOM 64 the most scariest games in my opinion, was the shear fact that the audio and music drawed you in that combined with the fact that the game took place most of the time in Hell.... and the fact that Hell was scary. They should have a 70's 80's retrofuture kind of feel you know? I mean DOOMGuy should be a marine assigned as a security guard when suddenly demons break out of the gateway on Phobos. You and a squad of marines go inside the hangar and it's like Aliens (1986) you know? The demons pretty much kill all of your squad in front of you and you are the only one left. Rather than give you a radar display on your visor, you have to use a motion tracker. The demons should look like something out of Dungeons and Dragons 2nd Edition. On the side of the audio coin, perhaps they should do a blend of heavy metal and ambient music like the original. In terms of sound effects, damn it get Aubrey Hodges or Andrew Hulshult to do the music and sound effects. Heck, I'd like it if perkrisitian did the sounds for the new DOOM game. The story should go like this. The player takes the role of a marine (unnamed to further represent the person playing), "one of Earth's toughest, hardened in combat and trained for action", who has been incarcerated on Mars after assaulting a senior officer when ordered to fire upon civilians. There, he works alongside the Union Aerospace Corporation (UAC), a multi-planetary conglomerate and military contractor performing secret experiments on interdimensional travel. Recently, the teleportation has shown signs of anomalies and instability, but the research continues nonetheless. Suddenly, something goes wrong and creatures from hell swarm out of the teleportation gates on Deimos and Phobos. A defensive response from base security fails to halt the invasion, and the bases are quickly overrun by monsters; all personnel are killed or turned into zombies. A military detachment from Mars travels to Phobos to investigate the incident. The player is tasked with securing the perimeter, as the assault team and their heavy weapons are brought inside. Radio contact soon ceases and the player realizes that he is the only survivor. Being unable to pilot the shuttle off of Phobos by himself, the only way to escape is to go inside and fight through the complexes of the moon base.

    Anyone else remember the Episode 1 skybox being used in DOOM 2 screenshots originally? I kind of like how they made DOOM 2 look more atmospheric.

    Maybe the new DOOM should be like DOOM 64 or PSX DOOM. Have a thick and moody atmosphere, keep it action-packed, maybe have an inventory system ala Resident Evil, and maybe have an emphasis on Hell because the last DOOM game felt really cheesy and generic, seriously there was no Spider Mastermind, no Evil Dead meets Aliens kind of feel. The new DOOM needs to have an Evil Dead meets Aliens kind of feel. I feel as if the new DOOM should have a very dark sense of humor like Evil Dead and tons of gore like Evil Dead. The technology should be like from Aliens.... Seriously, id Software or Bethesda Softworks or whoever is developing this should watch these movies to draw inspiration from. Evil Dead 2 (1987) Army of Darkness (1992) Alien (1979) Aliens (1986) Blade Runner (1984 I think) Event Horizon (1997) In terms of music, have a thick and moody ambience soundtrack though it would also be nice to have a heavy metal soundtrack in the style of 80's and early 90's thrash. Also, it would be nice to have instrumental black metal or death metal soundtrack, as I feel as if some bands that have a sinister sound would really fit DOOM. The sounds should be really meaty and pack a lot of power. Maybe hire Trent Reznor or hire Aubrey Hodges. Blood and gore is best described by GoatLord as how he mentioned that we should see bones cracking, snapping, and popping. We should see blood spilling out, none of this mist, it should be extreme realistic blood and gore. The very topic of level design, I would say go abstract like John Romero... but then for Hell just make something that's scary as fuck and really frightening. Something that's just otherworldly. Put some emphasis on story, but please don't make it the entire focus. Story is nice to focus on if it's a really good one. But if it's not a good story, then please just focus on gameplay. No weapon limit though. Weapon limits are stupid and detract from the fun aspect of gameplay. Have ammo limits though, that can be upgraded with backpack pickup. Regenerating health is a no unless it's a little needle that you pick up and you can inject yourself with later on... (see Far Cry 3 for reference).

    I am not entirely sure if you have or have not tried out the PSX DOOM: Lost Levels yet, but it's good and may I say the PSX DOOM TC is kickass and it's the best TC or wad or anything that exists in my opinion period.
