I'm new to posting wads. I was under the impression that those need to be included in order for the thing to be playable.
What should I remove from the wad file? -

A while back I posted about my work in progress Ultimate Doom megawad, called Doom: The Penumbra Episodes. Well it's now finished (well, I might continue to work on it and release updates, but for the time being I'm sick of working on this thing, haha) and I want to finally share it with people for the first time. I still cannot figure out how to take screen captures in zdoom, hope you'll forgive me for that. Hope you like it, I've worked for many months by myself on this thing and I can't look at it anymore but I think (and hope) I did a pretty deccent job. :) -
DOOM: The Penumbra Episodes
Coming soon, I hope to release Doom: The Penumbra Episodes, a megawad of Ultimate Doom (I chose it over Doom II because I like the episode format a lot. It'll be my second megawad after Doom: Chaos Hunter, which in my opinion was far more amateur than this one thus far. I intended for the level design not to be anything super detailed like Alien Vendetta or crazy like Hell Revealed, its meant to resemble the levels of Classic Doom, both in appearance and difficulty. So far I have episode 1 finished aside from some asthetic details that need to be added, and about half of the levels of the other three episodes completed. It will use the resources of Ultimate Doom, but I use them in a (hopefully) creative way that gives the game a different sense of flow and story from Doom, with locations like Limbo and Ganymede (and of course Hell, but thats not exactly original :P). Just wanted to post this so that info about it is on the web and not all simply sitting on my computer.
Here's the level listing:
Episode 1 - A Terrestrial Nightmare
E1M1 - The Armory
E1M2 - Data Mainframes
E1M3 - Bunker
E1M4 - Security Station
E1M5 - Laboratories
E1M6 - Garbage Disposal

E1M8 - Base Core
E1M9 - Subterrainians (Secret Level)
Episode 2 - The Hallows of Limbo
E2M1 - Limbo Entrance
E2M2 - Place of the Lost
E2M3 - Valley of Skulls
E2M4 - Styx
E2M5 - The Tombs
E2M6 - Altar of Blood
E2M7 - Wastelands
E2M8 - Tartarus
E2M9 - Hidden Chamber (Secret Level)
Episode 3 - Ganymede Hellhive
E3M1 - Ganymede Anomaly
E3M2 - Abandoned Plant
E3M3 - Infernal Outpost
E3M4 - Infested Station
E3M5 - Resource Processing
E3M6 - Dilapidated Area

Really wish I could include screenshots but I cannot figure out for the life of me how to do it since it just shows blackness. Just posting this to see if it catches anyones attention and if this is something that sounds good to people. :P -
Ah okay I see.
From looking at the files of megaWADs that have unique level names, it looks like even with a mapinfo lump, you still need to make the graphic files of the level names themselves on the intermission screen. Is there a fairly simple way to make the text image files that id need for level names? Or am I completely out of my league in hoping I can fairly simply change the level names? :P -
Hope this isn't asked too often but I couldn't find threads where I could find a clear answer. I'm making an Ultimate Doom megawad and I would love to be able to change the names of the levels and episodes, as well as the text at the end of each episode. In the future I'd love to be able to do so with a Doom II megawad as well. What's the best way to do this? Most answers I've seen suggest editing the MAPINFO lump using SLADE or XWE or a program like that, but I can't find anything called that in my pwad.

I'm not a big fan of the Icon of Sin, or some variation of John Romeros head as the end boss of a megawad, as it doesn't seem very original or creative. What are some of the best megawads that have an actual fightable monster as the final boss of the game?
The only real one I can think of that I've seen is Doom: Survive in Hell. Or any Ultimate Doom megawad since those tend to have the Spider Mastermind as the final boss, but those don't count. -
No problem, thanks for playing it! It's true, I started the megawad when I was still rather in experienced so you can see my own improvement as a map builder throughout the megawad. I would be interested to hear what you think of the later levels.

Yeah, I always thought it was depressing, largely because the levels it in are levels that disturbed me as a kid. Phobos Anomaly, a level where you just get consumed by monsters at the end, and House of Pain, where there is a gallery of flayed bodies in an inacessible room filled with blood.

Here's a Doom 2 megawad file I worked on for many months, called DOOM: Chaos Hunter. It is still somewhat in it's beta stage, with some textures still not centered and stuff like that, but it's in playable form and I'd love to show it to people. It is zdoom only and is somewhat large because it has a lot of custom monsters from realm667. My goal was to make a megawad that plays like classic doom but has added monsters. If anyone is willing to play it and lemme know what they think, I would find it very awesome :)

Well I AM a bit of a newb at Doom building so I guess I'm not too surprised there. I consider the IWAD Doom levels to be pretty spectacular, id be astounded if my levels looked as good as John Romeros or Sandy Petersens (aside from Nirvana and The Chasm). I don't know, I guess I intend for this megawad to be seen for what they are rather than be seen as attempting to break new ground in the ZDoom community or anythingg like that.
Perhaps I should have made the doors move faster though. A movement speed of 10 seemed fine to me prior to being told otherwise :p
