mapping for it would become significantly less versatile due to the lack of a good close-range, mid-tier weapon. that ties together the entire gameplay loop -
what a corny way to say "shut the hell up and work together already" i do agree with it regardless. instead of sitting here debating over ideals, you guys need to focus on telling the devs how they should rework the spec, what stuff to add, what to cut, what boundaries need to be in place, how to separate corporate from community, etc. id24 is here, we can't travel back in time and stop it from being developed, we need to figure out how to go forward from here and how to reach some sort of compromise instead of endlessly bickering.

yeah, it's just....really bad. none of the people who worked on either the new port or id24 have any malicious intentions. they've tried time and time again to make that clear, but a lot of people seemingly don't want to listen or even work with them to reach some sort of compromise. a lot of people have valid concerns, but for every post like that, there's five others that read as though they see everyone who worked on it as being pure evil. (see: gpl launderer) some of you need to step back and realize that you're talking to other humans and not corporate ai's. you can reach an agreement with them, but you need to stop seeing them as an enemy.

because the tools and source ports are still made by the community. if id decides to fuck around and add some more dumb shit, then they're not gonna get any content for it because nobody wants to be associated with it. it'd be a waste of money and development time, because they rely on the community to make content. i trust that boris will refuse to add udb support for whatever that may be; contrarian dipshits likely aren't gonna be smart enough to know how to fork it and add it themselves. it's fine. their hands are tied when it comes to getting new wads, so i feel like anything bad they may do won't end very well.

that is literally the same codebase that kex doom uses, it's just not wrapped in kex is all. afaik most if not all the id24 features are derived from features in that source port (the devs can correct me if i'm wrong on that)

...yeah, no, this just looks silly. it's impressive and all, but i gotta concur with chezza in that the maps would have to be tailor-made for raytracing. also, idk how well voxel doom works with it either lol

did we ever get an explanation as to why this is? you'd think that the people responsible for moderation would actually understand how a doom wad works and what would actually be best for the mods section giving the community; is there a way to get in touch with them to at least try to figure something out? iirc someone suggested having a central community-run account to handle uploading stuff, would they be willing to let that happen to allow more finely tuned moderation?

sitting around going oh we can't criticize them because so-and-so did this and that is fuckin stupid. gee, maybe two things can be bad at once! it's extremely difficult to see the implementation of the wad uploader as anything other than a poorly thought out mess due to its rampant plagiarism, and with it currently being reliant on community reports alone, that's likely to be followed by terry wads, porn, and gore. it needs to be changed, not only because it's the right thing to do (plagiarism is bad, who knew), but people would prefer not to be exposed to a bunch of extremely nsfw shit because the official mod browser lets tons of it slip through the cracks. there's plenty of reasons to criticize it, and attempting to shut them down with goofy-ass arguments like that isn't gonna help anyone on either side of the aisle. the people working on moderation duties need to know what the community would be okay with so they can take appropriate action.

For a project, do you prefer one HUGE mapset (over 32 maps) or separate releases?

an episodic release format is better not only for the player, but especially the mapper. there's so much more you can do with that format; you have more options for dehacked, it feels more natural to completely change the tone and themes, and you can spend way more time finely tuning things instead of worrying about finishing the entire series because you're releasing chunks of it at a time. also, gigawads are fucking awful from a player's perspectives. for christ sake, keep it below 40. no!!!!!! -

you didn't know that? yeah, zm has a direct landline for inquiries n stuff. it's an old handset, a friend of his showed a pic of it somewhere once. he rarely responds to dms, so it's the best way to reach him. he gets a lot of calls tho so you might be put on hold; if you hear a song you might need to wait because he's in a call with someone else. he's pretty busy so it's fairly normal. if you want the number then dm me edit: damn my epic prank has failed -
