  1. Damn, Jenesis MAP08's midi is sick. Really great track!

  2. Sometimes, you do things you later regret. And then you're thinking: "I should've done this, shouldn't have done that..." but it's all past now.

Remember that you did not have the information that you do now, Hindsight is always 20/20. The important thing is to learn from our mistakes, and try and understand how we made them in the first place.

  3. NaZa

Really sorry for bothering you man but wadsinprogress.info is being invaded with cialis bots on the most recent wad, Mancubus2isafaggot is continuing to flame other people and their works. If you could sort it out somehow.

Manc2 is the funniest chap I've seen in a long time, his trolling skills are admirable. I would compile his quotes into a book.

He's not me, saying just in case the previous sentence led you to such a conclusion.

Out of morbid curiosity I took a lot. I don't think his trolling skills are admirable at all - kind of shit tier stuff really. Trolls can be entertaining sometimes when they're actually witty and intelligent. There's none of that here - just another boring edgelord who thinks he's being clever and original by being insulting. Who hasn't seen that before?

  4. Fancy name change - formerly DoomLover234, well, kinda obvious why I changed it. I use NaZa everywhere anyway.

  5. Stupid question - can anybody recommend me a playpal with good greens without lightening up blue too much?

You can edit it in SLADE3, there are lots of palette editing features applicable to either individual indexes, ranges of indexes or whole palettes.

Check out the one in "final doom return of the evil god" (FDEVIL.WAD), reviewed by geo a few Chronicles ago. Might be what you're looking for.

  6. Does anyone here follow Formula One? Who are your favorites for the title battle, opinions on Force India etc

  7. As y'all know I've unfortunately cancelled work on Abhorrence due to a lack of inspiration and interest. I'm now wondering, should I just do single map releases until I judge I'm worthy enough to make an episode or a megawad?

yes. Possibly even continue your speedmap thread.

Yep, make small releases so you can better learn from your errors!

      Demon of the Well

If you still have the goal of doing a longer solo set someday, I'd say try to create a short episode, somewhere in the 6 map range, give or take. Pacing and composition (and, optionally, a certain continuity) across a series of levels is a very important consideration for longer mapsets (whether they're entirely made by one author, or by several), and a doing a short episode like this will give you some practice with developing those skills without shackling yourself to a humongous (and thus overwhelming/demoralizing) mountain of work before you're ready.

  8. I have a small problem with my WIP Doom map. A door is marked DR Door Wait Open Close (Also Monsters) aka action 1 but it won't close and repeatedly makes door sounds. Anybody knows what is the issue here?

    2. Memfis

      Memfis

Probably one of these monsters is stuck (either due to being too close to a wall or due to the ceiling being below their "head"). That is known to cause problems with nearby moving sectors, even if they are not directly related. Try -nomonsters, I'm sure the door will work fine.

    3. scifista42

      scifista42

The problem mentioned by Memfis is one possibility. Another possibility is that, if the invisible door is a self-referencing sector and you made it incorrectly, it could cause monsters next to the self-referencing sector to be considered being inside a completely different sector. Your issue might even result from a combination of both these problems.

    4. NaZa

      NaZa

Thank you guys! Memfis was right, it was because of the chaingunners in the inviso door! Thank you!

  9. I was doing an Ironman revisit to Crusades today and I got to E4M6 before dying. I was so overwhelmed I didn't notice I played on HMP... :(

      Alfonzo

That's funny, I was playing a little something else by Richard Wiles a few minutes ago as part of my monthly foray into the archives for Ironman selection...

...It's probably for the best that we don't play SlayeR this month.

  10. If Serenity has letters forming serenity in its levels, and Infinity has letters forming infinity in its levels, why do letters in the Eternity levels form serenity?

  11. Damn... why doesn't cc4-tex work with Ultimate Doom? I mean it does but it's heaps of errors ;(

I thought of just rebuilding the TEXTURE1 lump from scratch anyway. Thanks for the suggestions tho!

    3. scifista42

      scifista42

Rebuilding TEXTURE1 and PNAMES is indeed necessary, but SLADE3 will handle most of it automatically if you just copy TEXTURE1/2 and PNAMES from Doom.wad into a new wad, then copy contents of cc4-tex.wad's TEXTURE1 and paste them into TEXTURE1 in the new wad.

  12. I've just been playing through Back to Saturn X E1, and I must admit I'm in love with MAP05's music. Whoever composed it, I'm dazzled. It's excellent!

      NaZa

also, it's meant to say files but why can't we edit statusii yet...

  14. Started work on a new WAD while I get the files for Abhorrence from my hard drive. Name of the WAD is Space (Mis)adventures... It will be split into 6 mini-episodes for Doom 2 limit removing. I didn't want to make a thread about it yet bc it'd be pointless but wanted to inform y'all I'm trying to combat my mapper's block so bad. Bwoah.

  15. Should I change my horribly generic name to something more original?

  17. I can't pass a map that has 28 monsters, is technically passable in 2 minutes, and on which I've worked on for only 2 hours. I can't pass it. And it's meant to be MAP01.

My small warm-up project to get some creative juices flowing - my inspiration is drying and I need to warm up to continue working on my main project. (if that makes any sense heh)

    4. NaZa

      NaZa

3 Revenants, 7 Demons and 18 Imps. Doesn't seem hard but when you take into account a UV speed would be possible in about 30 seconds...

  18. How hard would it be to implement a Tome of Power-like powerup in Doom? Would it require Decorate?

    1. Not Jabba

      Not Jabba

It would definitely require Decorate, but it wouldn't be hard. Decorate's powerups are universal, so you can create an item with the WeaponLevel2 powerup ability in Doom. You would need to manually create all of the "sister weapons" in Decorate, give all Doom weapons a SisterWeapon property that links it to the right powered version, and then the item would automatically switch each weapon when activated.

  23. Through these days, I'll tease you with some names of the levels for my upcoming WAD. There is a hidden meaning in them - it's yours to find it out. It has something to do with UDoom.

TEASER #1 - Crops in Rectangles

  24. Duke Nukem has some atmospheric music that seems to be overlooked. For instance, Layers of Dust would fit in a Doom level nicely. So would Plasma (duh), Lemon Chilllll, In Tents...

      JudgeDeadd

I think it's a bit sad that, when people think about DN3D's music, all they can think of is "Grabbag" (which I personally feel is a way overhyped and dull tune.)

("Grabbag" is DN3D's main menu theme btw. Wish there was a way to edit these comments)

  25. Some questions about Heretic compactibility -

    1. How many VISPLANEs does Heretic support?
    2. Is there any limit-removing port with Heretic compactibility besides ZDoom?

    1. Show previous comments  1 more
    2. NaZa

      NaZa

Thanks! I read somewhere Heretic had like 64 but I think that was pre-release.

    3. ETTiNGRiNDER

      ETTiNGRiNDER

      Chocolate Heretic isn't limit-removing, though.

Doomsday, however, is unless I'm mistaken.  Also I think Doom Legacy can support Heretic as well.

There was also WHeretic but that's old and IIRC, buggy.  And Vavoom which was a total mess and dead now.

So basically, ZDoom(-based) or Doomsday are your most viable options for limit-removing.

There was just a thread asking this same question recently. Wherever it is, Grain of Salt posted a link to crispy doom 1.5 which contains a build of crispy heretic.
