Just wondering is there anyone else who is not getting the midi replacements? When I was watching Lingyan203's playthrough on youtube , it had the replacement music. But when I am playing there is just the standard episode 4 music playing. Anyone know why?

The DooMed Speed Demos Archive returns!

Just a quick question. When recording my demos I normally have mouselook enabled, is this ok? Normally mouse look does not benefit me much but I am unable to play with keyboard controls only. If this is OK then please let me know, thanks.

Turns out that it was not a secret but it looked like one :( But I did find the real final secret which was the rad suit in the plasma gun side area.

Ok right catching up! E4M1: The Lost Bastion This was a crazy start! When I got in I expected some peace for the first couple of seconds but no not at all. There were quite a few barons for the first level and I had no idea how to get the rocket launcher. However once I learnt the map it was all OK.Only 50% secrets but meh. E4M2: Putrefied Docks The cyberdemon makes an early entrance which threw me off-guard and so resulting in death at first. But once I knew that you could telefrag him my worries wafted away. Very cramped fighting indoors but fun nonetheless. Then spent ages searching for secret exit :p E4M9: Thy Mappeth Faileth Couldn't agree more! I thankfully like to storm in to things so this level was not to bad. The cyberdemon's rockets are always hot on your heels. The secrets were not too hard to find. Really like the little hidden switch to get the mega armor. Fast pace run and gun just as I like it :). E4M3: The Ravine Of The Damned A interesting map with two sides of a ravine (hence the title). Some nasty spring traps which always get me though I can see them coming. The cacos always get in my way and then proceed to chew my face off while I get my arse toasted by the imps on the other side of the ravine. There is one secret that I just don't know how to get! The first part opened then the second half didn't,what a massive troll. Anyone know how to get it? On the whole so far it has not been a easy episode by no means but as I am sure everyone is well aware nor was Thy flesh consumed.

I don't mind doing Plutonia 2 or Doom 2 reloaded as I have played some of them but base ganymede I know much about at all. I will post some stuff about Draft Excluder tommorow once I complete E4M3 so I can write about maps 1 through 3 all at once(and 9 :p)
  7. I would say revenants and archviles. Revenants kill me all the time because their rockets are complete BS. It will do intricate shots just to troll me. They also are annoying while fighting other enemies Archviles kill me because they can attack from any point on the map. It is hard to find somewhere to hide while fighting the rest of the monsters. Also unrelated but resurrection is also ridiculous. Oh yeah and the mastermind also kills me all the time because of their accuracy even across a giant map. Unlike the cyberdemon it is very hard to avoid their fire and I have to resort to peek-a-boo shooting. This often gets me killed by other monsters.

    What are you playing now?

I am currently playing Doom 2 in name only,CC4,Doom 2 reloaded, whispers of satan and doom 2 the way id did it. So a lot going at the moment but I will get through it all then hopefully find another megawad.

  11. I am using Gzdoom builder(after moving off doom builder 2). The door making tool shift-D, creates a door but it doesn't set it up properly. It makes the door but does not set it as a press use door and does not make it repeatable. Does anyone know how to fix this? Or should I go back to Doom builder 2?

Gzdoom builder: auto door maker not working properly

hexen and udmf don't work. I don't usually do maps in doom format.
  13. After playing a awesome WAD, I always think to myself "I could definitely make a map like that, I am sure it's not to hard. Just a simple map". I then sit down to make the map, this is where it all falls to pieces. I have absolutely no idea where to start and can't think what specific things actually have to be in the map. Even if I do get going, I find myself making shitty square rooms maps(series of rooms connected by just plain corridors, very linear design). I know that I will never be as good at mapping as some but I would still like to be decent. I would greatly appreciate if you guys would give me some tips on what makes a good map for you. Thanks Driftyloon

Agreed, I think that it was what made me stop playing doom 2 for about week(when I was about 10). It was very different music,as you said, with a very atmospheric tone to it. However it does get kind of irritating after a while but you don't listen to it for long so that's OK.

    Rank the D1/D2 Tracks!

Can someone tell me why everyone seems to hate map23's music. I thought that it was awesome and one of my favourites. The song that it is based off is also brilliant.

Map making: what do you actually need/want ?

Cheers guys, replies have been very helpful so far keep em coming :)

    Brutal Half-life

You took it the wrong way. I what I actually mean is that brutal doom was original but this is something that just copied what sgt mark did and just puts it into half life. I am not saying that they have not changed the game but moreover the concept. I agree that people should not be so hostile towards brutal doom. I myself play it quite often and enjoy it. This is the same arguement as five nights at freddy's, there are some rip offs which are ok but it only works once.

Do you remember the colors of locked doors?

Normally I remember where the locked door I need is except when it is a exceptionally large map. The thing that irritates me is in some Wads where they don't mark the doors! Therefore I have to look at the automap instead of the door. Also maps with keys in strangest of places :(

    Brutal Half-life

The first time with brutal doom that was OK but this is just unnecessary! Brutal hexen and brutal doom both added a lot more, but this doesn't look that much different.

    Favorite MAP01

I agree that Map01 in Alien Vendetta is awesome and so is TNT's. I think that Doom 64's staging area was atmospheric and set the game in motion.

    whats your mapping process.

Although I myself find map-making hard, I have landed upon a strategy. Start by making the map just rooms with no fancy texturing. Then once you have a working map, add doors and mechanics. After this add monsters. Finally add the lighting textures and other cool stuff :) Hopefully this will work for you as I hope it will work for me. I wish to release at least one map in my life.

    How do cacodemons fly?

The 'arsehole theory' might not be too far off the mark. If you turn to frame HEADA5 in your doom wads, you can clearly see two holes. Although a bit far to call them arseholes, they are for gaseous discharge. The hissing noise is them sucking in air to rise. I am assuming that they have some sort of system to store the air, this enables them to float. They then expel out the back to move them forwards. I have never seen one go backwards(except when you unload a shotgun blast to their face). Make any sense? Or just a load of garbage :(
