  1. The weapons are all situational. Certain combos (primarily a ranged hard-hitter like static, vortex or rocket with the SSG for close range) do have more of a definitive edge, but a Plasma Rifle can potentially shred someone just like a Lightning Gun or the Heavy Assault Rifle, depending on how they react and how much damage (or boosted health and armor) you catch them at. I wouldn't say the rapid weapons absolutely suck, but they're better for picking off someone you blasted with the SSG or are already weakened, rather than trying to mow down someone who's currently built up their endurance.

    Lack of Hitscan Enemies?

For one thing it sounds like you take more damage than the original, or rather higher difficulties will make you much more vulnerable to death if you get caught off-guard. Since the devs wanted to emphasize the design choice of 'you'll die if you stop moving', and no hitscan is the most balanced way of keeping a game from getting bullshit, it definitely seems like they basically want to make the player capable of avoiding most of the stuff sent their way, just with a good amount of challenge in the process.

    Multiplayer needs music(Quake 3 style)

All you hear is gunfire, explosions, the Demon, and maybe landing sounds. So if I bother with the multiplayer at length i'll probably just put some Doom music in a Steam Music list and have it rocking out while playing.

The Real "Minimum Requirements" for the beta

If this beta is indicative of the final product with 'low' settings, then I just don't know what to think considering it doesn't seem like that big a leap from IdTech 5. I think it's PBR if I remember right, and there's reflections and more dynamic lighting, but as it stands the sheer performance issues shouldn't be this extreme for what seems like marginal changes. Although the fact that the whole screen looks like it's covered in vaseline due to an unremovable anti-aliasing doesn't help. Also for once, this seems to be one of the only things i've played where playing the game in 1280x720 windowed instead of 1920x1080 fullscreen makes the performance even worse.

Doom Welcome To Hell E3 music

And here's a compilation of the music from the trailers. Apparently these are leftovers in the beta assets. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4_FcybvR6rA

    Gunplay is fucking amazing

by that logic either the Static Cannon or the Vortex Rifle needs to go, because while I don't have a way of knowing the damage variable comparison it sounds like the Static just isn't as capable as the Vortex since it doesn't do enough damage fully-charged to justify the slow movement charge per shot versus the Vortex's charge method when scoped yet being able to fire more consistently.

    Gunplay is fucking amazing

It seems to encourage the Halo-style of weapon combos, except even more so since all the weapons have different combat roles to utilize. So a Rocket Launcher to pelt someone from afar followed by a Super Shotgun up close is a real terror, or using the Static Cannon or Vortex Rifle to deal with long-range damage if you've got the accuracy for it before dominating with rapid fire up close from a Plasma Rifle that can batter the floor with heat to deal out area of denial. It's even more pronounced as well due to the really quick weapon switch, so you can fire with the SSG and then swap to the HMG, spray a bit, swap right back to SSG and fire again.

    DOOM Closed Beta Help Thread

Give it time to operate. It's basically doing a gigantic friggin' preload and initial setup, it freezes for pretty much everyone.

The Real "Minimum Requirements" for the beta

Well, I could play TNO pretty damn fine at fullscreen, 1080p with my rig. Albeit I didn't turn everything absolutely up, but the main settings were at full, just not the shadows or the really demanding stuff. This beta on the other hand basically won't connect to any server, takes forever to load, and apparently has slow-motion on the menu. Running a 2.66GHz intel core 2 quad Q9400, 4GB RAM, and GTX560 Nvidia. I know I really need to upgrade my PC but I may not be able to play the final version if the game is this bad in optimization at release.

DOOM - Fight Like Hell Cinematic Trailer

If anything I wish there was more to the trailer. Feels like it's over too fast, although it does get the point across clearly.

DOOM - Fight Like Hell Cinematic Trailer

That some people are incredibly picky about everything? The music isn't quite the type of metal i'd associate with Doom, but it works at least. At the very least, everyone who played Tony Hawk's Underground over a decade ago can easily recognize the song, and it kind of feels like the music was chosen as an attempt to appeal towards those in their 20's/30's.

No signs of Spider Mastermind for Doom 2016 yet?

This whole topic is a potential spoiler mine for those who don't want to be spoiled, but, well, I don't know how to operate the spoiler tags if there are even any here, so i'll just space this out instead. Though to be honest, if two enemy types are what's keeping you from buying a game altogether, then you're a very fickle person about this stuff.

Why do people keep comparing this game to Halo?

Besides being first-person-shooters I don't even know how you can remotely compare the gameplay of classic Doom and Halo. They're entirely different styles of shooters, period. Plus Doom never, ever had any ringworld stuff. Just two moons of Mars along with the planet itself depending on the game, Earth and Hell. The closest between the series back then was just Master Chief being a little obviously inspired in design.

    DAY OF DOOM(TM) MARCH 29TH!!!!!!

But Doom 3 released during a more experimental time where just the lighting alone got it acclaim, and for years people decried it because it wasn't the Doom they knew. I mean, hell, 2004 had Resident Evil 4, Half-Life 2, and Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas, a large variety where the most direct competition was another singleplayer-oriented PC shooter. Doom '16 is up against stiff competition in a market saturated with both triple-A and indie shooters that either have more casual buyer appeal or do an arena shooter better than Doom does.

Why do people keep comparing this game to Halo?

Some don't mind Reach besides the armor abilities, but yeah, the classic Halos are the most appreciated games for a reason, which was also why the godawful launch state for the Master Chief Collection was so controversial among the fans. Some will tell you that Halo 5's gameplay is some of the best in the series, but the lack of modes and various problems (including a godawful storyline in the campaign, with its level design going to shit towards the end) bog the game down.

Why do people keep comparing this game to Halo?

Right, I keep forgetting that forward movement is classified as a 'sprint' in the code and any other movement is just sluggish in comparison. You'd think they'd of realized that's a problem, but I guess not.

Why do people keep comparing this game to Halo?

It's mostly because the multiplayer of this game was outsourced to Creative Affinity, who have had their hand with not only making maps for Halo and Call of Duty alike, but also created/co-designed the multiplayer for some of those games as well. To that degree, the multiplayer falls into a modern trap of only being able to carry two weapons at once with a custom loadout system, something highly resembling of Call of Duty games in general and Halo 4 in particular. It also has speeds comparable to the fastest of the Halo games, although the intensity is dialed up a few notches due to more variety in weapon types firing all over the place and no regenerating health or armor. Hopefully those who actually get used to the game are going to be using their mobility and environment a lot more, compared to right now where people will spot someone and either run right at them or strafe in place a little bit. And before you say, "But there's power weapons and power-ups on the map, surely that's more like Quake," Halo also has always done that (besides, again, Halo 4 as it was an odd one out), it's just Halo 5 in particular tells you about it now like this game does. Halo 5 also happened to bring ledge clambering into play, around the same time games like Call of Duty Advanced Warfare brought double-jumps when Doom was only initially announced in 2014 for real, so even what Doom is trying to do isn't very original outside of the Demon Rune power-up. There's also the fact that the multiplayer Marines look like SPARTAN knockoffs, unapologetically so. I'm not trying to start a massive argument or shitstorm, i'm basically just listing off a lot of reasons why people would compare the two series. Although goddamn, the sheer amount of people calling Halo shit when several of you outright demonstrate you've barely played them makes me wonder why you're vehemently responding with hostility about the subject in the first place. And because of numerous circumstances (including Halo 5 having the largest launch of its entire franchise), I doubt this modern Doom would even outsell Halo 5, so there's no need to be cocksure about it all either.

    DAY OF DOOM(TM) MARCH 29TH!!!!!!

So wait, usually i'm ontop of info about Doom 4 but someone I know mentioned the game looks great for couch play and I realized There's not been any talk whatsoever of splitscreen for this game, has there?

    DAY OF DOOM(TM) MARCH 29TH!!!!!!

Yeah, nah. If someone has Halo 5 and an Xbox One in the first place and are dedicated to it, Doom isn't going to pull them away from their systems any time soon. I doubt Doom will even trump any major games this year, although i'd like to be pleasantly surprised. Not this Doom. It's designed with consoles in mind first, the PC isn't an afterthought but it isn't the primary focus.

    DAY OF DOOM(TM) MARCH 29TH!!!!!!

No wonder. They've got a lot of work in Halo and Call of Duty, to the point of creating/co-developing multiplayer for World at War and Ghosts, as well as Halo 4 and 1 Anniversary, with maps made for the other games they were involved in. It shows, too; the maps do look well-designed, but the gameplay for multiplayer seems like it's lagged behind the singleplayer features and design a lot with its derivative stylings. Guess that's the consequence of outsourcing multiplayer to focus on the rest of the game.

    DAY OF DOOM(TM) MARCH 29TH!!!!!!

The singleplayer and snapmaps really do steal the show, because the normal multiplayer looks unremarkable in terms of normal gameplay. Things like freeze tag may be amusing for a bit but most people will probably migrate to Domination and Team Deathmatch, and honestly i'll probably forego that crap myself and stick to Snapmap multiplayer.

    DAY OF DOOM(TM) MARCH 29TH!!!!!!

Seems they're going to play the same three multiplayer trailers over and over with an intermission between the replays. Someone needs to record the music on the intermission.

    Secret levels

At the very least if there isn't an E1M1 reference or homage i'll be sad. But going beyond the 'gotta have the reference that everything references' would be cool.
