    re: development

     

    I would like to thank you all for your time and patience regarding surrender the dead, I of course realize it has been quite a long time since I've posted any updates for anything and for this I apologize and hope to move forward amicably in the future.

     

    This post is regarding the most recent updates in my life and consequently my games; at last, at so very long last, I have a Windows 7 PC that is usable! and because I have said PC I can resume game design! once again I apologize for the lengthy delay I am looking forward to posting new content for all of you very soon

  5. Hey guys! Great news, I finally got doom builder on my win 98 pc so I'm back to making levels!

I have had the worst luck with computers lately. first my Windows 98 PC then my Pentium 4. now I have a Windows 98 built which seemingly is going to finally give me a break...so I did install  Eureka and deutex and so far I have managed to make a very simple map but Eureka requires special dlls and deutex is very old and doesn't really allow me to make maps?

     so maybe I can find the files needed to run eureka and test Doom Builder on my computer it's running an AMD Athlon XP which imagine is enough but time will tell

     

    Update:

     

    Downloaded a million programs like wad author and deeper since doom builder won't work on 98. Here's hoping!

    Anyway here's my Pentium four

    Built it from scratch. Cleaned out all  the parts, I'm so close to being ready. First thing Imma do is map in doombuilder for a few hours.

     

     

    Current specs:
    Cd & dvd rom drives
    500 gb ssd
    160 gb hdd
    Ati Radeon??? Video card *
    Soundblaster live sound card
    200 w power supply *
    Pentium 4 cpu*

    No os as of yet 

    * = weak parts, will upgrade when I can

  8. Ok I got a working pc back. It's ancient, but I can do editing and stuff on it, so I'm excited for that.

     

    Got a couple more I wanna fix up asap but until I find work this is the best I got.

     

    System specs:

    Windows 98

     

    608 mb hdd (will pair with 2nd hdd)

     

    128 mb ram (upgradable)

     

    3dfx video card

     

    And k6-2 380 mhz cpu

     

    Creative labs sound blaster sound card

     

    Next build will have a Pentium 4.

    I know it's a dinosaur but considering I've been trying to work off an old 386 pc, yeah this is a huge step forward. Anyway, glad to be back on the scene! I Look forward to making some maps and sprites!

  10. I'm trying to make a map, but it seems like nothing is hitting the right chord. Maybe I'll just try to make something fun? Something cool? All the texture packs I have are so bland. Can anyone recommend a good pack to get the imagination going?

      If anything honestly, I would recommend limiting yourself to the original IWAD textures and then picking a few things that either might work well together, or might not! Then, see what you can do with those. Limitation breeds creativity, as they say, and an expansive texture pack may end up overwhelming you if you're already struggling.

      It's true but the problem is that I have been using the default textures mostly until this point. 

       

      My issue is that I have a very specific design I want and  when I want to see it the textures don't match and I forget what I wanted

  11. Hey guys,  sorry it's been so long. 

    I've been focusing on my mental health a lot lately, forcing myself to take breaks before I burn out.

     

    With that having been said, I've been plying trail blazer, and for a mod I didn't like much at first, holy cow it really grew on me. It's baisiclly my go-to weapons mod at this point.

     

    Everything about it just feels perfect. And the upgrading/crafting mechanics? Inspired! This mod is everything I aspire to do in my mod. To make the weapons so perfect and so satisfying that you can almost feel your enemies dying breath as you blast emaway with the flesh renderer. Then,just when you think it can't get better, omg upgrades?!? Buildable perks?!?!

    This mod just hits the spot, and if you're looking for a hell of a good time I recommend trailbazer+mps of choas.

     

    Unrelated: I found an old flash drive which contains the sum of my doom knowledge from when I last missed

     

    With the hottest new copy of xwe,yikes.

Okay up to this point I have been trying to draw sprites and models price and just thinking modeling would be the easiest but I'm having a hard time I have blender and blender is a good program but it's very complicated and right now I'm not a fan of complicated. things are actually going kind of rough in my life right now but they have to get better, that's why I'm looking for another program I may actually put up a post later on today. about that I have a thought and now it's gone...I know you guys would say I don't owe you anything but I want to make something good know matter what it takes. so hopefully I'll have a demo ready soon or something the voxels are pretty easy to make and I am sorry about the lack of punctuation and whatnot but actually I'm away somewhere so this is a voice post

  14. alright im back! sorry for the lack of posts, ive been splitting my attention between surrender the dead and another game of mine. 

     

    ANYWAY! here's what ive been up to: voxels!

    gonna make me some voxels and try them out for that A E S T E H I C

     

    (see pic for first attempt and testing mirroring)

     

    now if the voxels dont end up looking like i want them to, ill; try smoothing them out in blender and making better models that way. again, if all else fails, ill sprite them by hand but i want to do it this way mostly bc

    i wanna get better @ 3d modeling as well as save myself some headache.

     

    so, what's to be made? glad you asked...

     

    -candy jar

    -broken candy jar

     

    -beverage dispensers

     

    -floor tiles(for bumpmapping purposes)

     

    -doors

    -barred doors

    -don't dead, open inside

     

    -weapons

    -(speaking of) will be adding/tweaking more weapons than the three i had planned. they dopnt balance out well

    by themselves.

     

    -appliances, such as microwaves, stoves, light switches etc.

     

    -outlets, doors, etc

     

     

    this part may take some time bc i need to plan which are to be recycled in one form or another.

    but basically, as previously stated, im re working everything, really. but some areas  had planned for levels will be used for small cut scenes (think ES: Oblivion)

    and yeah! that's about all i have so far. the good news is that bc the voxel program im using is so easy, it should not take too long to show real progress.

  15. Just tried the art program Keira for the first time and ever and it's pretty great!

    Imma experiment with it more then try out paint tools sai.

    But as far as gimp for my main photo editor, forget it.

    turns out aserite does reallly well with my tablet, so imma have to practice drawing again. i started with this, its supposed to say "turn off the lights you heathens"

  17. so i just uploaded what i expect the beginning of the game to be like, call it spoilers or whatever. this is hard for me to type as my monitor has moved far away from me. things are always so complicated, perhaps i should say nothing? im feeling particularly poetic tonight....

     

    ladies and gentlemen of the forums, i have resumed my work. i will be uploading new content shortly.

    i have also deiced to make the game in bite sized chapters, instead of all at once. 

     

    everything is new, everything is better. no longer just a boring zombie game.

     

    something better.

  19. i see since ive been off line ive gained two new followers. what are you trying to me, doomworld?

     

    anyway being serious, im finally ready to resume work on surrender the dead however, and I'm sure you're sick of hearing this but I'm giving the game a re-haul. 

    gotta be honest after my little "stint"in game design  in  a completely foreign game engine i finally realized reality and fun don't generally mesh. so the focus here will be fun with environmental story telling im also gonna re balance the weapons possibly leaving what i got now but very likely, i think, is that ill be adding a new spread of four weapons that will balance the gameplay. (exluding of course, the p90)

     

    im doing the level themes as well since what i have in mind is actually reeally hard to make fun (a mall) 

    maybe ill make like a section later, like idk a flashback or something? but that kind goes against environmental story telling...anyway ill figure something out. for now im more focused on re-hauling the game back to it's core elements. a pissed off guy, who made some bad decisions. mundane, i know, but what isn't at this point

     

    if i were to try something different it would be too over the top, like robot sharks or tree monsters, angry grandma's(:p) 

     

     

    but yeah i know i say this alot too but im gonna make a new map pack that focuses on what i think makes doom so damn special along with a quake touch to it. (that would be roofs with ledges, rubble on the ground,ooh, and maybe some dusk influence like the lush forest areas near the mines in epi 1)

     

    so yeah, alot to do, but ill find time somehow. ive been deeply itching to get back into this which is really what i was waiting  for. sprite designing, level making, lighting all that good stuff.

     

    wow this has been a long ramble, sorry about that. but anyway im getting back to it is the point, imma try to post screenies asap.

  22. okay, so during my down time at work, ive been drawing maps. so far, this is the full result. alot more work to be done but im proud of the progress ive made here

  23. so as it turns out WOW doom is SUPER hard on ultra violence and forces me to TOTALLY CHANGE my play style!

     

    i welcome this new, unexpected challenge, as ultra-violence was always easy for me.

    with that having been said, i started playing Bdoom v21 on ultra realism mode with rifle and have been trying to get good. i think it will show, given time. until then, something to work for!

    and will be doing more map stuffs soon.

  24. you would think of all people to re-ignite my passion for making DOOM maps, vine sauce Joel would be the last one. but as it turns out, he helped me have fun doing this again.

  25. a short post:

     

    for me, one of the most satisfying parts of DOOM (other than one shotting imps with a shotgun) was exploring the map and seeing where everything goes. and at this point i can legitimately run thorough the maps in my sleep. with that having been said,I have decided to try for the Ultimate DOOM speedrun record. I realize at this point it is more or less unbeatable, but that's part of the fun. my plans are to practice (alot) then speedrun in vanilla doom, and then brutal doom for the fastest possible time i can.

     

    what brought this on was that i was playing and i realized how slow the player was, which was why i always used brutal doom (until v.21 >:(   )

    i decided to try and got pretty far pretty quick, impressing even myself with the haste and accuracy of shots fired.

     

    ill record some tries, and upload them to my channel. which will then be copied here. ideally, it will include me breaking the record.
