Now let me tell you about one really bad water level, "Underwater" in: Chaser (Windows, Shooter 3D, 2003)

Unrelated to the topic but thanks for recommending me another classic. At first I confused this with Gore: Ultimate Soldier for some reason lol.

It's indeed been over a year. Time sure flies. I have to admit that I haven't worked on the source port since. That's mainly due to RL stuff, but also because I wanted to dive into some side projects. I'm currently looking into improving the Catacomb related articles on Wikipedia.

It's definitly possible to add support for the P.D. mods in the future, and I think it would be fun to have it included. It's on my todo list for when I resume work on the source port.

All okay. Same goes for me and everyone else here, in fact. Just take your time.

While we're at it, would you consider adding an option to allow the Catacombs Trilogy to playback the unused Too Hot music file in the game data? Y'know, it's kinda lonely without in-game music there, even if it's a 16-second song with a repeated 8 bar in its entirety (lol).

    • Less of a gameplay and more of a map/engine featur, but re-add slopes. Carmack pulled it off on the Raven engine (even if somewhat limited), why not Doom engine?
    • Keep at least one Hellish weapon. Dark claw or Unmaker, it doesn't matter to me.
    • Put revenant, arch-vile, and/or mancubus in the first game/Ultimate Doom.
    • Make chaingunner firing sound use the pistol sound.
    • Give lost souls the ability to resurrect a single monster nearby them (even monster corpse decorations), at the expense of their own life.
    • Reduce the plasma rifle firing rate so as to make them less noisy and ammo-consuming.
    • Make the fist actually silent so that the player can play more stealthily a la Doom Bible.

  3. I don't remember if I've said this one before, but... Serious Sam 2.

People hate the cartoonish direction it takes, and the fact that it isn't related to TFE/TSE in term of story. The thing is, I actually dig the Sunday morning cartoon-like direction because you don't get to have that on your FPS game everyday. As for story, well, the same can be said with any other Serious Sam game since TSE. Sure, it has mostly positive reviews out there, but it's how Serious Sam fans look at it that still bothers me to this very day.

I got somewhat glued to the game when for a brief while our (wired) cable provider carried the Willow channel. I watched a bunch of T20I and Test matches. Started following the Australian "Big Bash League" for a while, and got hooked on the Melbourne Stars. Then came the day when Willow went away, and I was no longer able to follow any form of cricket at all. Sigh. That was several years ago. I'm now on YouTubeTV, and I don't see Willow showing up on the basic package anytime soon.

However, all is not lost. Cricket has come to the Dallas/Ft. Worth area, where I live, and major league cricket at that. We'll see if it spreads.

Seeing Lee Jackson get interested in cricket was not what I expected, but it's a pleasant surprise, I must say! I guess you're all in for Texas Super Kings?

  5. Love what I played so far (saved at MAP03 for later). On HMP, ammo placement feels generous, if a bit too abundant, but that's no problem for me as I played this on Delta Touch (in fact, I thank you for that lol). I wish there were more secrets and they were assigned as such, though. MIDI choice also comes across as slightly questionable to me. Otherwise, not too shabby for a short miniwad.

As far as the bosses go, taufan's Spiderdemon made things a bit complicated. The Cyberdemon and Spiderdemon have had their thing IDs switched, meaning E3M8 ends when all Cybies are dead, and E2M8 ends when all Spiders are dead. Because taufan's map has a Spiderdemon but isn't supposed to end when it dies, the map can't be E2M8, and therefore the Spiderdemon can't be E2's boss. From there, I concluded the logical progression could be E1: Spider, E2: Cyberdemon, E3: two Cyberdemons. The dehacked patch also adds KeenDie to both of their actions, so we can use them as bosses anywhere and instead of it ending the level, it simply opens a door.

You may replace the spiderdemon on my Andhakupa map with several barons, but I think that would make the fight cheaper to an extent, as it increases the chance of monster infighting that would affect the arena fight.

On the other side, I like the use of KeenDie to add such functionality. Does that mean another revision is necessary on my end? As well, the collaborative map between @eanasir and me is slowly but surely building up.

Carnal Forge is amazing. I was absolutely blown away by this level. I love how you took the shooting SKINSYMB gimmick and built it into the whole level organically - that was a ton of fun. The level currently crashes in Chocolate, because there is an unknown texture on Linedef 537, 538, and 539, and because you exceed the scrolling texture limit. . . by a lot. You're only allowed 64 scrolling lines but you have 154. There's also a lot of tutti-frutti errors, especially in the crate area, but I also noticed some on lines 501 and 570.

If you want to check further errors without crashes, you might want to use the new CRL/Chocorenderlimits by Julia Nechaevskaya, a continuation of RestlessRodent's original Chocorenderlimits.

This is the first time I have seen an image of this game and boy does it look wild. Not a fan of this style of aesthetics, but probably worth for someone looking for a bizarre game.

And the gameplay is even moreso. Calling it "Hitman/Splinter Cell/etc. on crack" is accurate, but won't exactly convince its madness. It's one of those things you need to watch by yourself to truly believe.

I feel some of the new-retro fps games nail the style better than others. Zortch is the best example that comes to my mind when it comes to games most accurately emulating the visual and gameplay style of 90s. It feels like a lost fps game from 1997/1998.

Agree with the Zortch one. Its price feels like a steal while other lesser games are sold at a higher price. I wish its map editor was more intuitive and documented, though, but I guess it's just me.

  8. I don't play modern games less because I dislike them and more because I lack the proper resources (heck, even the likes of GZDoom stutter in my potato of a laptop). That being said, you might want to consider watching a few video essays on "how to enjoy video games again" and see which of these might be the most suitable for your own case, while also looking out for gameplay videos/trying out game demos to find out whether you want to buy and play a game or not (if there's any).

STOP POSTING ABOUT WEEZER! IM TIRED OF SEEING IT!
MY FRIENDS ON TIKTOK SEND ME MEMES, ON DISCORD ITS F**KING MEMES!

Pork and Beans is good tho. I remember my first sibling loved it back in 2009, and the MV throws us back to when internet memes were still at its infancy and "dead memes" was a non-existent term.

    Spoiler
