    Your Vision of Hell?

    I started with a simple concept of Hell. Earth is the realm of law, Hell is the realm of chaos. In fact, its so chaotic it's split into several realms, which demons ruling over each one. Captured souls and the size of the realm determine the power of the ruling demon. Oftentimes areas are outright stolen from Earth to serve as part of a realm, changed to the demon's liking. The more powerful ones are able to create places from scratch. The evil Hell we know is merely one of the realms of Hell, though one of the largest and most infamously sadistic, the ruling demon of Hell enjoys torturing his captured souls and enslaving them into his abomination army. Infighting occurs often, deception is commonplace. He has subjugated other demons before him. The warping of things that came from Earth is an effect of the demons corrupting them with chaos. A ship that goes to hell and back, for instance, would seem have a mind of its own, i.e. Event Horizon, due to a demon warping its own realm's realities into the ship. Things don't often make sense in the dimensions of chaos, but it works. And the people who live in them thrive off the chaos. The madness of some people induced by hell? Part of it is a PTSD, part of it is the brain going insane, but sometimes its the people giving in to the chaos, to become and embody chaos themselves. In some realms people are being tormented, but in others that's simply how they live their lives. Chaotic. This isn't what I really believe, but this is what I imagine hell as when I write my stories.

  6. Doomguy abuses the shit out of his weapons from the insane amount of bullets, shells, and rockets he fires. I bet he spends his free time trying to clean and maintain them, or at least find a spare pistol somewhere. Or a cleaning kit.
  7. I feel more embarrassed each time I upload an updated version of my small map. Like these are the kind of things I should have caught on a long time ago and fixed in only like 4 versions. An adjcacent sector mistakenly had the same sector tag so they both opened. -Proper aligned textures for the courtyard and by the exit door. -Fixed a ceiling texture that displayed the default ceiling.

    Hitscanning. At this point we'd use superfast projectiles.

    In Halo, I make it my duty to make sure every single marine stays alive. Every single one. Similar scenarios in stuff like Brutal Doom, and even a couple of the Call of Duty games (yeah I play the COD campaigns, come at me)

  14. Couldn't you just have a super low ceiling that enemies can technically see through but cant attack through? Like a pixel or two in height, add a midtex to complete the look?

  16. I use a shitton of octagons in my levels just so I avoid using orthagonal rooms. That's how I know the level is mine.

    Started off as a joke in class where we had to write our names on our desk for our teacher to keep track of us. I wrote Royal Sir Masterton in the hopes she would call me that. XD

    RE: Mapping Tips, Please Critique.

    The detailing is relatively fine. You could proportion that desk better though. Needs a better sense of gameplay flow. Right now its mostly clear this room, move on, clear this room. The larger rooms and the ones with the outside enemies attacking you felt more fun. The last area had a flow, I think, and better variation in height. Do more rooms like that. Less doors generally means more flow. Change up the floor and ceiling textures sometimes, instead of that wood all the time. More dynamic places that you revisit, like a monster closet or something would be great for where the blue key door was. Basically, do what you did beyond the blue key door, that was the strongest part of the map. The beginning was alright, because it genuinely felt like a beginning. Stuck monsters outside. Give them more space to walk around. I'm not one of those people, but some will complain that they can't reach 100% on the level because they couldnt get every item, namely the ammo outside the building. I'd recommend making the outside accessibile via secret or something, letting the player have a playable contrast to the formal interior helps shakes things up. I did like what you did with the windows, you can do more with an enterable outside at those parts as well. Work on shapes that arent just glorified square rooms. Even though I did like the main hub room, though, again, you could have offered more gameplay there via repopulation or something.

  20. Gotta nice central concept but I worry it may take up too much of the space to be effective for this sort of project. Gonna toy around with it more.

    That dude's stuff has gotten better in quality over the years actually. His remastered versions of his songs are worth checking out... though I personally believe his strong suit is his more original content.

    Boom: Multi-Level Walkway Help

    Map 16 of 1024 Claustrophobia is one of my all-time favorite Doom maps, a kind of map I aspire to. There's this little quirk about the map: some kind of multi-level sectors. From what I can tell, there are sectors within the sectors (somehow) that raise and lower invisible floors dependeing on whether the player is on the bottom floor or top floor, to make sure the walkway works. What puzzles me is how to recreate this effect. I'm stumped. Can anyone help me?

    I used to keep getting issues with my maps gameplay wise (still kinda do), because I'd learn they play the map much differently than me. Now I send every playtest map to my brother via dropbox for him to try before releasing.
