In Star Trek, Scotty's original name was "Scotchy"... but the studio balked at so obvious a reference.

In weak tribute Steven Colbert, these types of monopolies shall henceforth be referred to as "monalmostopolies". ;p

Okay.. lmao. Totally hadn't thought about bugs, but yeah... hard to imagine a "perfect" system. But maybe that's where quantum-computing will take us? Maybe a QC system could run a sim of the sim... and only run the final result when found to be bug free. Such could be the use of QC. /dreams

Why does mapping for Unreal engine suck so hard?
Godling replied to hardcore_gamer's topic in Everything Else
Really? Six brushes? You sure it's not like Unreal where you get 6 planes? Because if it's not, then it's not CSG... it's just an automated tool for making rooms with brushes. /just_curious -
/devil's_advocate And you determined this how? This presumes there are zero exceptions to "cause and effect".

Couldn't find a screen... so linking a walk-through vid. It's in the first few seconds anyway... player looks left and right... 1 brazier on each side. -
I've watched a few different WWD shows including the movie, but never have I heard/seen mention of dinosaurs living alongside humans. So yeah, maybe someone is thinking of some other series?

If the rooms in SnapMap could be thought of as nodes, we need a node editor for sure. Maybe if Doom sells well and is SnapMap is popular, we'll see more tools? -
Why does mapping for Unreal engine suck so hard?

Current method is to use models for detailing an environment... while Quake uses simple brushes for pretty much everything. About the only model (obviously excluding monsters, items, etc.) used in Quake is the animated flames for the wall-sconces. Quake's start map is a simple example... today, those braziers would probably be built in 3DSMax, or Softimage, or Maya, etc... and that would allow them to be more detailed (generally) than the surrounding environment. You then load those brazier models into the level editor, as opposed to building them directly there, and you place them the same way you place monsters or items. The actual level brushes placed with Unreal use CSG, or "Constructive Solid Geometry. It's a weird way of doing things if you only know Doom or Quake editing. Unreal's CSG is usually just for defining the world limits... floors, walls and other gross geography, while detail comes from imported models built in other programs. -
Without context you can't build sentence structure without know what your responding to. As an example, ask yourself what would have to be said to you to spur such a response? Did someone ask if you're a cop? The answer should be "no"... not " I'm not a cop." The latter is redundant.

Why comparing an almost 20 year old game to current gen Unreal? Also pretty sure your story about making brushes is user error. Have you even done any tutorials? I have. Never encountered trouble making any size brush (snap to grid etc.). Not to say you can't also do brush size stuff manually... but not required... afaik... been a few years. -
I don't get it. 3 quotes and no comment make it hard to decipher your aim with just a laughing gif. /curious

New Star Wars: The Force Awakens trailer (spoiler predictions)
Godling replied to Cupboard's topic in Everything Else
Someone mashed up all the trailer footage into one long new trailer... and I gotta say... this mash-up finally made me feel the magic... lol. Still... I'm looking forward to it more now. Star Wars: The Force Awakens supercut trailer combines every scrap of footage into one place Edit: Okay, seriously... I've already watched this more times than the full trailer... so awesome. Sets a much better tone. -
Gotta say, I was disappoointed when it first came out. Also gotta say, whenever it's on cable I put it on. Something comforting about it... something soul-foody about it. Maybe it's just cuz of the Rock and Urban... I dunno, but it's fun to watch really casually.
