Kingdom Hearts. Ugh this one hurts cause when I first played the first game it was probably the first video game where I thought there was nothing quite like it. When I first got the first game I played it for hours and apparently got my younger sister so upset that I wasn’t letting her have a turn. Chain of Memories was a neat way to make a semi remake/ sequel and then Kingdom Hearts 2 came out which blew the original out of the water. I loved 2 so much that I finished it in a few days (unlike 1 which I still haven’t beat). Then came the DS and psp game which were both…fine. Nothing groundbreaking, but then the mobile game came out and this is where I started to get nervous. Then 3 came out and after years of waiting it…did NOT live up to my expectations. It felt like Disney had more creative control over it than Square Enix did. And I finished 3 and I felt absolutely nothing. I was happy I finished it, but I got way more questions then I did answers out of it. Then Melody of Memory came out and that was where I realized what Kingdom hearts was becoming. A cashgrab. It added nothing to the story except for a cutscene at the end of the game that leads into Kingdom Hearts 4. I became so frustrated that my favorite game had lost all the heart just so they could make a quick buck. In all honesty I probably will play 4, but the previews aren’t exciting me too much and that speaks volume considering how exciting 3 looked.

I don’t know if this one can count, but DMC: Devil May Cry!! I remembered people shitting on the game from the moment the trailer first came out. Hell I remembered a lot of the video reactions from fans of the original. Now at the time I wasn’t really a fan of Devil May Cry so I just looked at it as a weird take on the series when I watched the trailer. I know the developer of the game also said some things to piss off fans something about how because of how original Dante looked with his white hair he’d be laughed at nowadays (game even poked fun at this idea), but look who’s laughing now I guess? The game came out and I actually found it to be tons of fun!! Though the idea to turn Devil May Cry into some They Live video game and make it political was a strange choice. In a way I would have liked to see where they would have gone with this universe if it had continued.

Doctor Who Doom. The one by Andrew Brockhouse. It’s a pretty simple Partial Conversion with replacing some weapons, items, monsters and music with Doctor Who related things. The first 2 levels have a rendition of the Doctor Who theme playing and there’s nothing quite like shooting down Daleks, Cybermen and those weird swamp creature things with your Sonic Screwdriver all while listening to the Doctor Who theme. Not only that, but the wad itself appears to be based around Tom Baker’s Doctor (4th Doctor) which is even better.

That’s what I thought was weird. Cause I knew BOTH James Bond games Agent Under Fire and Everything Or Nothing both use Quake 3 and even credited ID Software for it. So when I heard Dead Aim used it supposedly I was shocked cause ID wasn’t mentioned anywhere.

So unless it isn’t true apparently the movie Tie in game of Blade for ps1 uses the ps1 version of the Quake 2 engine and so does a European platformer game called Jinx. Again I don’t know if the ps1 quake2 used Idtech so it may not count. Also apparently Blade2 for ps2 also used the Quake2 engine. Supposedly Resident Evil: Dead Aim also used a modified quake 3 engine again this may not be true. Haven’t heard any concrete info.

Can Doom 3 count? It’s a reboot/reimagining and technically wasn’t Final Doom the 3rd Doom?

That would be just like any other shooter then. If Doom doesn’t have demons it’s not DOOM!!

Pratt actually surprised me in the movie. I’ve always liked him though, but when I heard he was announced as Mario for the movie I went “….what?”. I wouldn’t want to hear it in a game though. The only thing I worry about is does this mean Mario may be getting more dialogue in future games? I certainly hope not.

It is a new voice in Wonder. They confirmed it wasn’t Charles. The new voice is pretty close to Charles’s, but maybe a pitch higher. I’m curious to learn who it is.

Also just a bit of information, some people think Charles started voicing Mario in the 64 game. It actually wasn’t surprisingly. It was in an obscure Pc game (maybe MS-Dos) Mario’s Game Gallery. Which is interesting cause I don’t believe Nintendo was involved with it and I believe he auditioned for Mario 64 or something.

Like I said it’s a shame it went under the radar. A switch port would be amazing and a Steam release would be nice too.

I just bought it yesterday. So far from a small team it’s pretty impressive how much they made it look and play like Doom 3. It plays fine in my opinion. It’s certainly not going to win any awards. My only issues is that the the enemies feel a bit too Bullet spongey and that it really needs a flashlight in certain areas. Other than that I’m really enjoying it.

Gunman Chronicles is such a great game still in my opinion. It’s funny how it started out as a quake 1 mod then moved to Quake 2 then finally landed on Goldsrc cause Goldsrc is a modified Quake 1 engine.

Don’t know if it’s been mentioned, but Realms Of The Haunting. Very good game in my opinion, but feel it could be fixed with a remaster.

Heavy Metal F.a.a.k 2. The creator has been trying to get it rereleased or remastered, but ran into rights issues I think. Was one of the better Quake 3 engine games. Shame it went so under the radar.

A few things. Not going to High School right away when I was offered after my 2nd semester of 8th grade. I felt I wasn’t ready and wanted to do the musical the following year the school was doing. Ended up being a really dumb decision cause all my friends from middle school graduated before me and I didn’t even get to go to the same high school as them until 10th grade. Smacked my dog to the point he yelped. I was in high school at the time and it was summer break. Well my younger sister was still sleeping and our dog spooner was barking at someone outside and I didn’t want the barking to wake up my sister. I told him to stop, but he wouldn’t listen. So what I thought was a light smack ended up being harder than I thought and he yelped and looked at me with really sad eyes with his head bent down. I felt so freaking bad that I got down and hugged him and kissed him telling him I was sorry. It is something that still irks me to this day. Spooner passed away last year in March at a good age of 18. Even today I wished I hadn’t done that. Another dog related thing. When I was in 4th grade we had a black lab Dixie who was our very first dog. There was an incident that happened that if it happened again we were gonna have to put her down. The first time it happened she was chewing on a bone. Little did I know that when a dog is eating it does not like you sneaking up behind them or something. So I tried petting her when she wasn’t paying attention so next thing I knew she snarled at me and bit the top of my eyelid to the point it bled. My older sister saw it happen and ran to get my dad. I was in tears, but dad was pissed with Dixie and wanted to make sure I was ok. Well years after something similar happened with my younger sister. I believe she was trying to give Dixie a hug while she was chewing on her bone. Again similar outcome. She ended up getting bitten and ran to mom crying. I saw my sister with Dixie at the moment, but had I known what was about to happen I could have screamed at my sister NO!! It’s not like anyone else wasn’t told never to do this again with Dixie. I begged and pleaded with my parents to not put Dixie down to no luck. Next day late afternoon Dixie was taken to the vet to be put down (which I was told at the time was she was going to live with one of my Dad’s work friends. Come to find years later that meant being put down.) In the back of my mind I still blame my younger sister for the reason Dixie being put down. Again had I just screamed NO I might have been able to stop it from happening.

I still buy DVD’s and Blu rays. I don’t trust streaming not to edit the movies.

Quake had expansions that were practically new games. Malice and X-men.

What’d you think of it? I personally loved it, but I could see why a lot of people didn’t.

Well this is unfortunate. I wouldn’t have minded a 3rd Alice game. Madness Returns even when it first came out was nothing to write home about. I tried going back and playing Returns, but there’s like almost no replay ability to it unlike the first game. I can still pop in the first one and still have fun with it. The fact that the first was made on the Quake 3 engine was pretty impressive as well. Does this mean anything for the tv show adaption they announced?

Does this mean anything for the System Shock remake?
