  1. I'm planning on recording a "let's listen" set through my SC-55, just waiting on all tracks to be finalized before going ahead. Once it's finished, I'll be sure to post the Youtube link here.
  2. Hey folks, I've recorded the Icarus Alien Vanguard OST through my Roland SC-55 and put together a YouTube playlist: https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLVDYINVKng7XZcRfnuQ6Fr4hEk74wIHcA Enjoy!
  3. Congrats on 10k subs! Pretty awesome :)

  4. Hell yeah Mark! Glad you messaged me or I probably would have missed it. I'm excited to say that I've finished my track for this project today and I'm super stoked to hear what everyone else has cooked up!

    Evilution and Icarus Soundtrack Mysteries

Apologies for the necro-post, but I did end up contacting Jonathan back in December of 2016. I got an email back from him saying he'd listen to the tracks and figure out which were his, but then sadly never replied after that. The mystery continues!

Stevic from Twelve Foot Ninja fixed it for you:

According to an interview with Ty, John Romero contacted him about 4.5 hours before Evilution was supposed to be released. I joined TeamTNT in November of '95 to work on Icarus, which from it's inception was to be a "mea culpa" to the community for the furor caused over having pulled Evilution. Interview here: https://5years.doomworld.com/interviews/tyhalderman/
  8. My beloved Roland XP-10 keyboard has been on the fritz for a few years now. The 1/4" audio outputs have been spotty (probably weak soldering on the mainboard?) and I'd been resorting to using the headphone output to get it in stereo. But now even that is only putting out the left channel. The official Roland SC-55 VST instrument is $125, which seems a little overpriced, and I've heard some of the patches are't 100% authentic. So I hopped on Ebay last night and now I have an original SC-55mkII on it's way to me from Japan. Here's to hoping everything works out.

  9. I'm a huge fan of Solar Fields, Carbon Based Lifeforms, BoC and especially Ulrich Schnauss. I hear a lot of this sort of stuff on the Psychedelic Muse YouTube channel: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCAepXw94EhaO0CZV9f5D3fQ Another favorite I keep coming back to is Kodomo.

    Requiem Reimagined (Soundtrack) Released

536 days, actually! We started talking about doing this on November 21, 2016 and we were working right down to... oh, 2 hours ago? :) It's been an incredibly fun journey, and I hope people enjoy listening to this as much as we've enjoyed the creation of it. I'll be working on putting this on YouTube for the next few days for folks who'd rather stream it than download it.
  12. I think I must have posted them some time back in 2015. Didn't you and Alfonzo use Elegant Tension on a speedmap? :) I should probably add links to MIDIs on my YouTube videos, that's a good idea! But in the meantime: Elegant Tension (AKA REQ-JD12.MID) https://drive.google.com/open?id=0B79YBwbj0yrTMDVJaUNIbDYwYTg Bucket of Fear (AKA REQ-JD08.MID) https://drive.google.com/open?id=0B79YBwbj0yrTczNGTlVQdlZYVUU And while I'm posting, I'd really like to thank you and Alfonzo for taking the time to write up these reviews! I'm very excited for everyone to hear what we've been working on for almost two years now!
  13. I'm not sure we'll be able to hit that deadline. I have to learn how to read music this week, in order to play what Tolwyn wants. My spastic improv guitar work wasn't working for the solo, so Tolwyn came up with this... I'm currently investigating the possibility of growing an extra 3 fingers on my left hand to help in playing it.

System requirements of extreme '90s vanilla wads

As I remember it, that was what was so exciting when the 3Dfx Voodoo stuff came out. Video cards at the time didn't always have dedicated 3D acceleration, so you used to have to take the output from the 2D card and daisy chain it into the Voodoo card. Now of course those only worked with OpenGL (If I remember correctly) and did absolutely nothing for Doom. But it made a huge difference in Quake!
  15. I also used to play both co-op and DM over BBSes. My friend and I played all the way through Doom and Doom 2 multiple times on co-op, we both had 2 phone lines in our houses, so we'd be playing Doom while talking on the phone at the same time. Imagine that! There was no Teamspeak or whatever the whipper-snappers use these days :)

    Your thoughts on TNT Evilution

I hope I'm not taking what you said out of context, but I can assure you there was never any talk about making Icarus a commercial release. In fact a lot of the motivation behind Icarus was to "make up" for the fact that Evilution was announced as a free add-on, then withdrawn when negotiations with id started.

    RIP Gibson Cakewalk.

I had been using Cakewalk since version 3.01, then moved on to Cakewalk Pro Audio and then Sonar some time in the early 2000s. Cakewalk was amazing in the early 90s because it ran rock-solid, I don't recall it ever crashing on me in Win95 or Win98. I remember Roland had acquired Cakewalk in the late 2000s which I thought was a good fit, I hadn't heard that Gibson had taken over. Gibson pretty much ruins everything they touch, in my opinion.

    Post a picture of yourself!

Nice newtonian back there! Is that a Celestron?
  19. Ever wanted to hear Requiem's soundtrack played on an actual Roland SC-55? Well, now you can!

100% inspired by your "Let's Listen" videos, which I've been using as a reference for a few years now.

Sounds much better in your uploads - all I did was use ZDoom and Fraps to record audio since nobody else uploaded these soundtracks at the time.

The DWIronman League dies to: Osiris

Hey folks, I wanted to chime in here and say how awesome it is to see people playing this mod after so many years. I remember playing through "I, Anubis" somewhere around the time Icarus was released and thinking to myself "I need to be involved in this!". It's the only project where I contacted the authors and asked if I could write music for them. I have a playlist of the soundtrack on YouTube, including some material that didn't get used and a longer version of Map02's music: Also, original MIDI files available here: https://drive.google.com/drive/folders/0B79YBwbj0yrTRUx2X3FZamhmZ1E Thanks for listening!
  21. Things I didn't know I mispronounced until I got married: Museum - I pronounce it "mu-ZAM" as opposed to "mu-ZEE-am". Camry (the Toyota car) - I say "CAM-ray" and I'm apparently wrong even after having owned two of them. "CAM-ree"!
  22. Pong as well, there really wasn't much variety back then.
  23. Gotta say, Levi Nickerson did an awesome job on this Icarus MAP11 cover!

  24. Just finished updating the "Let's Listen - TNT: Revilution" series on Youtube to reflect changes made to the soundtrack since the beta.

Would you put this put to bandcamp of something like that? Really want to have MP3 to listen to.

    2. JDoyle

How about this: I'll make the MP3s available to download for a while until I run out of space on Google Drive. Also included are the MP3s I recorded of tracks that are no longer used in the final release (denoted by OLD in the file name).

      Individual tracks available here:

A 222mb zip of the entire set:

What PWADs invoke the most nostalgia for you?

Most nostalgic for me is Aliens TC. I was amazed at how tense and atmospheric it was compared to Doom.
