  1. Casual reiteration that I am not a kangaroo, I am a wallaby, and that I am not from Australia, I'm from Brazil!

[23th January 2023] UT99.org is getting updated right now! We will be back soon! Meanwhile, you are welcome to visit us on Discord: https://discord.gg/6CP2UjZ

  5. Instead of a static media upload size limit, consider drip-feeding it monthly, and making it pay-to-win. Imagine the paper, Ling! The raw, unbridled paper, rolling in! The sounds of cash register machines echoing in the horizon of your mind as if beaming from Heaven itself!

@RastaManGames Now you'll have to pay DoomGold to be able to do that.  :D

  6. When will I have a laptop again? I've had to borrow this one every now and then for a while now. Seems it'll stay this way for a while.

  8. Funny warnings that last forever, risk people seeing them as awards or medals instead of as scolding, as a sort of coping mechanism or way to feel good about themselves. Especially when they last so long, or become irrelevant, and become just this ingrained part of the profile.

I know I'm not exactly proud of mine — I don't wanna be known forever as "the shitposty guy", cause I do sometimes, but not when it's inappropriate (at least not these days), and I do talk about serious topics quite often. I mean, it's amusing. But maybe not quite applicable at this point in time.

  9. Olá e bem-vindo, Luan! Reconheci a tupileza do nome hihi. E tenha uma boa estadia, tchê!

  10. Today is a big day for Brazil, perhaps one of the biggest! I am very proud of our people and very happy at Lula's victory. It is a big win for democracy and a victory over fascism.

  11. braking bad  [whirrrrrrrrrrrr]

  12. Yo, you know what would actually be cool in a level editor?

CSG, a tree hierarchy, and a separation of floors and ceilings. That would be rad.

Imagine being able to adjust ceiling beams without having to touch the lines that comprise the floor indentations. Then when it compiles down to actual Doom sectors, it would simply make a new sector for each combination.

Plus you could have a pillar "brush" which itself is a tree of brushes, some of them carving solidity out of the room, others carving into that solidity themselves (e.g. for lights)! Then you can copy-paste it into another room and it automatically does all the carving for you, with the magic of CSG and trees.

Man I really wanna do something like this now, but it would have to be separate from any interface/GUI, maybe have an Intermediary Representation (IR) language of sorts for interfacing with other programs, I dunno.

  13. I wonder where Mr. Lunitrazepam's been at lately.

  14. Hot take: You're no longer paying the devs of Doom when you buy Doom.

The proceeds aren't going to any of the OGs, they're just going to some spoiled investors and rich brats, like the stockholders of ZeniMax Media (today merged into Microsoft via Xbox Game Studios).

This isn't to say that you shouldn't; after all, it still is an unlawful activity not to, and it could get you in trouble...

But rather, I'm saying that it is a moral gray area. I think it isn't worthwhile to use abstract principles as a starting point to claim that it is immoral not to do so, and that it is better to examine the material consequences of both possibilities.

After all, the moral and the legal are often at odds with each other :)

Listen, I ain't exactly opposed to the ol' yar-har, but people have been banned for promoting piracy, or even entertaining the idea. I don't necessarily agree with that, but I'm just telling you as a friend./

@Sr_Ludicolo I could argue I'm not promoting it or anything :p

  15. In the general instance, a ban represents the already failure of the social means of moderation at preserving a conducive environment.

When some step out of line, people will nudge them. Those who act in good faith generally apologize and return to the norms of acceptable behaviour. This is just one instance and example of the social means of moderation – when people hold each other accountable and help each other understand the norms of what is considered acceptable by the group, rather than such roles being reserved by a superior authoritative position.

This means two things. Primarily, opportunity must be given for the social means of moderation to carry themselves out. Eager bans, out of unforgiving stringency, only produce discontent and loss, for all parties involved, except perhaps for the individual emotional satisfaction of the Ruler emitting said stringency. On the other hand, should this opportunity already have been given, it is then justified to forcefully remove individuals who stubbornly refuse to cooperate in maintaining a harmonious space.

In other words, once chances have already been given, troublemakers can be safely assessed to truly be up to no good, representing an absolutely fruitless nuisance at best (such as excessive shitposting), and very concrete harm to others at worst (such as harassment towards minorities like transgender people, or dogwhistles known to organize such extremist harassment groups).

It is worthwhile to remember that people change over time. In fact, people's attitudes and behaviours are shaped primarily by the environment around them, such as that in which they are raised, and the social interactions as a whole that they undergo throughout developmental stages and adulthood alike.

Such observation leads to the conclusion that temporary coercion is generally preferable to permanent bans, as they fit the role of restoring harmony, whilst allowing for an opportunity for return in the near future, once perhaps the person has reflected on these events, or otherwise simply lost interest in continuing such general undesirability in these spaces.

Put in a roundabout way, any eventual removals should place priority upon the maintenance or restoration of harmony in the social space, rather than specifically on the shunning of dissents.

TL;DR Use bans sparingly, and when they are to be used, generally prefer temporary bans.

Of course edge cases exist, such as botnets. Decision making must be made pragmatically in such instances and edge cases; this excerpt refers to the general case..

  20. @sirjuddington for some reason SLADE stopped building properly for me ever since Arch Linux ditched wxgtk2 completely and renamed wxgtk3 to wxwidgets-gtk3 – renaming the dependencies isn't enough. It does find wx-config and configure and compile the compilation units properly, but linking fails with several "non-virtual thunk" errors.

Actually, trying to build aur/slade-git only props up 4 issues, and they're all SFML related linking errors. https://termbin.com/8zwo
