Come chill with me as we test out some Skulldash community map submissions by @Xyzzy01 & @Remmirath, then if time permits, crack on with a bit of mapping :)
-
I've been requested by @AtroNxto play his JoM4 map on-stream.
After that I'll probably be working away on Skulldash maps, as always! :)

Streaming! Going to test both @Jimmy's & @Bauul's Skulldash submissions, any leftover time will be spent re-working @Remmirath's Skulldash map :D

Going to be testing @Yugiboy85's newest map on-stream, and if time permits, smash out a little bit of Skulldash mapping. :)

Question: When I originally released Skulldash I started working on a 100% completion tutorial series, but abandoned it knowing just how much was being updated.
I plan to start that again, releasing an entire 100% completion tutorial for the whole of Skulldash. What would you prefer? One single video, or multiple videos breaking it down into each tier (4 - 6 levels per video)?
Obviously these videos will come with Dev Commentary etc

I'd go multiple videos too, with links to all the other tiers embedded at the end of each video (presuming you use YT) and included in the description, so it's easy to view them all in one sitting if someone wants to.
-
Reminder that timestamps for the video are clickable on YouTube, so whichever way you go about this (whether it's all one big video or one for each tier), you can provide the timestamp for the beginning of each of the maps in the video description, or in a comment underneath the video, to allow viewers to pick precisely which map they want to watch being run.

Skulldash Expansion - Coming 22nd October 2017!
Y'all are probably sick of seeing this appear in a few threads, but I want to get the word around I guess. :P

Who knows anything about the WoW TCG? I saw about 1,000 - 2,000 cards in a local 'charity shop' for £15.00. Was wondering if it's good, if it's still active etc. :)
-
Hello Dragonfly.
I've played some WoW TCG, and even ordered some boxes from overseas. It is fairly similar to Magic in terms of structure. One could say "very close to a copy", in fact. I found it enjoyable however, and a better experience than "Heartstone", which replaced it.
I haven't played in any tournaments or so, so I can't tell you anything about recent activity, unfortunately.I'd also say that 15 pounds is a good price for 1500 cards - at least when compared to the original prices.

I'm doing that newfangled thing called streaming. Come hang out!

To quote the nerdy guy from Day of The Tentacle: Neat!

The badassness is strong with this one.

I am easily entertained by coincidental occurences.
Bosses are evil, so it's funny to me that the boss HP bar graphic happens to be 666 bytes in size.

Sixteen hours later and I'm ending my stream. I didn't succeed to do the 24 hour slog I had hoped, but realistically wasn't expecting to manage that.
I've got SO MUCH done during this stream, as evidenced below.
A huge thank you to all who tuned in and took the time to say hi and hang out. Extended thanks go to @Jimp Argon who dueled me 1v1 for a few maps on stream! :P (I can't help but feel like they convincingly let me win a few times though! :P)

Approx. 10 mins until my 'endurance stream' starts where I intend to play and make doom maps for over 12 hours!

WE DID IT. 12 hours deep into streaming without a break. (Not a proper one. I had a 20 min food break I suppose.)
We're still going strong. Come join at https://www.twitch.tv/dragonflyos

On 19th July 2017 (1 week from now) I intend to do an 'endurance stream' of sorts, lasting anywhere from 12 - 24 hours long. I mostly intend to develop Skulldash, and possibly do some testing of other people's levels. If you want me to review or test your work(s) during the stream, drop me a pm or message here letting me know! :D
(this is a duplicate post of the one on the Doom Streams thread, for wider exposure)

I know Video Game Music is, to some extent, a genre of it's own right, but it seems most VGM's can be characterized into normal genres. RPG Battle music however could easily be it's own genre outright, they often don't follow the standards and nuances of most genres and with this type of music anything goes in terms of instruments. Your opinions?

So all in all you essentially agree - battle music from RPGs (and other RPG music at times) often can't really be classified as anything except 'battle music'. :P
-
I think the best term would be score, like the kind of score in things like movies, which often have "unclassifyable" music to just enhance the atmosphere.
-
I swear I get an unusual / unhealthy amount of enjoyment from 'proper project management' at times. :P

ROFL, the contrast between our methods cracks me up. For me it's like..
*playtests map and stuff that currently needs work, mentally notes 10 things that need fixing, remembers to fix 5 of them, bumbles around in editor forgetting everything I know about doom, questions life itself, etc*
-
well if you enjoy this then you like your work, but this gets harder.

Here's a video of some recent changes made to Skulldash:
You'll have to forgive my incredibly shoddy typing skills, and also ignore the HUDMessages that overlap as that's on my 'fixlist'. :)

I've been trying to launch a game on my shoddy old laptop and a receiving this error message:
Game is Populous: The Beginning.
I looked online, saw that it's due to a missing DPLAYX.DLL so I grabbed a copy and while it seems to be relevant I'm now confronted with this error message:
Looking online hasn't really helped me here. Any time I come across a thread where the OP says 'fixed it!' they never explain how they fixed it.
Can any of Doomworld's techies please help out on this one? :)

If your system was a fresh install of Windows 8 or 10, not an upgrade from 7, you might simply not have DirectPlay installed.
1) Go into Safe Mode (check out guides on how to)
2) Press [Windows + X] or open the Control Panel and look for "Programs and Features"
3) Click on "Turn Windows features on or off" on the left menu
4) Look for "Legacy Components" and tick "Direct Play"
5) Wait for it to install and confirm it's done
6) Reboot normally
7) Now your game should launch properly -
Thanks for the reply Albertoni. I'll give it a shot tomorrow. I appreciate everyone's assistance. :)

Job hunting is strangely frustrating right now, but not in the way you'd expect!
So to fill in the story quickly, let's go back in time a few months.
I was a full time employee for a local web design company, and I LOVED the job, the people and the pay. Sadly, they weren't earning enough money as a business to maintain my wages, and subsequently had to reduce my hours to 3 days a week from 5 days a week. This wage defecit made it difficult to afford the cost of living and was causing me to slowly burn my savings that I've built up over five years. I'd estimate I've burned through a year or two's worth of saving, which sucks, but you do what you have to do.
To counter this, I quit that job and started as a receptionist in a hotel while working for myself as a web/print designer on a freelance basis. This was great for a bit but the over-worked state I was in meant I essentially dropped the web/print part in only a month from when I started.
A week ago, the hotel announced to the staff that they are closing for renovations and are subsequently making *every staff member* redundant, without promise of a job to return to post-renovation. Well shit, I'm essentially unemployed. At least I get redundancy pay despite having only worked here for 2 months, they're not legally obligated to pay out, but then they'd be absolutely screwed if I just up-and-left, so they had to entice me and the other staff into staying till the end I suppose...
Anyways, here we are today! My past experiences have proven finding a job in the web/print industries can be hard, but now I'm on the other (better) side of the fence; having applied to 51 jobs which are all within a 1 hour drive's range of my home and of matching or higher salary to my old web design role.
I now realise I've applied to way too many jobs and I am receiving too many replies! I've not actually been able to accept all interview offers due to having too little time between now and my vacation next week (Flying out on Wednesday). I even have a telephone interview lined up for when I'm supposed to be waiting to board my flight.
I honestly I can't afford to go on that holiday right now, but it was booked months back and is at my grandmother's house in mainland Spain, so I guess I can keep it as cheap as possible. What is amazing to me is how a vacation is actually causing me stress thanks to potentially missing out on good jobs!
I feel like a total asshole for complaining about what is actually a good position to be in, especially when I think about the people out there who have literally nothing; but then the fear of what may be if I fail to succeed in the interviews is making me feel like I'm not allowed to go on this vacation, and that I shouldn't enjoy myself while I'm there. And yes, I'm that addicted to Doom mapping I still find time to make maps and shit thanks to working night shifts at the hotel, heh.

Looool we must know a lot of the same people...
Good luck as you sift through your potential opportunities; stressful, I'm sure, but like you said it's a good problem to have :)
I'm sad to hear the web design path hit a wall, but maybe in time you'll find that path clear again; for now I think you've made the right choice.
-
Thanks for the enthusiasm! I've got another interview lined up for Monday, a telephone interview Tuesday evening, and then I'm out the country for a week.
If I wasn't working these night shifts (which are essentially 2 hours work, 5 hours do what I want, 1 hour try not to sleep challenge ) I'd have no free time to make maps or do all the other shit I do when 'relaxing'. :P

Seeing my all-time favourite band today (again!).
Coheed and Cambria. The lead singer is a comic book author (The Amory Wars), and before the show is at a local comic book megastore called "The Forbidden Planet" for a meet'n'greet signing event too!
Here's a taste of live Coheed:
MAN YOUR OWN JACKHAMMER! Man your battle stations!
