  1. I know Video Game Music is, to some extent, a genre of it's own right, but it seems most VGM's can be characterized into normal genres. RPG Battle music however could easily be it's own genre outright, they often don't follow the standards and nuances of most genres and with this type of music anything goes in terms of instruments. Your opinions?

      So all in all you essentially agree - battle music from RPGs (and other RPG music at times) often can't really be classified as anything except 'battle music'. :P

      I think the best term would be score, like the kind of score in things like movies, which often have "unclassifyable" music to just enhance the atmosphere.
