Any way I could convince you to share the Doom 1 stuff with me? I'd be happy to seed a torrent of said ogg's/mp3's forevermore if I could get my hands on them. I know there is at least a moderate interest in the old OPL driven soundtrack, you can see griping about poor emulation on just about every doom forum around. Not to mention my own huge interest. :)

Has anyone just output from a dosbox(as in an old computer with real OPL sound card, not the emu) and recorded some high quality mp3's or vorbis files of the music from actual OPL hardware? Seems like a much easier solution to me.

Aren't those things a couple of thousand a piece?? I doubt that's in your average doomers budget...It'd be awesome though.

Meh if you want my input... for a smaller crt monitor id say the sony e240 it can be had (reasonably) cheap and has nice display quality, is non shaddow mask, and has good refresh rates@ most res. Its a 17 inch. But it all depends, do you want crt or lcd? and what size? and whats your price range?

180, wow off by so much! and i have seen the card in action, it is impressive, but not impressive enough to pay *180* extra dollars for it when i can have the radeon 9700 pro which can do 90% as well. and no offense but you don't seem adept enough to assemble a pc much less mod a case.

1. your an idiot, look around(god forbid) MANY people with the c stepping 2.56 have o/c'd on air to as high as 3.4 ghz you just cant get the true c stepping as easily as the 2.4b but god forbid people had to know what they were looking for and actually have the know how to tell them apart...and the 2.4b becomes unstable before it comes close to 3.0 ghz mark...god 2.you wanna pay 200 extra (yes 200 the 9700pro can be had for $220) for mild architectural changes with mediocre performance increases go for it..and thats just for the 128mb version...and even the 128 meg version has the f-buffer revision...still not worth it. 3. the topflowing blowhole on the xaseriii is what makes it the best flowing air case there is. period! AND you don't have to get the psu that comes with the case... i told you antec was the way to go... your fucking blind... get thicker glasses... 4.but scsi is and will be the way to go for a while, and it is not as expensive as your making it out to be. they defrag in an hour and have incredible access times. anyonebut the computer inept will defrag monthly or even biweekly.... have fun on your 7500rpm western digital. itll only take, ohhhhh, a day or two for 120 gigabytes. not to mention wester digitals warranty with the se's is dodgey at best, heh, pray you dont have any problems. sata is buggy? example? and linkage to back it up? All looks? did you just look at the case and not the features? It has the best cooling design on the market and no the case you picked out is not even close to the same as the xaser just read some reviews on the xaser and actually look at the specs and design of the case, not just some exterior shots....i can tell you havent, it is the best air cooling case there is. Period.

If you want to have the ultimate pc you might want to get Mushkin! hi performance pc3200 cl2 memory modules, It's a bit more expensive than corsair though. you can pick up 512 modules for almost $200. If i were you though I'd get the msi sis648max-L(ignore toms hardwares BS bias payed off "review" its garbage) it's only 80 bucks and is dual channel, throw a 2.56ghz True c stepping processor (can O/C to 3.0+ ghz on air easily,slk-900 is nice for this situation =D) some mushkin 2-2-2 pc2700 ram and your only going to see 5% difference (or less) in most games with the canterwood. I also would get the radeon 9700pro over the 9800pro only small archetectural changes and speed boost, not worth the almost 200 extra dollers IMHO. Good choice in psu btw. antec is the best and that case is great, but if you want the leetest case(aside from vapochill's 500$ liquid cool cases), it's by far the thermal take xaser III though its a might expensive(just about $200 for silver version)! If you want to improve performance even further you may also want to ditch the 120 gb western digital and get a SCSI dual array(10,000+rpm HDD's YUM!) or a sata raid setup in raid 0 stripping(would require a ide raid controller on the msi board but hey it isnt that much)2x 80 WD s.e. is not too pricey. Just a techheads advice to a fellow doomer. This system can be put together for about $1500(maybe less) via pricewatch, new egg, google gear, and textag (minus your monitor and speakers).

I have my Pentium 4 1.6ghz, gf3 ti 200, 256mb sd ram running doom 3 at a damn near constant 20fps(exception of firing which is explained at the bottom of the page, and no being attacked doesnt bother me nor do the imps/pinkys complex animations like leaping, one other exception are the particle heavy situations like when the imp spawns in where the table is in e3_2, strangley not that wierd laser thing). here's how i did it: open up doom3.config with note pad and change the follwing values: seta r_useGL2 from 1 to 0 (as if im not mistaken gl2.0 is not even in use yet correct me if im wrong, as this is the biggest framerate booster.), seta r_useStandardGL from 0 to 1 (well it has to use some form of gl and imo it doesnt change the gfx much at all really.), seta image_anisotropy from 8(!!!!) to whatever image filtering level your gfx card can handle (probably 4, for me its 2), a few lines before the anisotropy there are a bunch of lines for image compression set them all to 1, r_mergeShadows set from 1 to 0, seta r_ext_compress_textures from 0 to 1, seta r_colorbits 32 to 16 seta r_fullscreen 0 to 1 (running windowed reduces performance) seta r_shadows 1 to 0 s_reverbPercentage 20 to 0 seta s_roomAcoustics from 1 to 0 (another major performance booster) (it's important to set those two because if im not mistaken it will still process the reverb info even with sound disabled, dunno why) seta com_maxfps from 200 to 999 These two i did not mess with and i am sure they will kill doom3's look:seta r_depthbits 32 to 16 seta r_stencilbits 32 to 16 a few more you can change with big hits to gfx are the likes of image depth and some others on that line (which is comprised of most of the higher end fx) the only thing i am having real trouble as far as steep and sudden performance hits are weapons firing (monsters attacking no longer slow me)I know it has to do with the muzzle flash and smoke fx. if anyone knows how to disable muzzle flashes plz pm me, thanks. sorry for the parameters being out of order i was copying and pasting as i figured out what helped and what didnt, you will have to hunt for them, again sorry and no im not all that tech savvy ive just been tweaking id engine games configs for a long time to keep the games running smooth on my always sub par gfx card(s) so don't bash me on my lack of knowledge on things such as gl2.0 please
