    @HQDefault I love it! This seems like a really cool idea! Are you joining maps by association of level #? i.e. Map 01 + E1M1 and Map02 + E1M2? Or is there something more to which maps you decide to combine?

    Battlemode Multi-Purpose Thread

    I wanted a place to share some clips of my battlemode conquests, as well as to discuss the gamemode and it’s multiple facets. In short; although it is strange and often frustrating, I’m having a blast playing Battlemode. Playing with my roommate makes for some super fun games, and I’m excited to see where they take it!     Personally, I don't think the first DLC will be ready by then. We will certainly be seeing more of it, but i doubt it will be released.

    This is a good thing. No longer will my health bar seem to vanish before my eyes in battlemode. Quick switching is a great mechanic, and can be fun to fight against; but the previous state of it made it near impossible to play against god-tier slayers. They could simply delete your healthbar if you made even the slightest wrong move. A tremendous pressure has been released on demon players everywhere.

    Work continues on Metastasis. A pre-release thread has been up for a week or two; much more playtesting and feedback are needed for the map. Here are some screenshots I took today of it.

    I can't even fathom the length of my post if were to list all of my grievances with that social media platform. So I'll keep it brief. I really really don't like it.

    What is a Good name for a Doom Wad?

    There is no such thing as a themeless wad. Even a set of startan boxes is still a theme in of in itself. Just cause you don't have a massive set piece don't mean there ain't no theme. Now, take into consideration the textures that you are using. More nature shit? Naturish name. Tech base shit? Techbase name. Hell shit? Hell name. Simple theme. For techbase levels, I imagine that a certain location would make for a good name; much like central processing. Hell levels are the easiest to name. Unending Torment. Frivolous Pain. Incessant Taxation. Generally anything metal enough to sound well... metal. If you don't mind reading the bible, just steal some small phrases from that. That's what iD did in Episode 4 with classics like Perfect Hatred and... some others from that episode. If you don't feel like your map fits into any of the above, then just name it with some combat sounding nouns, verbs, and adjectives smashed together. Bonus points for adverbs. This is where you flex what you learned in English class, with regards to things like metaphors and shit. Splash Zone (I used this for a DM map with alot of water). Strafe Station (A map made by @aletheos eberlain. A space station where you.... strafe). Blast Palace. Blitz Spree. Feature a certain weapon? Plasma meltage. Rocket launchage. Shotgun shootage. Sometimes, a really short name is provocative enough to make the player think something crazy is coming. Death Pain Sting (Stole from a post that @Horus literally just made on HAK's thread) Blood Doom Quake Wait... These single word names have to work though, you can't use shit like pencil or napkin lest you want folks to think it's a joke map. Themed maps only work when they're named right. Often the 'theme' comes from the name itself. Just observe your map and find motifs you used within it to find distinct features. Some examples would be: Every map in Ancient Alien: Ancient Navajo Wolf Warp, Bad Medicine Men, Sinkhole Showdown, to name a few. Colosseum of the Acid King by @RonnieJamesDiner. This one isn't even exactly 'themed' I would say. It's just really big (Colosseum), and it has a lot of green shit (acid). Idk who the acid king is, but hey! It sounds cool! Monster Jail Mayhem by @Clippy. Super simple. It's a Monster Jail... with... Mayhem (The alliteration helps this stand out) Portal to Puzzle Hell by @Horus. There are portals and puzzles in this map. Simple enough. Metastasis by me (!). Metastasis is a sciency word I stumbled upon that describes when a disease or cancer makes it's way to other parts of the body. And since the map has a lot of hellgrowth spreading through a tech-base I thought it would work. Play your map a few times and find out what you do within it that stands out. A whole fuckin lot of a certain feature? Crushers, damaging liquids, ambushes, etc. Then name your map after one of these to give the player an indication of what they'll be facing. Once your map is named, you could even go back into a builder and build your map to better fit the name. It's weird to think about but it's a mindset thing you gotta be in to understand. To wrap things up, I generally follow a theme, that can be seen in some examples above, which is a simple noun and adjective combination. Something simple enough but descriptive enough to be effective. Alliteration in this department makes you a king. Sometimes you can even build off of that simple base. Central Scrutinizer (Stolen from a Frank Zappa song, and used in a map of mine) Place of Death Death's Domain Dying Death Death's Dying Death Death (death is a good eyebrow raiser, but don't overdo it) Pain Center Killing Fields (gerund, but still) Nameless Pain Indescribable Fear Inconsequential Punishment Sentimental Schadenfreude Penultimate Penitentiary Crappy Crates Freak Factory Burning Babies Burning Babies in the Freak Factory Cretaceous Crustacean Smashing Station TheMemeMind's Metaphorically Memefied Marsupial Meme Mine You get the jist
  15. Thank you for playing my speedmap! Now I do have a question. A few weeks ago you played a map in progress of mine: Metastasis. I've already dropped my first update to the pre-release thread, but I didn't link it here. I wanted to ask you how much progress I should make on that map before I submit it again. Or, would you prefer me to finish it before I submit it again. (The change log for update 1 isn't incredibly significant, but some of the areas you commented on were improved in light of your comments, hence why I'm asking.)
