What's the best gun in Doom II?

This is a better time stamp to describe the weapon.
  2. For some reason I feel like the reach of chainsaw is vastly longer in Doom 2 than is it in just Doom 1, I don't know why. I've launched them both in chocolate doom.

If i buy doom on steam. Will i have the .wad file?

is there any thread\topic where I can see all of the sprites that has been replaced with the Doom 3 BFG edition? That got me curious, I thought it was only the red cross.

When Doom looks more cartoony than Serious Sam...

Now I start to wonder if doomguy\doom slayer is actually a blonde, or if he's dying his hair.

I'm not sure if steam have vanila wads. The rumors say that it replaces the vanilla medkits sprites with some that have weird two striped egg drawn on it.
  6. I still find it the most common and easiest strategy on most official commercial original vanila doom games, the shells are practically impossible to ever run out. That is not count mods that are, of course, depend on each one.

yeah, I find chaingun quite underrated tbh. If there was a mappack with nothing but big ammo boxes, and the only enemies you'd encounter were the hitscanners, the chaingun would be absolutely best.

    SSG is overpowered, fact.

    The New BFG

Considering these would be seeking plasma balls piercing through enemies than conscious ghosts, then that would resemble Bloodscourge more than wraithverge. What I wonder more is that if it will actually act more like BFG from Quake 2, and have more ammo for it. I find the ammo supply for it way too rare in Doom 2016, definitelly not enough to have constant fun with it.

Not every doom is objectively better the moment you make it in to a Brutal Doom, bruh. Ironically, the moment when you give the doom a lots of overwhelming unnecessary non-realistic gore is when you attract the most of 6 years old kids. I bet the fans and more elderly players would rather value the gameplay instead.

wow, now THIS is what I call an animal abuse.

When Doom looks more cartoony than Serious Sam...

Doom 2 is probably the most cartoony video game FPS I know, after Wolf 3D. Because, it have at least 70% of all sprites drawn from scratch, and that's a cartoon. Hell, even doomguy's face is 100% cartoon. Is Doom 2 is a bad game now? I guess Wolf 3D is the worst game ever existed then lol. I don't care how cartoony the game is, all care if they give fun enough gameplay, big enough variety of guns, and enemies that aren't just walking around targets with signs placed on them saying "I'm just an another useless harmless NPC, shoot me lol idk". Speaking about the enemies, I really got disappointed watching an early Doom Eternal trailer. Most enemies, especially mancubus, are just like walking around, doing their own business, being 100% innocent, and doomguy is just slaughtering through them all even though they didn't even shown a sign of threat or violence. I hope in the final product these guys aren't just look "scary", or well, actually, just ugly, but actually trying their hardest to win. After all, their own life is on threat, and you would be full of adrenaline just to avoid of being killed.

    What wads do you prefer?

ikr but unlike the "other" and 'simple'-tons you mentioned, some people actually have taste. :V

*UNDER CONSTRUCTION* Jazz Jackrabbit Doom TC

Don't take it as offense, but I enjoyed more that one secret level of Hocus Pocus Doom with short Jazz Jackrabbit gameplay as some kind of small reference, it just felt more vivid, complex and had more platforming + traps in there. Interesting concept and good work nonetheless, will your mod feature a secret level with Hocus Pocus theme and Hocus Pocus gameplay in it? :P

Aside from MAYBE a Stronghold, all of the things you listed are just average mappacks with rather empty walls and minimalism details that didn't bring anything new mechanically nor look anywhere as detailed as KDIZD, despite that "some" turn in to stand alone steam games eventually. No, "custom assets" doesn't count. Sure, things like City of the Damned: Apocalypse did bring elements of interactive letters, but it's nothing new for 2013. In a sense of "aesthetics" and gameplay wise, they feels and tastes pretty much identical, especially the first six things you listed in a row. I know that hellforged even add new guns, but they feel so vanilla that I got bored on just fifth level, I'm sorry. Again, considering KDiZD was released like in middle of 2007, with all of it's features were practically new and first appeared in this particular "wad", hell that was a mind blowing. I can be wrong but it's probably the first time the doom "wad" introduced monitors with cameras. I've yet to see another mappack of equal of mind blowing features like we seen in 2007, but I doubt it's something possible unless Zahl will add full true 3D support maps and map destructibility like in Red Faction. The only thing that comes to mind is total chaos, but it's mostly a mod itself than a mappack that makes it unique. Oh and what coincidence, the first open alpha was released in 2016-2018, like a decade later! I know that what I say may sound like unpopular opinion to most, but it just proudly stays as one with solid reasoning as a backup. Just because you don't like it, it doesn't automatically turns in to "steaming load of garbage".
  16. Just look at it's barrels, the size of this beast is outstanding, so in order for this gun to function properly and shoot accurately, it must have rounds of exact same size as the caliber of the barrel. It shatters me to think for what exact purposes such huge rounds for such weapons were invented in the future, and what for. I still wonder how it's possible that the chaingun and the pistol share the same ammo type, considering that the pistol is your standard 9mm Beretta 92. Seriously, there are only two options, either chaingun has rounds so insanely huge, they are literally the size of grenades, considering each barrel is of a size of a 40mm grenade launcher, like M32's, and with the help of Demonic Magic the ammo turns in to 9mm for the pistol; OR the chaingun is so tiny that it's of a size of a small revolver barrel and he's holding the gun near his eyes, because UAC are so greedy and wanted to cut the ammo cost on chainguns. Possibly, the chaingun indeed is 9mm and is so huge at the same time. It's size comes from the fact that 9mm barrels are covered by water cooling thicc barrel jackets (like on Maxim, Vickers or Lewis guns), but has a muzzle flash enhancer mounted on each of its barrels, which explains its huge muzzle flash. Thus, each time you fire your chaingun, you'd scare the hell out of a monsters by a mere fake firework show. Perhaps the most rational answer is: Doomguy is actually augmented Gatlinguy and has a small chaingun in his mouth.

    What is 'The Void'?

oh dang, I totally forgot about this masterpiece.

    What is 'The Void'?

void is literally a void, a place behind the map and existence itself, a place of the pure nothingness.

    wads for mobile?

idk about "map", but aeod301.wad seem fits perfect for mobile play. Doesn't lag either.

it seem to use completely different mechanic of very, very close to each other "lines" of steps with different heights, that instantly "teleport" you on top of it. Same thing been used in TNT or Plutonia on some maps IIRC. It works more like staircase than ladder. In case of KDIZD, it have completely different mechanic, which doesn't instantly warp you on top but actually force you to climb up which takes some time, and in fact you can smoothly move either up and down. Not something I've ever seen in any other different "wads" and mappacks, not prior KDIZD at least.
  21. Since the very toddler years, it was something I always consider a familiar tune, but I couldn't remember where exactly did I heard before. Even as I got older I couldn't remember exactly where did I first heard it from. Eventually I got reminded it's actually from the soviet's classic Sherlock Holmes and Dr. Watson serial, made in 1980. Appears it have almost exact same tune, even using the same stringed bow instruments instruments. This tune appears in two OST, and they sound exactly like the main tune of Into Sandy's City. Now experience the comparison: Overture from Sherlock Holmes and Dr. Watson. (01:07) Similar tune plays in OST Sherlock Holmes & Dr. Watson - The Hound of the Baskervilles, which is about the same but speed up: (01:30) And now compare it to Doom II OST: It might not sound exactly the same, neither have the same atmosphere between each other, but the tune's notes seem to be almost identical. There is also an popular remix of this tune made somewhere in what I believe was very early 90's. This one have the up tone beat and increased dynamic close to the one in Doom II: Fun fact: there is a .midi version of this song was added to iddqd.wad which is a DM mod, this mod still appears among the iddqd community servers. At first I thought it was just a Into Sandy's City remix, appears I was wrong. So what do you think, does it sound familiar to you? Do you think Robert (Bobby) Prince could have been inspired by the USSR's classics, at least subliminally? Share your opinion on this subject.
  22. Well, I actually would like a BFcG, a chaingun bfg that shoots bfg balls at the speed of chaingun fire rate.
  23. What you're highlighted in that image is is the un23, which is completely different midi that has *nothing* in common with Into Sandy's City song. DiaboluciĆ³n already shown us one. Also, the correct word is not "rejected", but 'disproven' ;) Well, I've just analysed both songs by notes, and I can't see a single thing that is common in them, be that chords, or temps, or notes, or progression.
  24. Yeah, I honestly don't get it either. I find it funny that DiaboluciĆ³n actually did provide STP song, and yet doesn't sound anything like Into Sandy's City, neither any of the midi comments provide any information as to whether or not Robert Prince was inspired by that one particular song when he wrote Into Sandy's City. It's a quite a conundrum for me to know where exactly did that myth came from, as there no information about it on internet aside from some fan websites that just assume where each song was inspired\copied from.
