  1. But making some .exe changes, or idk, some else changes, would make it be possible to work on DOS? Sorry for repeating myself, as I get more confused. What I ask, if dosbox runs hexen.exe, but make that .exe run that movie.exe at right moment in right time, would that still run on dosbox or it would open that movie.exe as standalone programm that would still display these cutscenes infront of your screen regardless? So the only way (or the easiest, at least) to make the cutscenes play is to have some kind of port that would work exactly like DOS, or say, chocolate HeXen, just in addition to have PS1's movie format capability of playing, and put in timers in it? What aboout some .bat? What if made some .bat that would launch hexen.exe and then movie.exe at right time like when start the game and then at each chapter?
  2. The video itself is not necessarily need to fit the DOS format, I just want the game remain as vanila as only possible, though. What about a port that can run HeXen like dosbox, 100% vanila, but play the video in original PS1's resolutions? Sad the DOS is a "no" in this one. Kinda weird, because both Blood, Chex, and even Duke Nukem's short cutscenes were run on DOS with no problem. Hell, I might be wrong, but even Captain Claw seemed to work on DOS while still playing these cartoons. Again, is there any port that would just play both vanila Hexen and vanila PS1's cutscenes? That's kinda sad... Well, thanks for your information! Anyway, the PS1 HeXen's maps are a tiny bit altered from the original HeXen. Would love if someone could port them for PC, though. :P
  3. Well yes, if something that came out later, it probably might get more stuff in it. Cutscenes were feel really fitting. Most of the HeXen's plot is after thought, though. For example, the "Korax" is supposed to be the Heresiarch, i.e. the red guy we see at the end of Heretic after beating the final boss. https://doom.fandom.com/wiki/Heresiarch But some time later the idea was scrapped.
  4. Well, SLIGHTLY modified mod\port which would only allow PS1's cutscenes to play is all good tho.
  5. Isn't chocolate mods the game? Like allow widescreen and other unnecessary features for new gen? Last time I tried to launch Strife on Chocolate, it didn't even display the NPC's conversation text, just their names. So porting these videos for DOS\PC is very hard? :( I don't mind a port, as long it remains as vanila as DOS or dosbox. Aside from PS1's emulators for PC, are there other ports that can run these formats, or perhaps some convector for these exist? Porting emulation of MDEC is not something possible?
  6. I doubt that Hexen cutscenes are anywhere better resolution than the one you're describing. Seems like perfect fitting for DOSbox, and fit in to it's framerate as well. 320x240 is absolutely my sort of thing. I'm not sure about the PS1 port, but the HeXen is at least 2 years earlier than Quake 2. Wish there was port that would at least get as close as DOSbox at least. I don't know about "sparing" use, but the cutscene for HeXen is pretty decent and fun.
  7. Gonna circle-strafe him to death, always works on big imps like cyberdemon.
  8. That's quite sad... I wouldn't really mind a tiny adjustment to the original .exe which doesn't change anything other than make the .exe play the cutscenes at the right time. None of that was ever done? Is it even possible?

Microsoft's GS Wavetable Synth is the best soundfont for Doom?

Interestingly, I've attached this Scc1t2.sf2 in both VirtualMIDISynth and in to GZDoom's FluidSynth's soundfont, and they both sound exactly the same. Which makes me curious, how exactly fluidsynth midi player is any different from any of the rest? Unfortunatelly, neither of these midi players managed to play Short Circuit properly, which makes me be curious if the song has some errors that weren't originally meant to be played by GS Wavetable Synth with it's soundfont.
  10. Good day everyone. Now please hear me out before flaming me fluidsynthers. There is a very weird thing I've found about GS Wavetable Synth, and that it's the only soundfont for doom that plays most, if not all doom midis without glitching, laging, swallowing certain notes, playing quiet notes way too loudly and especially playing them all properly. What I mean by playing properly? For example, that one track from Hell Revealed 2 on map09, the Short Circuit, which is my favourite of all HR2 OST, seem to be only playing properly on GS Wavetable Synth. There is one complicated part of this track where most notes can't be played properly and turn in to a unbearable mess. Luckily, I've found a few videos to give you a good comparison. Microsoft's GS Wavetable Synth: (02:57) Some other soundfont (probably fluidsynth): (02:53) As you can see, (or hear, actually), the GS Wavetable Synth is the only one that managed to play this one correct. Why? I have no idea. I've shown this comparison to a few of my other friends and asked if they get exact same result, they confirmed that GS Wavetable Synth is the only soundfont that plays it correct. I have no idea what gives, or why other soundfonts can't play this track properly. It's quite possible that most old school doom 1\2 mods were exclusively meant to be playing on GS Wavetable Synth rather than any others. Any idea why is this happening and what causes all of this?

Microsoft's GS Wavetable Synth is the best soundfont for Doom?

Is there any soundfont that is about as close to gm.dls as possible, or preferable gm.dls that is actually ported to .sf2? Considering it's not a hardware, I hope porting is not that should be considered impossible.

Microsoft's GS Wavetable Synth is the best soundfont for Doom?

Literally googled the coolsoft's VirtualMIDISynth just to find out there is no information about this subject - https://coolsoft.altervista.org/en/virtualmidisynth The README.htm file I found in folder just show me changelog between versions, so it's no help either. Looking in the options of VirtualMIDISynth program I've only found soundfont (банк звуков) and midi mapper, and if I add more soundfonts they will just replace the one from above to bottom, and in midi mapper I could select only two choices as well. so then I made this post. EDIT: after a long and intense googling on both languages, I've found a russian website with a much deeper informations on details that explained that "количество устройств" (roughly translated as "amount of hardwares") is actually a number of MIDI players I can use. Something that is very counter-intuitive to guess to begin with. So calling me lazy for not knowing that is rather rude at least.

Microsoft's GS Wavetable Synth is the best soundfont for Doom?

I've tried to put gm.dls in the soundfont folder, but for some reason my GZDoom 4.2.0 doesn't see it. What's the problem?? Also, I've just foundout that the FluidSynth says that it's "Not set", yet it still play musics by itself. What does that mean? And if I want it to set it back to default to "not set", what exactly I should do in this case? If you copy them into GZDoom's "soundfonts" folder, then yes. You can also use them with Timidity++ that way. No, I mean like, have multiple of VirtualMIDISynth like VirtualMIDISynth 1#, VirtualMIDISynth 2#, VirtualMIDISynth 3#, etc, each of which use it's own soundfont, and to be able to select these from GZDoom's MIDI Device. Sorry, should have said that more clearer. It seem like I having only one VirtualMIDISynth to choose from, and it seem to use only one soundfont, would like to have multiple of these so I could compare multiple soundfonts. At first my goal was to find the reason why that one particular song from map09 of Hell Revealed 2 sound only correct under Microsoft GS Wavetable Synth, and as well find a way to make FluidSynth play it properly, and as well have Microsoft GS Wavetable Synth for Android. Then I've learned that not only Microsoft GS Wavetable Synth is not a soundfont but some build-in program of Windows that cannot be extracted, but the soundfont it's uses is not even a soundfont a Doom soundtrack was designed for, but were designed for some shaitan mechanical box called "SC-55 mk.I" and that it's, somehow, impossible to close SC-55 mk.I with all of it's processing for PC. While the previous goals still stands, I'm more concerned as to find a way to replicate perfect close sounding SC-55 mk.I soundfonts for PC, and maybe midi players for it too.

    Doom: Annihilation update

And how's the gibberish you're talking about now is anywhere relevant to my original post? I have no idea how you managed to see a "biblical" hell in the post, considering I haven't said a word in to reference of it. I've literally just took the plot of the 2016's lore, where the "bad guy" is just one of the primordial powerful guys that you'd call a God, duh. Besides, what's not supernatural about setting things on fire by the power of will? I'd say it goes against our natural understanding of universe, thus it's super. I've also used a bit of Doom 3 lore, which id seem to confirm were done in same lore unvierse, where UAC just did open portal to another dimension with these super advanced Hi-Tech beast that have different biological structure than humans or any other being in this universe and thus being able to shoot fireballs, to say loosely. And thank God the id didn't take the non-sense biblical approach which would give the whole Doom lore a more of fantasy feel with it's linear "evil vs good" narrative, but rather give Sci-Fi genre to it, i.e. literally Science Fiction, a fictional Science which allows us to have parallel universes realm, maybe eve inter-dimensional realm with otherworldly (from other world, which has different physics, universe and probably entirely different from this, molecular universe) creatures; a fiction that obey to the rules of logic and common sense, of badass guys fighting other badass guys where we call one of the badass guy as just "bad guy", rather than straight up "satan vs god". A Science which allows the MAGIC, i.e. spiritual power of Mind which allows to bent reality, along side have power within which allows said creatures use pyrokinesis (shoot fire balls or light enemies on fire like archie), psychic telekinesis for levitation, etc, to be as real, explained, studied and physical as the gravity. All that besides the point, what one describes as "hell" doesn't matter at all in the slightest. What matter is, is that we want a lore where we fight otherwordly creatures, i.e. beings literally from another universe that have supernatural powers, i.e. powers that would be considered as super, beyond natural by the average human citizen. NOT a fucking bacterial infected and mutated "zombies" that we'd call a "demons" for whatever reason.

Microsoft's GS Wavetable Synth is the best soundfont for Doom?

Unfortunately that is true, I just tested captain claw with the soundfont you gave me, and the wind instruments sound like ass, which is weird because on GS Wavetable Synth it sound better. The music from the top of this thread, the Short Circuit from map09 of Hell Revealed, for some reason did sound worse on the soundfont you gave me than the original GS Wavetable Synth. Unfortunatelly, this isn't entirely true. The reason I just stated above, I have no idea why though. Hmm, well, I did install the MIDIMapper from the link you gave me anyway, I hope it does no harm. Yeah I just found this, I guess when I installed both of these softwares + sountfont, it automatically changed the system's default MIDI device to the one you gave me, but I managed to find out where to change it back. If I set multiple soundfonts, will I be able to see them all in GZDoom midi player selection in the sound menu? Yeah, it did actually some of the silent sounds\notes from the original Doom that couldn't do the sound canvas, but unfortunately for some reason it play wind instruments rather bad as i've found out that after trying the Captain Claw made by the Monolith, and it also play same bugged part of Short Circuit for some reason... :c If you know more soundfonts that are VERY close to original SC-55, please let me know. Is there a way to copy the soundfont that Microsoft's GS Wavetable Synth is using? I'd like to try the original soundfont given by Microsoft before using anything else. If you know how to get the original soundfont from Windows, please let me know how. I really want to try it out.

Microsoft's GS Wavetable Synth is the best soundfont for Doom?

Wow, thanks for your effort! So from your own experience, this PC software SC-55 does indeed sound exactly like "real" hardware Roland PC-55? At least, would you tell if both did play the "silent" instruments the proper - intended way, like shown in the video that the user TheUltimateDoomer666 provided to us a few posts above? But the primary reason I really want an perfect-clone of SC-55 emulator so I could play the oldschool doom mods that seem to play only properly under original SC-55 and seem to be were designed with the same intention. I really doubt the person from sc55.duke4.net will bother to upload all of the music packs from all of the possible doom mods, for obvious reason. I didn't knew that SC-55 Mk.II did sound differentfrom Mk.I, wow there is so much to learn. Thanks for the info. The problem is, I have Windows 7 (64) on this HDD, and on the website of MIDIMapper it said the software is for win 8, 8.1 or 10. When I tried to install the MIDIMapper, the installation said that "MIDIMapper is already available on this OS, will install only configurations", and so I did install these. So it's all good or I need to find another MIDIMapper for Windows 7? It's not as easy for me as you make it think... Considering I have zero knowledge about how midi players, their soundfonts and theirs softwares are working, I'm pretty much learning absolutely new things right this moment, it's very hard to follow your thoughts; and the fact the software I download uses different language than English is not helping it either... In fact, I had to google your abbreviations a few times in google to find no results just to realize after 10 minutes that what you mean by "VMS" is SEEM to stand for VirtualMIDISynth and MMC is MIDIMapper Configurator, lol. But I guess what is called the "Банк звуков" (roughly translates as the "bank of sounds") is what you meant by the Configurations > Soundfont. Either way, I've downloaded the Zip file you posted in the first link of yours... Picking up the .zip file end up the configuration do fails, and yet the .zip file consist of many small files and one huge file, so I wasn't sure if I needed to unzip these too. Some .sqlite file (no idea what that is) some .xml files (no idea what that is) and the biggest .sf2 file (no idea what that is, but I assume it's the soundfont). So I should just go to the Банк звуков, click the plus icon to add that .sf2 file, apply that item and here we go? Yes, I've read both of these websites in the links you gave me. Honestly, I wanted to have them both. The default vanila Window's GS Wavetable Synth (with whatever soundfont it uses) and the VirtualMIDISynth with the PERFECT clone of the real Roland SC-55 hardware. I hope it's something possible? I have trouble in understanding what you mean by "some mapping problems", as I'm not completely understanding what you mean by "mapping". Thus, I cannot understand what kind of "problems" you're talking about when you say this "this might fix some mapping problems VMS sometimes cannot overcome"; therefore I cannot yet know if I trully need to use the MIDIMapper Configuration. I'm sorry for being clingy. Well, I've put that .sf2 file from the zip from your original post in to Банк звуков, clicked apply, and now when I launch GZDoom I see can select the "VirtualMIDISynth 1#" (no idea what's the "1#" is there for. I wonder if I upload more soundfonts for this VirtualMIDISynth, will I get like "VirtualMIDISynth 2#", "VirtualMIDISynth 3#", etc?). I don't know if you can answer with your certainity, but from your own experience, the .sf2 file you gave for VirtualMIDISynth me does indeed sound exactly like real Roland SC-55?? If so, I guess it's the closest thing I can get it on PC. Aside from the already shitton some of the questions I'm asked, I think I have only two left. Is it possible for FluidSynth to use the SoundFont from either default Microsoft's GS Wavetable Synth, or the SoundFont you just gave me? Last question is, is it possible to install the SoundFont you gave me for the Android version of GZDoom? P.S. thanks a lot for trying to help me, I really appreciate it!

    Doom: Annihilation update

But what chance the plot will be taken in actual otherworldly supernatural 'inter-dimensional' realm created by one of the primordial supreme Gods where he grows his power to take revenge against other primordial supreme Gods, i.e. "Hell" ?

Microsoft's GS Wavetable Synth is the best soundfont for Doom?

Interesting... Have you done any comparison of this soundfont along with the one that Roland SC-55 provide, or the one that came with Windows's GS Wavetable Synth? Would you please tell me how would I isntall such interesting software while still having the original Microsoft's GS Wavetable Synth?? I'd really like give it a comparison with Doom's midis in GZDoom, just so I could tell if there is any differences.

whats your favorite doom 1 or 2 enemy?

Microsoft's GS Wavetable Synth is the best soundfont for Doom?

So the Virtual Sound Canvas is the one that makes any midi sound perfectly the same as if it was played on Roland SC-55?? So much perfectly identical that it would sound exactly like the "Real SC-55" from the video the user TheUltimateDoomer666 provided? Where can I get these Virtual Sound Canvas and what exactly would I have to do in order to make GZDoom play them?

Microsoft's GS Wavetable Synth is the best soundfont for Doom?

Are you saying there wasn't made a single software program which would emulate Roland SC-55 as close as it's only possible to be identical to original Roland SC-55 Synth on modern PC hardwares? What's so special about this mysterious outdated music box from 90's? Getting these are rather expensive nowadays, and so is delivery to the other side of the planet.

Microsoft's GS Wavetable Synth is the best soundfont for Doom?

Damned!!! Oh well, everyday you learn something new... And as a consequence of it, I get even more confused. Could you please tell me, how do I get exactly this "real SC-55" to play in my doom on PC and android, considering that "emulated" is not played the music the way is it intended to be played? Appears I just have the emulated SC-55, or whatever I even have, I have no idea.
  23. oh wow, that looks awesome. Looks like some of cyber and baron mix. But wait, does that mean that Icon of Sin is just another huge, supreme giant, just insanely enormous, oversized imp?

Microsoft's GS Wavetable Synth is the best soundfont for Doom?

I've tried all of the given midi players from GZDoom 4.2.0 to play that HR2's map09 midi song, and the only one that plays the song correct was Microsoft's GS Wavetable Synth. I have no idea why that is. Does all of the given GZDoom 4.2.0's midi players play only certain soundfont, while Microsoft's GS Wavetable Synth plays the one build in to Windows itself? Mister Graf Zahl, please enlighten me about the unsolved mystery that lies behind that sacred Short Circuit midi file, aka music from Hell Revealed 2's map9. I'm soooo confused right now and nobody seem to comment regarding that specific masterpiece unfortunately. So if I get it correct, GS Wavetable Synth using soundfont that is IDENTICAL to SC-55 in all way possible? Also, mind if I ask, why FMOD was removed from the latest versions of GZDoom? So... Nobody managed to port this "piece of windows" out as stand alone program yet? Well, that's a shame. So this soundfont is actually ripped off from the Windows, or it's just another soundfont made by someone that is 100% identical to the one default Window's is using? By the way, you wholeheartedly talking about using the original Windows MIDI sounds, are you the Sam Woodman by any chance?
  25. MaxRideWizardLord

Microsoft's GS Wavetable Synth is the best soundfont for Doom?

I don't get it. So GS Wavetable Synth = is actually midi player? So, what soundfonts does it REALLY uses? Also, why can't I install MS's GS Wavetable Synth on android? I'm so confused right now. All I want to find a way to make doom songs to play properly. To be precise, I want a soundfont and the midi player that can play that one song named "Short Circuit" from Hell Revealed 2's map09 like I've shown in the first video of this very thread's top. In order for me to achieve such thing, what would you recommend me to do in order to make my FluidSynth to play it properly on PC, and in order to make Delta-Touch'S GZDoom to play it properly on android?
