    The Age of Hell (megawad)

Damn I'm just checking these maps out for the first time and I love them. I can't wait to see more! I was working on some hell-themed maps for my WAD but my HDD failed upon my moving and it was unrecoverable by the data recovery people I tried. You've definitely given me inspiration to rebuild them and then some.

Sorry for the late reply, I had to fly out of state to another to sign up for classes since I'm moving. A lot of the ceiling and floor textures are just fillers to get a mood started while I progress in making the map. Also, I haven't set any brightness in the map yet but it will be different from what you see. I usually do geometry first, then texturize, then brightness, then monsters and items and all that good stuff. Sometimes I jump ahead and texturize some areas lightly while some ideas are fresh in my head, but I have about 6000 textures I sift through to make sure I have one that fits the best. I have never made a texture, just taken what I've seen from various wads and texture packs. You definitely see some Quake III and BTSX in the shots I took, along with some Wheel of Time and Anachronox. I've been checking out the Doom 3 texture pack for Doom 2 and I might even add more textures into the mix. I'm glad you like what you see so far, and I hope you and others stay tuned over the next month or 2 to see the final pics for map 9. I forgot to add I also converted all my maps to UDMF format so I'm still playing with some features in it, but I have a previous map I created posted around page 32 of this thread if you want to check out some of the work I've done prior. Map 8 was my baby so far lol.

Also, here's a brief but non detailed teaser for map 10 to give you an idea of the scale of the map. The acid bridge area is what you see if you look at the blueprint in my prior post. Again, the textures are just filler - it will not be a brown map. That is an imp in the distance, with a shotgun in front of it.

Alright, I know its been a long while but I have an update for you all. I am the author of a WIP called Descent Into Pandemonium and have been working on one giant map, which is now being split into 2 maps. The orange highlighted area is the first split of the map and is near completion...the non-highlighted area has barely been texturized and is still having architecture done, but that will be my 2nd split of course. Altogether this makes maps 9 and 10, with map 9 being around 10-20 mins of gameplay, and map 10 being about 40 mins or so of gameplay. I have also added a new skill mode to be released when map 9 is finished. The new skill mode adds hundreds of more monsters to each map for a chillax-like experience (more well rounded I think) and fits the large scale maps I create as an alternative to the normal amount of monsters per map. Great for Master of Puppets, other various mods, or just a grinding experience for those who want more challenge and more slaying. The pics for map 09 are obviously not final and have a lot of filler still. There is much more detailing left to do but that's about all I have left to do.

Only thing is I might not be able to follow deadlines exactly. I have college at the same time so it holds me back. If the deadline is 2 years I can make about 4 maps lol EDIT: 1024x 2048x might be too small for me though

I'd have to check them out, as I've only played Ancient Aliens briefly. Currently I have about 6000 textures to sift through for my current project, only using about 600-800 of them so far but it looks pretty colorful.

I'd be interested in working on a community project. Let me know if you go through with it and id be willing to make some amazing maps...just as long as the texture pallet is big enough for me to get creative with. If Esselfortium finishes BTSX E3 and releases his texture pack for the Doom community, I would definitely love to make a community project with those textures as well since there is so much that can be done with them. I've implemented them in my current wad Descent Into Pandemonium and it looks beautiful (as seen on page 32 of this thread).

I really like that Q3-ish skull texture on the walls. Been looking for something like that for my hell levels that I'm working on.

Thanks! It gets hard and is very tedious sifting through all the textures, I often have no idea what texture I want to use and have to experiment. I started a side project involving only vanilla textures and some textures that are vanilla-ish in design so that way I could push out levels faster, but I have so many things going on at once...wish I had time to push out more content.

Thanks, it took so long to do! The next maps I'm working on are Hell themed and I have some ideas I want to try out.

Thanks! And yeah, I'm new to uploading stuff on here so I hope I didn't go too overboard. I'll look into imgur; I've only used 1 image hosting site before but it was a free trial and then it expired lol.

A bunch of my images failed to upload, but hopefully you enjoy the shots I've taken
