What's with this Doom 64 fanatism?
Is it really that good? Or is it just another Doomworld meme? Should I, like, try the damn thing out?
-
Doom 64 is certainly an underrated game but all of the people who played the game gave nothing but good reviews.
-
Don't trust these dishonest individuals. They're just trying to trick you into playing something unworthy of your time.
-
People do not really like Doom 64, it's all just a huge joke, like the people who pretend to like Barney's Hide and Seek.

One third of 2017 has passed.
What the hell?

"One sixth of this century has passed too"
That reminded me of this..."One sixth of the puzzle has been solved...in the 21th Century"

TFW you have to tell someone from IRL your e-mail...
smb: "I'll send you an e-mail, what's your address?"
bzzrak: "UMMMMMM THAT'S A BIT COMPLICATED"
- "Huh what do you mean?"
- "The address itself, it's complicated"
- "Don't be a sissy, tell me"
- "Bee Zed Zed Are Ey Key Dot..."
- *collapses*
- "you've been warned"
2edgy4life, that's me.

I just remembered that I do have an e-mail with my real name that I registered when I was 11 or so...
I've just checked, it's still there... I've apparently been receiving "spam" from Facebook for all those years... I have to get around to cleaning it up one day.
Windows Live has changed quite a bit, yeah. M$ is living up to its nickname.

Bzzrak's Risen3Dification, part 4:
Remember that last rant about the sucky node-builder? Well, I've found a work-around, sort of. If the node-builder is being a naughty assface as usual, select some random linedefs around the place that is glitching, and press Shift+S (split linedef in DB2).
It might work. No warranty provided.
I hate being forced to do that just in order for my map to not have HOMs caused by the horrible node-builder, though.
----------
I'm starting to feel like I understand what I'm doing, that can't be good.
Slowly figuring out scripts. It is hard, but it does feel like something that makes some sense, unlike the 3D floor features.
You've got map Things ("script spots"), and when you trigger some linedefs (which are connected to the script spots via "linedef spots" -- also map Things), stuff happens. After you figure out some concepts, it does start to feel like something usable. Or my brain is becoming something unusable, I'm not quite sure.
One thing that does feel very refreshing is the lack of a palette. YAY I can use YELLOW and PURPLE textures as much as I want!
The map itself though... I haven't recovered yet from the impact of my philosophical semi-trollmap on my mapping style. An ambush with 20 Barons and a switch behind that kills them all, that's so much demonstrating the port's features.
To summarise:
It'll be great if this actually ends up in DMP2017.
I'm amazed with my persistence, TBH.
Thank you for devoting your time to reading some total stranger's rant about a niche Doom source-port and its influence on that stranger's mental health. :]

Bzzrak's Risenation3D, part 3.25
Another thing about Risen3D that can backstab you quite frequently is the node-builder. As far as I can tell, R3D has a built in node-builder derived from an old-ass version of GLBSP (2.05 IIRC, while the last one was 2.20-sth, released quite a few years later).
That thing breaks very easily. The R3D editing process is very brainpower-consuming by itself, now I have to care about the GODDAMN NODE-BUILDER?
Just let me draw goddamn vertices where I want to, for god's sake, and don't make me think about whether the stupid node-builder can make the map look as I want it to.
Jeff Bird (the origwad author) would be proud... or probably not.
Rantification finishification.

Bzzrak's Risening3D, part 3
OK, I have been studying a bit of scripting and everything, now I do understand it a little more than I should. Drawing linedefs on top of each other is still a difficult concept to grasp for my stupid brain, especially when coupled with having to manually edit sector references. Darn, this is HARD! As the properties of a 3d floor are specified in upper textures, if you have a height difference which requires an actual upper texture, you have to draw a separate set of linedefs only for the 3d floor, and then mess with sector references until you die of boredom.
The result of all that: I've started making the actual map... the problem is: after my previous philosophical and conceptual semi-trollmap, I've completely forgotten how to do legit awesome mapping. Not that I ever knew it, but I did try. Now I've forgotten how to do even that.
I do crap I never did before, like making circular rooms. The worst part: the radius of every one is a multiply of 82, because when made into a circle in db2's curve linedefs option, you get a curve whose total length is a multiple of 256.
But... I HATE circular rooms!!! What's happening? My orthogonality seems to "wrap around"!
But yeah, the map is gonna be something really sensational if/when finished.
Conclusion: people, don't make philosophical semi-trollmaps.

Owwwww... why, it was a funny thread.

Bzzrak's Risen3D rants, part 2
How to have 3D floors on top of each other in Risen3D?
You literally draw sectors on top of each other! (you have to disable merging vertices in DB2 before that)
So... if you wanna have 3 platforms above each other, you literally draw 3 sectors on the same goddamn place, then you utterly destroy your brain trying to figure out what sector does each linedef belong to, and study the demo WADs to death just in order to check what sector should each sidedef reference to.
It's literally impossible to figure how do some features work. And I haven't even got to studying scripting yet.
Dear god.
However, a feature I will compliment is that if you mess something up and run the map, the port will crash and tell you exactly what should be fixed.
I use that one a lot, heh.
The worst part is that I asked4it myself. For 2018, would a 3DGE map be troll-y enough?
-
tl;dr -- Risen3D mapping is tough, but I Am Tougher
I've been studying Risen3D for some more yesterday, I'm actually starting to understand something. It takes a lot of time though, and I haven't even started actually mapping yet.
Some decisions really don't make any sense, both regarding the editing features and the port itself.
If I somehow endure this ultimate test to my mental capacity, I might write some tutorials in the corresponding subforum, so that future generations of ZDoom trolls have an easier time.

Mobile-friendly my ass.
On Opera Mini for Android, I can't open the goddamn post box. If the masterminds behind Invision or whatever it's called expect me to waste 153 MB of bandwidth to load a single goddamn page and use that chromy garbage, then tough luck, that's not happening.
Rant over, no offence to anyone. Except to Google.
-
unnecessary blogpost rant warning:
I didn't sleep at all yesterday tonight, as I was too busy with mapping. I'm not a nerd right? Eventually I did get 40 minutes of sleep... damn, I wish I didn't, I've never felt that strange in all my life. I felt too weak to speak.
Someone's obviously living life the wrong way, I can't imagine how it will look when I get a job or something.
Good thing though, the map is 75% done after only 3 days of work! That beats my previous record by a large margin.
BTW, I will be offline between tomorrow and next Saturday, so yeah... one shitposter less. Maybe I can get some sleep too.
R a n t over.

Hi, does anyone have a better resolution pic of Post Hell Fredrik? This one was cropped from a screenshot and of course looks like ass, especially with the bigger avatars. T H A N K Y O U
