I'm not sure. Without the outline it looks more natural, but the outline makes the head stand out from the rest of the HUD.

Very nice. That's a huge improvement.

games with guns that have underwhelming designs and sounds
Manuel-K replied to Avoozl's topic in Everything Else
It's interesting how highly subjective sound design is. I love Quake 1's sounds and (non xp) music. Quake 3's sounds. Doom 1/2's sounds are great, too. Half-Life 1 has some good sounds as well (and I hate that Black Mesa has different sounds). IMO the game with the most disappointing weapon sounds is Doom 3. The pistol, the machine gun and the shotgun sound incredible weak. Duke3d's pistol sounds horrible – although all sounds in the game suffers from the heavy compression. -
Ditto. I would install it now if I wasn't so tired.

That's a good idea. Without some kind of checkpoints it would be unbearable. I'm still not convinced that permadeath works for games with a static enemy/item/geometry layout… but it's easy to play any game as if it had permadeath, so I'm not sure that it's worth the effort to implement it in the game.

Same question – same answer. GZDoom, DOOM Retro and Zandronum. I don't want to reiterate the reasons.

Doom 2 Minor Sprite Fixing Project - v2.0 Release (updated 11/28/22)

That's the first thing I do each time you release a new version. Glowing textures might seem like a good idea at first, but they break too many levels. -
Doom 2 Minor Sprite Fixing Project - v2.0 Release (updated 11/28/22)
Manuel-K replied to Revenant100's topic in Mods & Resources
@kb1 I would ignore the tricky ones and focus on fixing the bulk first. The basic cases should be easy to fix automatically. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/KISS_principle ;-) -
I hate that part of the game because it complicates inventory management considerably. If you have a good weapon you have to keep a stash of compatible weapons to keep it working. IMO that mechanic only leads to more grinding – one of the reasons I did not finish the game.

In my experience almost everybody refuses to do troubleshooting of any kind. They are too lazy and/or too scared that it's too complicated. That's one of the reasons why Steam is so successful – most people do not know how to install updates or even how to copy files without misusing the save as dialog of a word processor. It's really frustrating.

FreeSpace 2? There are a bazillion user-created campaigns of amazing quality.

So I couldn't help myself and just watched a little bit of Dime's stream… it's like the Evolution of the WAD videos: Tarnsman's volume is too low :-( Less than two hours in my timezone. -
What's you opinion on weapon/apparel breakage and repair? Do you like it? Tolerate it? Hate it?

I'll assume that this isn't a joke. Otherwise it would be in very bad taste… -
Still not done with “Fallout 4” and “Cook, Serve, Delicious 2”. And I've somehow managed to start “The Witcher 3”. All hope is lost…

Yay.

So… this thread made me think about reinstalling F.E.A.R. until I read the recent thread about modern shooters which reminded me about the annoying weapon limit. I hate that. It keeps me from using the special guns with sparse ammo because you have to give up the bread and butter guns.
-
Right. The combat is a lot better in Skyrim (and in Fallout 4) compared to the predecessors. Morrowind's chance to hit and fatigue mechanics are annoying. Item health may be nice from a role-playing perspective, but in reality it's a tedious grind that sucks the fun out of the game (that's even worse in Fallout 3/New Vegas). At least Skyrim does not have Fallout 4's horrible dialogue wheel…

“Fallout 4” and the absolutely evil “Cook, Serve, Delicious! 2!!”.

Without the DRM they could not take the game away. You claim that it would not make sense to remove a game from the account, but they have done that in the past e.g. Order of War (@CARRiON's post).
-
Why should DRM make sense? It is only designed to restrict access to stuff you bought.
-
@Jon It seems to be a mixture of everything. I've read that they will make the source code publicly available, that they've made a license agreement with Ken Silverman and (almost) all eduke32 developers are involved in Ion Maiden. Richard Gobeille is the game's “director”.

Descent had a rear-view feature. It looks like a mixture of Quake, Hard Reset and Strife to me. I agree that it looks stunning, but I'm not sure how fast that colour palette would become annoying.
