DOS box for doom is trash, change my mind.

That's why you buy retro PC games from GOG! And really, setting up DOSBox is miles easier than trying to set up an actual MS-DOS or Win9.x machine. Since there was no real standard for PC game design, every game having its own config is better off anyways. I've been messing with PCem the last couple of days and I already ran into issues just trying to get the machine I "built" to use the damn boot floppy to install Windows 95. Followed by lovely driver issues. Ahh, memories. So count your blessings!

Things about Doom you just found out

Why would you be glad a bonus that others enjoy searching for and that doesn't necessarily affect you if you choose to ignore it is killed off?

Huh, I knew about some of this, but I didn't know about the limit command or the estimated CPU type cycles. That's pretty awesome! Thanks for sharing this info!
  6. After playing and beating Command & Conquer 4 and seeing that last cutscene spit on 15 years or so of story I broke the disc, stabbed the box and went to bed depressed.

DOS box for doom is trash, change my mind.

So funny I see this since I've been going through DOOM II using DOSBox, keyboard only, default controls and honestly it makes me feel all warm and fuzzy playing like this again. Edit: Am also going through Blood, Carmageddon and Duke3D like this with DOSBox too. Honestly I've been using DOSBox since 2007 or 2008 and I've never really had any problems with it. It's probably my most used emulator.

What did Sandy Petersen mean by this room in MAP13?

The imagery of a very flustered, pissed off Sandy Peterson slamming his mouse down on his desk and proclaiming loudly "AH TO HELL WITH THIS!" while staring intensely at his monitor made me laugh harder then it really should have... Maybe this genuine moment of pure hatred is what led to him beckoning the Great Old One to manifest the evil and dark creation that is the Chasm.
  9. I think I did something similar, so I found a loophole instead. Right before you go to see the rocket, I found an object on the floor, a box or a bottle or something? I picked the object up and opened the console and typed in "ent_setname gnome" without the quotes, and it should say something like "property changed to gnome" or something. After that, put the object in the rocket, close the door, and you should still get the achievement. lol. Otherwise, I've 100%'d everything else in HL2 and both its episodes legit. Neighborhood Watch was kinda tough, I needed a map with Strider routes. I also 100%'d Portal and I remember the advanced maps giving me a lot of grief. This one is notoriously BS because if a civilian kills themselves or an enemy kills one you won't get it. There's an exploit for this one too. IIRC If you go to the game's folder, go into the res folder, then the levels folder, you'll find a "realms.ini" or something akin to that. Back it up, and go into it, and just change the first realms level "ehome.rlm" to "hschool.rlm". Launch the game, start it on easy, and you'll be at the end and it'll give you the achievement. EDIT: Actually I think you just cut all the realms down to the very end level. I honestly can't exactly remember though. All I know is this 'cheevo pissed me off and I exploited it lol. Both of these exploits were found on the Steam Guides section. Otherwise, if the game doesn't have a ton of bullshit or MP-only achievements I'll try to 100% it. Hotline Miami was a fun one to 100% but I had that game down to a science. Risk of Rain was pretty tough but not *as* tough as I thought it would be, and the in-game percentage meter is glitched lol. I'm a few away from 100% on DOOM 2016 but honestly the last two are MP related and they're a grind so idk if I'll pursue them. I used to be obsessive about achievements but it got to a point where I was just stressing myself out more than having fun so now I only 100% games that seem worthy of my efforts.
  10. When you take into consideration that the first Star Wars was released in 1977, I personally don't see how it's hard to understand why sci-fi fans gravitated towards it. It was slick and big budget, the cast was very likable, it took lots of inspirations and ideas from other popular film before it, and the scope of it all just feels... really really huge and brimming with potential, which is why the expanded universe stuff for it pretty much exploded from the get-go. Plus, I mean, you have space knights with magical powers duking it out with each other as space nazis try to take everything over in the background. Hopping around planets and seeing their different ecosystems and wild life and intelligent life is pretty fascinating, especially when it's all cohesive and feels like it "makes sense". It makes the whole adventure feel convincingly big. Ultimately I think it just inspired a sense of wonder and intrigue in people, I saw it well after the fact as a child and it still enthralled me completely. Anything that creates a solid, cohesive world with the potential for expanded lore can easily attract a fanbase, plus it kinda came out at the right time when it did, making it a spectacle to watch in the late 70's/early 80's and hooking guaranteed for life fans. I haven't personally watched any of the Disney Star Wars movies, I don't know when I'll get to them, but all the talk surrounding them has admittedly made me push them down the ladder of movies I want to see next, plus the prequels didn't inspire confidence from me in future films. I tend to agree that the expanded lore does the universe far, far more justice than the official sequels did.

@tempdecal.wad So many memories of playing the original They Hunger mod for Half-Life, all from a PC Gamer disc. I actually had completely forgotten they continued it.

    Nightdive Teasing Blood

It cost so much that both NightDive and Devolver said hell no. I think the actual number value leaked somewhere. Honestly, your answer is probably the most simple. Atari isn't exactly rolling in money (they filed for bankruptcy in 2013), and they know exactly what they have and how many people want it. I wouldn't exactly say it has zero financial value to them.

How do you deal with a bad day?

A cigarette a beer and my music at volume 11. I consider it a bad day when it drains my fucks down to zero.

    Nightdive Teasing Blood

Did they actually take the original System Shock off Steam? I got it with mine when I bought Enhanced Edition. SteamDB seems to indicate it's still included. Even if that was the case, you can always grab the original by... other means. If you're so inclined.
