Well usually art books have lore to go with it, like the diablo ones. But to me 2 books are better than one :)

When Doom looks more cartoony than Serious Sam...
massivefanofdoom replied to Tetzlaff's topic in Doom Eternal
Exactly!!!! Diablo and doom are my 2 favs of all time and there are tons of similarities in the lore and 'art' style, nothing comes close to the classical demonic design ala LOTR balrog like doom and diablo. Maybe hexen/heretic. Just like you also, i thought diablo 3 was horrible. (Well, at least you allude to it, even though you don't explicitly say it. Amirite?) I have not tried those games no, I will check them out thanks. -
When Doom looks more cartoony than Serious Sam...

Heh, its weird I used to play a lot of games and now nothing interests me but Doom. That is why for the first 2 days of the delay announcement I was a bit upset more than others perhaps, as I don't have a lot of variety in gaming, well I don't have the time anyway. But today's games, (to me, I don't want to piss anyone off) just don't feel great, lack soul to me. The graphics are amazing, but classics like hexen, heretic, blood, diablo, command and conquer, TA, resident evil et al can't be replicated anymore. The sequels / remakes are worse in most instances. Doom is an exception, Doom 2016 had me like a kid again. Its probably me being old and nostalgic :) -

I will change the name, ppl have been hounding me on it :( No I love the franchise as much as anyone else (its the only game i play - imagine i change pcs every 3-4 years and now ive been doing it only for doom, cuz the diablo franchise has to win me back), and if you like doom3, more power to ya. -
Everything is so great in this game, tnx for all the info. I like linearity in doom, but some people would much prefer the foundry style levels, and I don't fault them at all. But guys, we will be nonetheless very happy with final product no doubt. I love how the monsters are more challenging now and each one really has its role and strategy and ways to bring it down more than d2016, and I love especially how harder and more aggro the barons and hell knights have become. Ive been hearing the arachnotron is TOUGH!

I get ya dude, thanks -
Could be, the suit in fact looks like the new version even though its missing flamethrower, predator cannon, blade etc. But then then question would be are the night sentinels revived? I guess there was never a mention of them being exterminated in full. Maybe they ended up like refugees in hell/heaven/whatever dimension, waiting to recoup and consolidate their power and numbers and for the doomslayer to return. Let's not even try think how dragons end up in the picture. Alternatively, this could be during the war for argent d'nur and that priest/cultist/whatever he is on the left is Deag Grav, trying to offer some fake peace treaty or terms of surrender., or just a messenger boy for the forces of hell ala mouth of sauron. Or he is the betrayer, or the wretch.

When Doom looks more cartoony than Serious Sam...
massivefanofdoom replied to Tetzlaff's topic in Doom Eternal
Yeah that's fair enough. You win, I lose. I still do not like doom3 though. A lot of people seem to enjoy it. For me, it detracts from the overall feel going from doom1 to doom2016, it feels out of place and I never liked it. To each his own. -
Nice info! Does the lost soul dropping like a rock feel as strange as it sounds? Like, its a fast projectile damage or its thrown slowly and then the drop is awkward?

When Doom looks more cartoony than Serious Sam...
massivefanofdoom replied to Tetzlaff's topic in Doom Eternal
Winter sucks, I did say its banter and not to take it personal, and the analogy does make sense (darkness vs color, d3 vs doom 2016) You said it yourself, ''thats about it''. Nothing realistic about it, this isnt COD. Now the phrase used i believe was a ''realistic doom experience'' which is different to 'realistic' by definition in the dictionary. That to me would mean how faithful to the origins of the series the game in question would be, even if it had unicorns and bunnies .... owait, it had the latter! -
When Doom looks more cartoony than Serious Sam...
massivefanofdoom replied to Tetzlaff's topic in Doom Eternal
Well none of doom is 'realistic' as it features demons and monsters and mass people living on mars and artifacts and weapons not ever invented (yet). So you're making zero sense 'I prefer doom3 cuz its more realistic durr' ... if you're going by the definition of realistic as you would look it up in the dictionary, which you obviously are. Now if we are going by the definition of realistic as 'how realistic it is to the origins of the series', then it isn't at all. It's like the big flop in the series for me, even though it may have done well financially, it lost the heart of doom which is action. -
That pic is epic. I wonder where in the timeline it takes place.

When Doom looks more cartoony than Serious Sam...
massivefanofdoom replied to Tetzlaff's topic in Doom Eternal
Oh less cartoony alright .... it was darker than Ted Bundy's basement. But i guess ppl who prefer winter over summer must be the same ppl who prefer d3 over d1/2/final or even think its a classic (just my opinion and some banter, nothing personal to all who love d3 or winter :) ) -

Doom 3 was horrible. Realistic doom experience? Ever played doom or doom2? Its like a totally different game. Trying to mix action paced fps with slower bits, too much story, horror and other genre elements. And grey and black everywhere. -

I laughed so hard at the blondes bit, quality comedy. Id are gonna make a warning on the box 'NOT FOR BLONDES' like that yorkie chocolate years back. SJW everywhere gonna rage. PS I love the colors, I have no issue with the gore. To each his own though. -
Work overtime and anything thats left patch it, it's not like id is a company that will vanish and never support the game. You act as if this hasn't been done before, or that nowadays we don't have lightning fast internet to dl any updates in an instant. Alternatively, don't change a release date a month away and piss off retailers, shippers, customers et al. There's no excuse, its bad pr for id. It didn't dawn on them recently that they should change the release date and that they were behind schedule, they just let their ego take over and acted on it now that the boiler cooker is ringing and the pressure is reaching max, and looked highly unprofessional in the process. As for 'deal with it', yeah I have no other option but to wait, obviously. I'm already over it, I was disappointed for the first 2 days as a lot of ppl and mostly mad they cost me money and time off work. This is similar to when big boxing matches are made and then cancelled, and you spent money on travel expenses and booked time off work. You're always gonna be mad for a day or two, its inevitable.

Wow, that takes me way back. George Broussard, lol. Anyway thanks for the info, I hope you're right. I have to check if the art of doom eternal is limited quantity, even though I'm probably not getting it now anyways as I spent way too much. EDIT: I really think they are the same, the cover is the same as the 'artbook collectors edition limited to 666 copies', I guess they made extra copies for the CEs or the CE ones are included in the 666 copies. And also, artwork by gabz and partnered with mondo. I guess if they said in the CE it has 192 pages as well that would confirm it. They're out of stock already in both bethesda and bethesda.eu store anyways.

They cant release a rushed and broken game, no. I'm not acting entitled, I'm acting very disappointed in a A+++ company with lots of experience moving the date back very little before release. I guess I'm an exception, having spent a lot of money early when I couldn't really afford right now (that answer your question if im a fan or not?) and took a chunk of time off work (this seems to be the most common complaint, I guess if you havent done it it wouldnt bother you - I can reverse it perhaps, but I'll look like an idiot - and no, I dont get a lot of time playing games or posting on the internet, so if you have that luxury as a 12-20yo+ age gap person without many commitments more power to you) I'm human, some stuff bothers me and disappoints me and sometimes I moan. But entitled? No. Take till 2057 for all I care, make sure if you tell me 2057 its 2057. ''you sure don't seem to care much for the people who actually make the games.'' --> I don't even know them personally, I shelled a lot of money to them though and so have literally / potentially millions of other ppl, I'm sure they'll be fine. You're supposed to take care of your customer too, it was a clusterfuck. Disorganised and very unusual of id who have no problem letting us wait a millennium if they have to.

Very unprofessional from id. I cant understand how a month away from release they postpone half a year further. Uncoordinated and unprofessional for sure. This is id we're talking about, very experienced team with games. And I SHOULD, as well as others, be disappointed and pissed. I preordered and got ce, and putting together a new pc, spent a lot when i was financially insecure and it seemed very limited, and now it seems its everywhere, and preorder has a longer time window. And took a vacation and 2 weeks off work, like many others. Now i hear d64 is free with preorders, i hope its free with all preorders and not new ones only. I preordered the deluxe on steam. And im sick of ppl saying 'Take as much time as you need id', hell no take only as much as necessary and hurry that sheesh up, free of bugs and in good condition. You committed to a nov release date back in june and a month away you change it? And who was that person on here who had a hunch of this quite a while ago? An insider perhaps? I hope we dont get some internal struggle or development hell scenario and this game is effed as I will slit my wrists. I do not like that post only a month away from release, sounds too vague and somethings fishy...Duke nukem forever and doom eternal, the name jinxing continues. PS Does anyone know if the CE artbook and 'Art of Doom eternal' are the same??

Doom Eternal's campaign is around 18-22 hours long, Marty says
massivefanofdoom replied to Varis Alpha's topic in Doom Eternal
I wonder if in Doom Eternal itself we will get any explanation on how Doomslayer returned back to Earth/Mars from wherever he was banished to and how he got rid of the tether (maybe thats what 'upgrading' the suit is all about?) And about hayden and the crucible as well. Also, that picture with the dragons and mech/titans .... ??? Not sure what they mean by new perspectives and new ways to play either -
I would assume the pc i bought for doom 2016 should be ok still i7 6700k 4ghz 16 gb ram GTX 980Ti Gaming 5 Asus z170x

Is it the same as the artbook in the collectors edition?
-
That's an understatement!!! Especially after seeing that battle wallpaper and that colossal thing moving, And dragons, hexen style mages etc
-
Night Sentinels and dragons and cyber tanks, oh my
massivefanofdoom replied to Linguica's topic in Doom Eternal
Also, thats deag grav near the slayer. And those dragons had a leader named the 'Great serpent' perhaps, thats was killed by the 'Guardian'? Pieces coming together .... cant wait till Quake con!!!!
