The Metal / Rock Music Fans

I forgot how I found this band but they're pretty cool. They're a sludge metal/crust punk hybrid. The lyrics are political and somewhat depressing but sometimes they can get corny like in Slaved Chains.

    Pokemon Go, opinions?

I haven't been a Pokemon fan for a long time, so this doesn't interest me too much but I'm glad other people are enjoying it. I think it would be cool if they did some sort of AR game with Animal Crossing eventually. I love the concept of Animal Crossing, the characters are very charming and cute and the atmosphere is super comfy, but I get bored when I actually play it. Oh, come on now. It's only a little mobile game. Just because a few people go overboard with it doesn't mean everyone who plays it will.

    Favourite Doom sound?

Oh, my bad, for some reason I thought you were making fun of them. I totally agree, they are my favorite Doom enemy for sure! I agree with you Camahueto, that "unf" sound is another classic Doom sound effect. The Pain Elemental's pain face is pretty funny too.

    Favourite Doom sound?

It's the way they say it that makes it cute. Come on, I can't be the only one who loves the Pain Elementals!

    Doomguy versus Mega Man

oh yea motherfukker my dad is in the military and five finger deth punch and hes a police officer to so i wouldnt count on it :) Seriously though, I realize this hypothetical battle is pretty stupid, but that's why I put it in blogs and not Doom general or something. It's just for fun Edit: I could have sworn that I posted this in blogs, but for some reason it's displaying in Everything Else. I guess I'm still not familiar enough with Doomworld to know why this happened, but oh well. Sorry to anybody who saw this lame thread in Everything Else. It was meant to be a silly little blog thing for fun.

    The Little Things Thread

Sorry that this is not related to the single-player campaign, but I appreciate how if you toggle the mute all option on in multiplayer it automatically mutes any incoming players as well. I hate having to pause the action in CoD just because one new guy joined the game.

    I'm not good enough at Doom to win and honor my god ;_;

    Favourite Doom sound?

The revenant's legendary sight sound is definitely up there. I also love the sounds when you shoot the SSG or BFG. Another good one is "oremoR nhoJ em llik tsum uoy emag eht niw ot" This is probably weird but I think the noise the Pain Elemental makes when you shoot it is really cute. That's probably my favorite Doom sound, honestly.

Nice, nice. Some good stuff in there. Can't say I've heard of Biohazard, though. I'll have to look them up. Because it has characteristics that are different from many other subgenres of metal and it's beneficial to those who like that style to categorize it.

I mostly agree with RUSH. The only point I disagree with them on is the speed metal thing, I don't think it's any less useful than the other niche subgenres like death 'n' roll. Now of course stuff like pirate metal and a lot of the random -cores like spacecore or something are just ridiculous, but there is definitely a need for classifications such as black metal, death metal, thrash metal, and so on. Megadeth is thrash metal, for example, but imagine there were no subgenres and all you could call it was metal. You could go online and ask for metal recommendations but it wouldn't help you much, as a Megadeth fan, when people suggest Blind Guardian or Leviathan. And don't even get me started on the whole nu-metal and metalcore thing. Also, Heracross, out of curiosity, what bands do you like? You don't seem to enjoy extreme metal or the lighter power metal stuff so I'm just wondering.

If you like Wintersun you might be interested in Järi's pre-Wintersun and pre-Ensiferum band Immemorial. They only released one demo, but I think it's mostly enjoyable. There are even a few early versions of Wintersun songs. Again, this is not a Wintersun release. I don't know why the uploader used Wintersun cover art for the video, but I just want to clarify this is not Wintersun, it's Immemorial.

Yeah that's true. I've never played Quake so that factoid slips out of my mind easily. I'll probably begin with whichever album their debut is. I don't mind if it's not as heavy as long as it's good.

I liked the NIN cover of I'm Afraid of Americans. I really should get around to listening to NIN sometime, all I know about them is from Doom and Beavis & Butt-Head.

If you like that you'll likely enjoy Exhorder's cover of Into the Void. For that matter, if you think Pantera is one of the greatest bands ever, you'll almost definitely like everything in Exhorder's small discography. They were a huge influence on Pantera and it shows. While we're on the subject of covers, what are some of everyone's favorites? I know most people tend to prefer the originals (and rightfully so,) but there are some songs that sound really great in another band's style. Sepultura had some good covers back in the Max Cavalera days: And speaking of Sepultura, here's a good cover of Refuse/Resist by the Brazilian death metal band Krisiun: Last but not least, I'm sure everyone is sick of my constant fawning over Volbeat, but this is my favorite cover of anything by any band ever.

I was never super into extreme metal. The most obscure band I know is probably Dominus. That being said I still enjoy it and will always give an extreme metal band a shot when I have the time. Lately, though, I've been listening to my favorite bands and not branching out much. I find it's hard to truly get into new bands, as I'm not the kind of person who can speed through a band's discography in a week and appreciate it. It takes me about a month or so just to fully get into one album, with rare exceptions. It sucks but at least I never get sick of the music I already love.

Pantera isn't bad. I know they get a lot of hate from more extreme metalheads, which I can kind of understand, but I listened to them a lot when I was first getting into metal. Pantera is one of those cases where, for me, their music is good but the music they influenced is not too great. I think Exhorder is better, but that's just me, and they're both fine bands. As for Slayer, I also have not listened to them in some time. I oughta give South of Heaven another listen sometime, that one used to be my favorite.

Not to sound rude or anything, I really don't want to start a fight and I know how heated genre discussions can get, but Pantera is a well-known groove metal band. I'm listening to Powerwolf for the first time because I've heard they are similar to Sabaton. So far, I don't hear a lot of similarities, but I'm enjoying it nonetheless. The album I chose to start with is Lupus Dei. I like the cover artwork. I don't know why exactly, it just looks nice.

what are you working on? I wanna see your wads.

Thanks for the advice, Fonze. Sorry to reply to this thread without any pics but I just wanted to let you know I'm keeping your criticism in mind and redesigning certain areas of my map. Hopefully the next time I have some pictures to share the map will look more fun and challenging to play.

Favorite Band and Song By Them

Easy one for me. Also, great choice, Eris Falling. Sabaton is a really cool band. I don't usually listen to power metal but Sabaton stands out among the rest, I think.

what are you working on? I wanna see your wads.

Ah, still an interesting concept for a wad, and an interesting setting for a level. I look forward to playing it! Anyhow, to contribute to the main point of the thread, I've done some work on my own Doom map since I first posted it here. Probably nothing too groundbreaking, but it's the first map I've made (or am making) so hopefully it'll give me experience if nothing else. Right now I'm trying to focus on the difficulty, I think it may be a bit too hard unless you find the secrets, so I'll definitely work on that. If you see any glaring issues or have some constructive criticism, I'm all ears.

I really like those Heretic shots, it looks like a wild west desert canyon type of thing, definitely a very cool and unique atmosphere for a Heretic wad!

Doomkid, this isn't exactly what you're looking for, but it's the first thing that came to mind. Now I know most of the people here are probably gonna read this and think "eugh, Volbeat, aren't they some shitty radio metal band," but trust me, these are the guys you want to be representing metal on the radio. Their first 3 albums are brilliant mixtures of rockabilly, classic country, and heavy metal. I know that sounds like a train wreck on paper, but Volbeat executes it really well, in my opinion. I could just be biased since they are my favorite band, but I really do like what these guys do and I think they're the only good "radio metal" band (for lack of a better term) that has popped up over the last few years. If you don't like Volbeat, you might like their founding frontman's previous band Dominus, which played a variety of genres. Their debut album, for example, was straight-up death metal, but the following release The First 9 was death 'n' roll. Anyways, give this a shot if you feel like it. I hope you enjoy it as much as I do. Also, Elvis Presley fans might notice something about the lyrics of that song. ;)

    New Doom Products (Collectibles)

I can see where you're coming from with the tacky box art t-shirt thing, but somehow, I don't mind them. I think it's a better way of showing your love for something than just lame promo art or some dorky, unfunny joke.
