I just got Hexen yesterday and I found a portal that seems only reachable by crouching and walking under a little tunnel. I want to know if crouching was allowed in vanilla Hexen so I know I'm not cheating.

How do you prefer to play Doom and why? I play in 16:9 with the status bar enabled -specially when it's a customized bar that comes with the wad like Alien Vendetta and Ancient Aliens.

4:3 or 16:9? With or without the status bar?

Hello, everyone! I really like the intentions of the Freedoom project, so I wanted to help with something. Some of the things I consider affect the game experience are the monsters' groans, which aren't as creepy as Doom's, so I used Audacity to make zombie soldiers' groans sound more like a lich. https://www.dropbox.com/sh/sup37xpzjg00cfn/AAAPn5Uyn-ghE7JL5Ma9vM5Za?dl=0 You can find there the .wav files and the original .aup files as well. I've just made what this tutorial said, with some variations in the Reverb: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=D4o81aYFu68 So what do you think?

I've made zombies' groans more terrifying
ThePetitDwarf replied to ThePetitDwarf's topic in Freedoom
Ok. I'm gonna try to make this be a thing in Freedoom. Or at least convince a real sound engineer to perform the groans in the process. -

...is there a 21:9 aspect ratio? -
Ancient Aliens - final version on idgames
ThePetitDwarf replied to skillsaw's topic in WAD Releases & Development
The wolf's howling in the first map can be listened in ZDoom engines, but not in PrBoom+. I know this is a dumb request, but does anybody know why? Is there a way to make it sound? -
It worked!!! Thanks a lot.

I'm having some issues when using Chocolate Doom with the Steam client. The overlay won't show up. I use Doom Explorer to play with my wads online and offline, and I added it to my non-steam games list so I can use the Steam overlay and the Steam controller's configuration. The overlay works when using Zandronum, whether in OpenGL as in Software. However, it doesn't show up when using Chocolate Doom. The fun thing is, it used to work before I replaced the .exe file to this guy's: https://www.doomworld.com/vb/source-ports/34164-chocolate-doom/66/ I re-used the first .exe, extracted the main .zip again, deleted and added the .exe to the list of programs for Doom Explorer, and nothing seems to work. Any idea?

Wow. You gotta have a huge monitor to play like that. -

Who takes the final decision to add/discard something? I think these groans aren't so good, but at least they're better now, in my opinion -

Oh well. I just wanted to do something with Freedoom's sound effects since they're not as terrifying as Doom's. Unfortunately I'm not a sound engineer. *Too late response, I know* -
I agree most of Doom II maps are a challenge mostly because of their size -not because of their complexity. However, I understand that people prefer it to modding because of the new monsters and weapon that can extend the possibilities for their mods. I just can't imagine Ancient Aliens without Arachnotrons, for example.

I just downloaded the source code from GitHub, and I want to make some checks in the Lost Soul equivalent monster in Freedoom. However, I don't know how it's called -not its real name nor its acronym used for the sprites folder- so i can't find it.

Thanks. I'm gonna check them out.

Any tutorial for making custom weapons?
ThePetitDwarf replied to ThePetitDwarf's topic in Doom Editing
Thanks a lot. It seems to be a really complete tutorial. I really hope so. What I want to do is kinda... unorthodox and not common for an FPS (at least for any FPS I've played). Thanks, I guess I'll be hanging around the Zdoom forums. -
I had an epiphany about some custom weapons for Doom and I'd like it to be a reality. I've seen some tutorials in google and in the "tutorials" sub-forum. However they're all most for making custom maps and not about weapons. Do you know any tutorial focused on them?

Which source port are you using? And which controller? I had some similar issues while using a directx controller in Zandronum, but I managed to fix them in the controller configuration option and testing the axxis sensibility. Also, the pause and option buttons don't work in most ports, so you gotta use Esc each time you want to pause... Or use AntiMicro and bind "pause" as "Esc".

Is crouching considered cheating in Hexen?
ThePetitDwarf replied to ThePetitDwarf's topic in Doom General
So, it is considered cheating in vanilla Hexen, and the only similar way to do it is by a cast only available in multiplayer, which again, is considered cheating in story mode. Ok. Gotta figure out how to get to that portal. Thanks. Now you mention it, multiplayer seems to be really funny in Hexen. Is there any server for deathmatch? Some of the servers are undetectable to my router for some reason -either using Doomseeker or Doom Explorer. -
I was trying to get into the /r/ Doom Zandronum Event server today, but no matter how many times I search it and refresh, I can't find it. However the people at the Discord server seem to be playing there without problems. It's the same with the Pika-Giblets server, which I used to be in the most but I thought they closed it when I couldn't find it anymore. Now I notice it also happens with the /r/ server, I know there's something wrong with my Doomseeker. Any idea?

Can't find some servers in Doomseeker

Opening ports seems to be a long process. Wish me luck, guys. I'll post here if I manage to solve it by opening the ports. -
Can't find some servers in Doomseeker
ThePetitDwarf replied to ThePetitDwarf's topic in Multiplayer Doom
I tried DE, and Pika-Giblets does appear. However, /r/ doesn't, and each time I double-clic a server it downloads all the missing wads and then nothing happens. I double-clic again and it asks me to download the missing wads again, despite it already did. Any filter is applied. How do I do that? I googled it but all the info I see is about making personal servers. -
I've played so many good and long PWADs that could even be considered a different game, that I've always asked to me: how can these people finish something this big for free? Stronghold, Torment and Torture and Pirate Doom, for example, are extremely huge. I know it's possible, but it takes a lot of time -Stronghold took 9 years- because the creator can't dedicate all of his time on them. Maybe if creators do crowfounding campaigns it would take less time, but maybe that's against Doom fanbase' philosophy? I remember the creators of Plutonia got hated because of selling their creation to id Software, so maybe receiving money directly from using the Doom engine is seen as bad for the community. Correct me if I'm wrong. So, would you finance a PWAD project?

Would you finance a PWAD project?
ThePetitDwarf replied to ThePetitDwarf's topic in WAD Releases & Development
Sorry for not asking again in a long time. So I've read all of your comments, and all of them seem to be reasonable. However, It seems that I have to change my mind. What I love about the Doom community is the creativity of people creating content for everyone and as a hobby, not as a job -which somehow reminds me of the Open-Source philosophy. So yeah, looks like it's better mods keep being a voluntary effort. Thanks for all your opinions. -
Is it polite to join a server without invitation?
ThePetitDwarf replied to ThePetitDwarf's topic in Multiplayer Doom
I was playing in some servers today and people seems really nice. They don't usually play Stronghold, unfournately. But it's ok, maybe someday I'll find some people to play it
