  1. My 10 year old nephew was looking at trailers for Xbox Game Pass and actually said something to the effect of "this game has great gameplay, look at the graphics!" when he was only into the first 5 seconds of trailers for various games. He actually thinks that good graphics means a game will have good gameplay. He actually thinks that Call of Duty is a good game. Jesus Christ. Sadly Doom didn't have a trailer but he looked at the screenshots and wasn't impressed. He liked the trailer for Doom Eternal though. God help him. Can anyone suggest some graphically impressive Doom 2 wads that might impress him enough for him to play them? I'll be playing it with the original Doom II enemies but with the pixel smoothed look and the voxel mod to make enemies and objects 3D instead of sprites. But other than that, let me know if there's any Wads with graphically impressive maps or weapons. This could be a nice art style or realistic graphics such as PBR materials and if that wad had large groups of enemies then I think that would impress him as well since modern FPS games can't do that.
  2. I hate how nearly all PS1 game footage on YouTube is all pixellated to hell and some games also have a checkerboard effect over the whole picture. It makes the games look much worse than what they actually were and I hear experienced YouTubers talk about how the graphics haven't aged well because they think that's how the graphics looked back in the day. On a CRT TV PS1 games did NOT look badly pixellated nor did they have a very obvious checkerboard pattern over the whole picture. They looked smooth on a CRT TV. You can turn the smoothing option on, on a PS3 to pretty much see what a PS1 game would have looked like on a CRT TV back in the day. Or use a retrotink on a PS1 with the smoothing turned on when playing on a modern LCD TV.
  3. I never said Doom on a CRT didn't have chunky pixels, just that the CRT had smoother looking pixels than a present day source port where you keep the chunky pixels. You've actually proved my point with your picture. Look at the gun and the hand holding it compared to THIS video where the hand and gun looks pixelated while the CRT version does not. Maybe it's the scanlines that contribute to the smoothing on a CRT, I don't know. Maybe it's the upscaling to 1080p on an LCD monitor that makes the pixelation worse, who knows.
  4. Thanks. Are there any decent wads with lots of enemies which use PBR materials or any other method to give realistic graphics for the map or weapons?
  5. Doom was designed to be played on CRT monitors. CRT monitors have natural smoothing which smoothed out the pixels. When you play it on a modern LCD monitor it's not smoothing out the pixels so technically it's you who's making it look worse by keeping the chunky pixels. I'm just talking about the pixels here not the colours.
  6. Yeah but I can't bring myself to have him play that game. It's better than other FPS games but Doom II is still better than it. The Doom Eternal enemies look like them bloody live action transformers movies, there's so much detail in their faces and bodies that they don't even look like humanoids. I much prefer the art style of the Doom II enemies. They don't look as realistic but they actually look like real enemies. You also don't get large groups of enemies like you do in Doom II.
  7. I thought I was pretty clear. I said my nephew thinks good graphics means a game has good gameplay so I asked for graphically impressive wads. Obviously they should have good gameplay (I didn't say that but it was obvious to everyone except you). Thanks everyone for your suggestions.
  8. Thanks but do you know if I can run user made wads on it?
  9. Can Revenants be damaged by their own homing missiles or the missiles from other Revenants? How many missiles does it take to kill them? Do straight firing or homing missiles do the same damage as each other?
  10. As title. I could make a fake wall but that would allow the player to walk through the wall but I don't want to allow the player to walk through walls.
  11. I know an alpha build of Doom had a white Lost Soul with a different attack. Were there any other early release games that had different enemies or were there unused enemies from any classic Doom series game that never made it into the final game?
  12. Is it possible to have a door like that in Doom? What are the individual parts of the door called? Wings or blades for example?
  13. In vanilla Doom or a limit removing port such as GZDoom, you can have deep water where you can "swim" in it like in Quake as mentioned here if I understood it correctly: https://doomwiki.org/wiki/Making_deep_water How is that done in vanilla Doom if there's no jump button? If in GZDoom you can have deep water swimming then is that done with the jump button? Is there a way to allow jumping in deep water but not on land when outside of the water?
  14. Thanks. I understand now. In GZDoom you can have deep water swimming. Is that done with the jump button? Is there a way to allow jumping (swimming) when inside deep water but not on land when outside of the water?
  15. I didn't see any deep water in that video at the time you linked to. It just looks like normal water.
  16. So the only swimming in vanilla doom is just walking into a hole that has a water texture covering the top of the hole and there's no swimming like in Quake and you can only get out of the hole if there's a teleporter or steps. Is that correct?
  17. Do you have a video example of swimming in vanilla Doom please. I saw a GZDoom Builder clip where the player used a jump button to swim like in Quake. If that isn't the swimming you can do in vanilla Doom then I can't picture what the swimming looks like in vanilla Doom.
  18. Did I misunderstand what it says here?: https://doomwiki.org/wiki/Making_deep_water
  19. There seems to be many different projects such as PlayStation TC and Doom CE, etc. I'm just looking to play the console exclusive levels in a source port on my PC (GZ Doom peferred). I don't care if they are individual wads or total conversions, etc. Would like them to play as faithful to the console versions as possible. Please give me links to such wads or projects. The console exclusive versions of single players maps are mentioned in the following page in the top-right table. Is that all of them or are there more?: https://doomwiki.org/wiki/MAP33:_Betray_(Xbox_Doom_II)
  20. Thanks. Do you have any instructions for how to do that please? Surely it can't be easy as that otherwise people wouldn't have been complaining about poor quality iwad and total conversions conversions of PS1 maps to the PC? I don't see the Jaguar levels mentioned anywhere in that iwad patches page.

Can you have more than 3 keys?

Thanks. In vanilla doom if you have 3 keycard and 3 skull keys then where do the extra 3 keys appear on the status bar as I thought there was only space to show 3 keycards? In a source port where do the extra keys show on the status bar?
