Your thoughts on game soundtrack restorations?
Denim Destroyer replied to I Drink Lava's topic in Everything Else
Amazing work with so much potential. I would like to see some Gameboy games like Mother 3 and Fusion receive this treatment. -
When I still drank soda my favorites were root beer and Dr. Pepper.

I can almost taste the crispiness. -
A very strange Easter egg was recently discovered in McDonald's Treasure Land Adventure for the Genesis
Denim Destroyer replied to [McD] James's topic in Everything Else
Someone at Treasure must have been an aspiring Demoscene artists or figured out how to make a polygonal figure but couldn't find somewhere in-game to place it. -
I don't really have anything positive to say about Fava Beans. All of the maps are easy with at times odd progression, why is the blue key in E1M7 tucked away in a small corridor? If you like Knee Deep In The Dead style wads and want to play something historically notable then go right ahead. Otherwise you can find much better wads.

If You Could Add A New Class To Hexen...
Denim Destroyer replied to Denim Destroyer's topic in Doom General
Too bad I don't know how to mod Hexen because I would definitely implement some of these if I could. Reminds me of the Shaper in Geneforge. -

Ultima 4 and OpenRCT, basically whatever my work schedule allows me to do. -
What demons deserve a nice vacation every now and again?

Did you make that using sectors or is that .obj imported into GZDoom? Also that image for some reason reminds me of those late 90s early CGI renders that used to be on everyone's personal sites.

That sky texture goes incredibly well with the map. Also is the title a play on words of "Doom Eternal"? -
Archvile has a doctorate from some preppy Ivy League school but only got in because his grandpa donated a bunch of money. The revenant got a full ride scholarship to the same place but was kicked out his freshman year due to partying too hard, so now he goes to Sandy City Community College.

Reminds me of the last Chinatown level in Vampire the Masquerade Bloodlines.

Graphically Greatest game you've ever seen?
Denim Destroyer replied to Kute's topic in Everything Else
Kingdom Come Deliverance, instead of having simple slopes in forest and plains, the developer went through the effort of creating realistic topography by using satellite data. Plus I have a soft spot for late medieval aesthetics so that might influence my opinion just a little. -
Favorite game soundtrack that nobody knows about?
Denim Destroyer replied to MattFright's topic in Everything Else
When it comes to licensed Dune games, I have only seen people talk about the Westwood strategy games and not the earlier Adventure/Strategy by Cyro. Sadly despite having a CD release only the Amiga version has this awesome soundtrack. -
What Video Game Are You Currently Playing?
Denim Destroyer replied to Neurosis's topic in Everything Else
Syberia or I was until I got tired of the puzzles, if you want to use that word, which were being thrown in front of me. The two main components I look for in an adventure game are logical puzzles and an interesting story. Syberia has a decent story ruined by tedious puzzles with too many falling into the camp of guessing dialog combinations or walk from one side of level to grab an item. If this was a low budget animated movie or miniseries it would be better as it feels like the developer was more interested in creating an unique world than a good game. Need something visceral to detox from this game. -
What is the worst map you can create?
Denim Destroyer replied to jghfugg29833's topic in Doom General
A highly detailed map where every sector is marked as a secret, think KDIZD or mid 2000s wad type of super detail. Would be even worse in GZDoom because of the secret found notification. -
It is hard for me to pick but I would say 99 over 2004 mainly for the former playing faster than the sequel. With that said Onslaught is a lot of fun in small doses plus it is hard to find any non-source engine game with the amount of custom content UT2K4 has.

Denim Destroyer replied to Neurosis's topic in Everything Else
Just finished playing through Freespace 2. I liked the new ships and weapons more than those found in the first game but the sequel lacks the sense of dread and suspense found in its predecessor. Still a fun game but the last few missions aren't that good which kind of drags down the experience. -
Sandstone [Single Level Tech Base//My First WAD]
Denim Destroyer replied to SpaceTrash's topic in WAD Releases & Development
Aside from requiring to jump in order to access the vent I have no complaints about your map as I found it to be good for a first time level, however, it does have one quality that often is found in newcomer's maps. Too many doors. Doors in Doom originally served the purpose of keeping players from accessing areas before certain requirements were met (i.e. picking up a key) and as a way to save performance, less stuff to render on screen at a time which also lowers the chance of a visplane overflow from occurring. This isn't an issue on modern system using limit removing sourceports which the ones you tested the map in both are. The benefit of less doors in a map is that the player doesn't have to stop and wait for them to open thus keeping a good flow going on. Alternatively waiting for a door to open can be used to prevent a player from simply running away from a combat encounter. I recommend removing some of the doors that aren't key locked or triggered from buttons and see how your map plays. One last thing, the map crashed in Boom because you have the format set to UDMF which is only used by Eternity and GZDoom. Your map from what I can tell uses none of the UDMF features making that format unnecessary for Sandstone. If you want to convert it should be as simple as changing the map format in Doom Builder when loading the level. -
All the former humans were part of a base punk rock band before being turned. Zombieman was the lead singer, chaingunner on drums, and shotgunner was the main guitarist. This is my new headcannon and if I had the skills/knowledge I would make a mod based around this.

All I got is a couple highly detailed rooms and an early conversion of Heretic for Doom 64.

As always I am excited to find new wads from the Cacowards even if I am bad at actually getting around to playing them. Also I glad to see this year's addition of the special features section! Allowing projects or people that can't fit into any other category to have a spotlight is always nice!

Baldur's Gate 2, I finished playing through Baldur's Gate 1 last year and immediately started the sequel but some issues with Windows caused me to lose my saves. While I do like the classic D&D action I think was spoiled by Pathfinder Kingmaker's ruleset and quality of life features that make appreciating Baldur's Gate 2 harder. Things like cantrips, true turn based combat, and not having to transcribe spells from scrolls are things I have come to miss. I will say that the world design is good but the encounters so far leave quite a bit to be desired. High level mages are absolutely annoying to fight against and the amount I keep encountering is ridiculous. -
What do you consider to be the most annoying game mechanic?
Denim Destroyer replied to Idiotinfrontofadesk's topic in Everything Else
Dual classing does have a benefit over multi-classing in that it won't divide your XP between multiple classes which makes leveling up take longer. I personally prefer the 2E method of dual classing over 3E+ allowing you to level whatever class you want when you want. It just reeks of number crunching min maxing to have a character with levels in four classes which is something I have seen a lot in Neverwinter Nights and Pathfinder Kingmaker build guides. -

Excessive animations that do nothing but slow down gameplay. While I love Kingdom Come Deliverance the game did bother me with how many animations that were made for immersion reasons but instead took me out of the game. Trying to space myself just far enough from doors so Henry could properly open/close them or watching myself reach down and pick up every individual herb got old quick. Sure it may make the game seem more realistic but comes at the cost of adding tedium and jankiness.
