    [Community Project] "Gorehounds of Doom"

I'm really looking forward to seeing what comes out of this. It'll be a candy store of various Doomworlders' fears mixed with blood and gore for good measure

    Most recent movie you saw

For shits and giggles, I got together with some friends over Discord and streamed Battlefield Earth. Yes, the horrible "definitely not Scientology-related" sci-fi flick with John Travolta. I was expecting it to be miserable but we were all laughing our asses off at all the terrible decisions, horrible dialogue, and awful effects. It was a terrible film by all counts but it was a hilarious, idiotic mess I'm even amazed anyone made with a straight face.
  3. I was six years old and just freshly getting into videogames through PS2 and an Atari my dad had set up in the bedroom my brother and I shared. I was always fond of watching my dad play various games on his PC like Heroes of Might and Magic III, Fallout (the original), Star Control, and of course, Doom. It scared the living shit out of me then, but at the same time I couldn't help but be fascinated with it. I'd spent endless hours watching various Youtube videos and stupid NG flash cartoons about the games until I got over my fears and started playing it relentlessly after installing it on my PC in 8th grade. Since then, I've been nonstop hooked. It's one of my favorite games of all time and I still have loads of fun playing it to this day. And thanks to modding, there's no shortage of insane things you can turn the game into.

These voxelized Doom sprites are incredible

That's what most excites me about this project tbh, classic Doom VR already feels like you're up close and personal with the demons and this pack is gonna amplify that that tenfold. It'll be so cool seeing these demons given a genuine sense of size and scale, with an appealing voxel style no less.

    Doom 1 or 2?

Doom II is the one I have the fondest memories with, even if some levels get on my nerves, it remains my favorite.
  6. Split Second from 1992 was a b-movie I remember absolutely loving. Made on only a budget of 7 million, and with Rutger Hauer being Rutger Hauer. Features a monster who looks like Venom wearing shades, a loaded backstory for said monster, and ridiculous weapon designs (for example a revolver that looks like a damn brick). It's by no means a great, or even good movie, but it is PRIME early 90s schlock that makes up for its quality by being something any movie should be: entertaining. I'd recommend giving it a go, it's a fun film

    The "stupid mod idea" thread

Weapon mod with a lava lamp launcher that has an AOE effect that leaves broken glass and hot wax on the floor, damaging whatever enemy walks on it.

    Good weapon mods?

If you want some weapons with a notably different feel (and by extension, balance), than I can give a few pointers: - Combined Arms: An absurd but really fun weapons mod with multiple playable character with different altfires on each weapon. Sort of arcadey feeling, but I'd recommend loading up a decently tough WAD if you want a challenge. - Iron Snail: Weapons mod meant to emulate the style and feel of weapons you'd find in a game like Metal Slug. Simple, but enjoyable. - Samsara: Ever wanted to play through your favorite WADs as characters from other classic FPS games, like the guard from Marathon or Corvus from Heretic? This one's for you. - Guncaster: Completely bonkers mod featuring ridiculous weaponry, spells, insane movement, and so even more. Best played with the most intense mapset you can grab, because the weapons here are OP as hell and will cut through most regular levels like butter. - Trailblazer: Made by the same modder as Guncaster, this one is basically the Doom equivalent to a playable 80s action movie. Like GC and Combined Arms, get a harder set of maps if you want a challenge. - Angled Doom: This comes with a completely vanilla version as well, however the version in question I'm talking about features some new weapons and monster variants. Not exactly reinventing the wheel, just kinda adds a little bit more spice to the traditional Doom arsenal, as well as the enemies. Those are all I could think off the top of my head. I was gonna put Russian Overkill but that is not exactly a mod you'd play if you have any semblance of challenge in mind lol. Hopefully at least one of these is enjoyable to you. I'd recommend checking out the channel "ICARUSLIV3S" on YouTube if you wanna find more non-meme weapons mods, he's covered some of these and a ton more.

Master Levels for Doom II - 25th Anniversary MIDI Pack

I gave this a try, as I run both No Rest for the Living and Master Levels as episodes on my copy of Doom II. Works just fine on the levels as they're meant to but the intermission theme bleeds into the intermission screens of Doom II and NRFTL. I'm not familiar with typing out MAPINFO to counter this, but if there's a single line of code or something I could type in to fix it, please let me know.

What movie do you dislike but every else loves?

I gotta be perfectly honest, I never liked Halloween (1978). I remember being bored and basically just waiting for Michael to finish meandering to the next murder of some braindead teenager. I seriously didn't get what people found so scary or amazing about that movie. I enjoy Carpenter's other work like They Live and The Thing but Halloween was just a massive bore to me.

Widescreen Assets Pack and Appreciation Thread

So glad you guys are coming together to provide this sort of thing for various PWADs out there. I've been adding them into my copies of every WAD on this thread that's in my collection, it's helped freshen them up for my monitor wonderfully. Keep up the good stuff!
  15. MAP05 of Vanguard is probably one of my favorites when it comes down to Doom maps that resemble abandoned places. If I'm remembering right from my time playing it, Lost Civilization is chock full of maps that resemble abandoned places being reclaimed by nature (and demons lol). Maps 8-10 of the mapset CPD have a really neat "underground temple" feel which is cool for a WAD using mostly vanilla assets. While the rest of the WAD has different stuff going on, MAP04 of "Chainworm Kommando" takes place in a forest with some rundown buildings along the way, complete with the cabin from the Evil Dead movies.
