    Descension is a set of six maps, each taking place in hell. None of them are super long, and there are a couple boss fights(if you wanna call them that), including a final battle at the end. Skill levels are fully implemented. Play UV at your own risk. =P There are some GZDoom features used(on some levels more than others), and there will likely be errors in other source ports.     Thanks for the further feedback and the demos. I don't know why I kept the player with just the shotgun so much, and put hitscanners in nearly every encounter. I'd honestly like to reform some of this wad's encounters eventually.

    If I don't incorporate these things now I'll definitely consider it in my next project. And about that teleport, I could add teleport fog, I'll see. Thanks for input again.

    Update! This is a rather big update as it adds more(hopefully enough now) ammo to every map. In addition, I've added just a few more armor bonuses here and there, which aren't gonna change a whole lot but will help a little bit. I'd like to think there's enough ammo now, but I'll see what others think. Also I still plan to change map 2's music, since I don't like that the midi fails for some people. I just haven't found something fitting yet, unfortunately.

    Interesting. I'm quite curious as to why it only happens with a small amount of midis and I'd like to hear if someone knows why it happens. Still, I plan to change it anyway, finding another fitting song for that map shouldn't be too hard =P

    Thanks for your feedback! Increasing the ammo is a suggestion I've previously heard from someone else, so I think now it's time to add some more. I personally love those sound effects, but I understand. And the music of level 2 not playing was an issue for one other person as well, huh... I should change that as well then.

    Hmmm, now I feel conflicted about this. My idea was to design quite a challenge in higher skill levels, so I'm not sure if the solution is simply play on a lower skill, or for me change things a bit. Regardless, I'm gonna look into adding a few more armor pickups in some places that will help the player just slightly.

    Ah yeah, I am aware of that, you played on UV I assume? Part of my idea to make it extra difficult was to limit the player with resources, but maybe if I hear this is a common problem I'll look into adding just a bit more.

    Fixing the lava pit, thanks! I don't mind if a player really wishes to use those features honestly, and I'm not determined to make sure they're completely disabled, it's just not the intended experience. I don't really mind if the mapset just ends by taking the player to a default Doom 2 level, but I can fix it if it is a big deal to others. Anyway thanks. What do you mean by rough with resources though?

    Okay I updated the link! I made several changes including a couple bug fixes, now this will likely be the final version. Just saying this in case anyone downloaded the previous verson. EDIT: Aaaaand updated the file again because a friend pointed out something rather small but still in need of fixing.
  12. I originally had a room with 2 hell knights and a baron of hell, all with a tag of 5. All three had to be defeated for the player to get out, so I had this: Script 5 OPEN { While(ThingCount (T_NONE, 5)) { Delay(1); } Line_SetBlocking(3,0,BLOCKF_CREATURES); SetLineTexture(3, SIDE_FRONT, TEXTURE_MIDDLE, "-"); } But I want the Baron to drop a key as well(handled on a different script), which would require it to have a different tag(to avoid all three of them dropping keys). I thought this would work but it has problems if you kill the baron first: Script 5 OPEN { While(ThingCount (T_NONE, 5)) While(ThingCount (T_NONE, 7)) { Delay(1); } Line_SetBlocking(3,0,BLOCKF_CREATURES); SetLineTexture(3, SIDE_FRONT, TEXTURE_MIDDLE, "-"); } And there doesn't seem to be an "and" statement so... Is there another way to make this work?
  13. I updated GZDoom Builder today and now when I try to load a map I've been working on, Builder just freezes and I have to exit. It doesn't freeze when I open a new map though. It seems that something in the update is now preventing me from loading my map. It uses custom textures and props btw, if it helps to know. Is anyone else having a problem like this?

    The backups wouldn't load either. So I just downloaded the version of GZDoom builder before yesterday's update and my map loads normally... It definitely is something in the update. For now I can just work in this version I suppose. I was kind of hoping to not show my stuff til it's finished, so I'd like to wait and see if this is an issue anyone else has and if it gets resolved. It's not a biggie if I end up having to share the map but still.

    GZDoom Builder: Custom Things Problems!

    I'm having a problem with custom things appearing as unknown and not available in the things menu in GZDoom Builder as well, only since a recent update. You said you fixed this with a "custom Thing WAD" resource but I'm not sure what you mean, could you explain?

    Tips for making a conversion? (+HUD face question)

    So on a completely useless note, just wanted to say that I'm currently struggling on whether this wad is gonna be a full or partial conversion >.> Anyway... In hoping to find a nice way to scale the face images without having to start from scratch I came to this point: Don't mind the offset for now, just the face graphic itself. It looks like it hasn't been distorted really but I must ask... Any opinions? It would help.
  18. I've looked around online for tutorials/tips related to making full conversion wads but it seems there's not much information available. So I really just wanted to ask if anyone here has experience with making full conversions from Doom 2, and any general tips they might give. I know my way around GZDOOM Builder(well mostly) and I know how to insert custom stuff with Slade, but... I'm feeling intimidated because I don't know where to start when it comes to a total conversion. Is it all just about replacing textures and such, deleting existing stuff first, or...? Also, I heard you can distribute as a standalone game, like there's a way to package everything to where anyone can play the wad without needing to drag it into a sourceport. Is this true? It would be convenient for getting more people to play the mod. That might be a dumb question but it's worth asking. An additional question I have is: How should I go about putting these HUD faces I've made into the wad? What I mean is, I made them rather large(oops?), so they're gonna need to be scaled down in some way. They're basically all variants of this(Note that the final graphic will likely be cropped closer to the character's face, meaning the shoulders and antennae will be left out): I ask this because I want to find the method which results in less quality loss/blurring, and scaling the image down to 24x29(Doomguy face sprite size) in GIMP definitely messes it up. Orrrrr is it possible that I'm basically screwed for making it so big? Erm, anyway, help/tips are greatly appreciated!

    Just finished my 3rd map. About 15+ minutes of gameplay(when I play it). Tested with GZDOOM. Not super easy, but I'll let you be the judge of that. Also it's the same on every skill level. They should be fine, but I'm still trying to work out a little problem with light levels looking different in editor, in GZDOOM, and in screenshots.

I have a script with TeleportGroup that teleports monsters into a room with many other monsters already walking around, and the teleporting monsters will fail to teleport at all if another is standing on their intended spawning spot. How can I fix this? Like, making them just come in as soon as the spot is open?

    So this is the second map I've ever made but I think it's okay enough to show off and I was hoping for some feedback. https://www.dropbox.com/s/qqvkk3fqiwhrdc0/Overtime.wad?dl=0 The theme is pretty much just tech, with some rocky outdoor areas and "ruins" at the very end. All of it is DOOM 2 textures, excluding the custom sky. Some parts may be a bit difficult, at least the first time playing. (Skill level doesn't change btw.) This map takes me roughly 13 minutes to play through, to give you an idea of its length. Anyway feedback is greatly appreciated!     Thanks a ton for playing my map and giving feedback throughout! This is exactly the kind of thing I needed. Constructive criticism. (It helped that viewers were giving feedback too) Looking back I'm wondering why I was obsessed with placing so many doors(along with other things). I'm glad that the flaws were pointed out, I'll be sure to keep all of it in mind when I make my next map.
