    Your thoughts on Plutonia

I'm actually going to start playing the PSX version of Final Doom tonight , I've read the PS1 version has only 30 levels compared to the PC's 64 levels. Can anyone shed some light on how much of either Plutonia or TNT actually made it in to that version? From what I've seen of Plutonia it looks like a real challenge.

Doom II , It's been a long time and Its taking a long time to finish. Playing it on Xbox One , Really wish the 16:9 aspect ratio fit properly.
  7. BIOS will have to be faded out eventually as it only supports up to 2TB of storage. UEFI will indeed be the norm.

    Calling all OGs

I was 8 when Doom came out , I remember my brother raving about it as one of his friends had it on PC. I also recall it being shown on an amazing TV show we used have in the UK called Games Master. I didn't play it until 1997 on The PSX.

what happened to the 5th generation of consoles?

As someone who went from a Sega Megadrive to a PSX I was blown away by the jump and I think to today we have still yet to see such a significant jump in graphics especially. The launch line up was incredible and in my opinion has yet to be matched: Destruction Derby , Ridge Racer , Wipeout , Tekken to name just a few. With that being said (as someone stated earlier here) certain beloved 2D franchises did not transition well into 3D at all. 3D Lemmings on PS1 was just awful and Fade To Black- A game that was a sequel to flashBack - was an absolute blocky mess. The Playstation was a doddle to "Chip" and play pirate games on or if you didn't fancy voiding your warranty Disc swapping was pretty easy if you could get the technique down. The Sega Saturn just wasn't up to scratch for 3D programming as Sony's machine and I hear was a nightmare to code for. Streets of Rage was supposed to get a 3D fourth instalment on this system but it never got off the ground (and still hasn't) Nintendo were a little late off the starting grid for the 5th generation of consoles with the N64 not being released until 96/97 but with Mario 64 being THE launch title , it soon caught up. Though the N64 had its own issues being cartridge based , memory and sound being the main two. Ninty obviously knew memory constraints would be an issue from the get go as they made room for the "expansion bay" which was sold separately ( imagine Sony or Microsoft trying to pull a fast one like that these days) The sound on the 64 was often substituted for almost midi style tracks in ports of games that were on the PSX or Dreamcast. One that sticks to mind was WWF Warzone. Well thats how I remember the 5th gen consoles , I don't think there was any main problem with all that went on ( Maybe Sega would differ in opinion on that lol) It was a major transitional period in gaming and a major learning curve for developers. Oh, and the Dreamcast? Thats gotta be more generation 5.5 right? Sega being very quick ( maybe too quick) to get the jump on the PS2.
  10. Most OS's these days only run at 64bit , especially Mac. 64 bit means more memory and quicker more responsive experience.

Play What You Want, Listen To Your Heart

Back in the early to mid 90's I'd read the games magazines for reviews and I felt they gave you a pretty accurate view of the game. These days EVERYONE is a critic and it only takes one bad review to come out and the masses follow like sheep and scream from the rooftops about how bad the game is. So today I don't listen to any reviews and my choice as to whether I buy the game or not is mine and mine alone.

What do you think inspired id software into "satanic themes"?

It's been a while since i read masters of Doom, but I'm sure its said in there that id did actually get the green light from 20th century fox for the Aliens license but i think Fox was putting all sorts of restrictions of what could and couldn't be included in the game and Carmack and Romero decided to just do an original project.
  17. To be fair they look like they're in really good condition. A serious collector of the Doom series or just a video game enthusiast would pay good money for them.
  18. Either the Sony Playstation or Sega MegaDrive , too tough to choose between them. The MegaDrive got me into Sonic , Streets Of Rage , Golden Axe , Space Harrier and The PSX gave me Doom , Resident Evil , Tomb Raider , GTA...... Such great consoles and amazing games.

    The Doom Confessional Booth

Ha! yes you did! I've slept since then and forgot all about what was said. I'm mainly a console gamer and don't play much if anything at all on PC. My first Doom experience was the PSX port of Doom. N64's are really expensive at the minute even on places like Amazon and CEX , they seem to have gone up in price as of late. The same thing happened a while back with Sega Dreamcast , lots of people suddenly took an interest in it the prices rocketed. I'll definitely pick up a 64 if the price is right though but not from one of these console snobs that wont let one go unless you can prove you're a serious collector or your last name is Mario.

    The Doom Confessional Booth

I actually made a thread about this about a week ago as I'd only just found out that Doom 64 was its own thing and not a port of the original which I'd believed for so long that it was. Lots of the good folk on here pointed me in the direction of 'DoomEX' which is a pretty close shave to Doom 64 I've been told. Though I'm still actively looking for an N64 to play it on too. The original Doom games have aged fantastically in my opinion especially the level design which puts plenty of modern shooters to absolute shame.

That's quite a hiatus dude. Must be pretty cool to jump back in after all that time.

    The Doom Confessional Booth

I play Doom 1+2 on 'I'm too young to die' difficulty most the time. I've never finished Doom 3. I've only just now bought a copy of Final Doom - 21 years after release.
