What Video Game Are You Currently Playing?

Played a bit of Minecraft again and I have to say that it was kinda fun exploring what I had built a few years ago. I was also surprised when I opened the client and the game version was 1.12, while I last played before 1.8 came out, iirc.

rock/metal songs that would have fit Doom

Iron Maiden - Be quick or be dead, Genghis Khan, Purgatory, anything from Somewhere in time and Seventh Son (good atmosphere), e.t.c. Judas Priest - Nightcrawler (maybe a bit too heavy for Doom), Turbo Lover (would love seeing it when getting prepared for a boss), Beyond the realms of death, Necromancer, Hellrider, Heavy metal, Breaking the Law, Electric Eye, e.t.c. Metallica - Ride the lightning as an album, Battery, Wherever I may roam Megadeth - Rattlehead, Symphony of Destruction, Sweating bullets and Rust in Peace as a whole, especially Tornado of Souls.

    Who's hyped for Fallout 76?

Eh, I don't really know. I mean, I am still not that convinced it would be faithful to the rest of the series (yes, the crafting would work and they even made that town building minigame in Fallout 4, which was already good enough). We will have to wait and see, I guess.

    Who's hyped for Fallout 76?

If the game is indeed multiplayer, then I wouldn't be interested in it, at all. In fact, I would be very very veeeeery disappointed. Fallout and multiplayer are two words in opposite sides of the spectrum. Here is why I wouldn't like a multiplayer Fallout: 1) Remember what the first games were like? Remember how Bethesda changed the formula from really deep top-down RPG, to RPG-shooter hybrid? Let's just say I accept 3 and Vegas as true Fallouts, which I do, because they were great games. That would still be a bit hard for me, since they had a formula change, so doubts can still exist. However, a 2nd formula change is not a great idea in my opinion and the product would hugely deviate from being a true Fallout. 2) Let's say they make a survival game, like Rust (just so you know, I sometimes watch a bit of Rust on YouTube and while I haven't played it, it looks pretty interesting - generally, I don't mind it as a game). The Fallout universe is all about surviving in the wasteland and this is the problem. You have radiation every so often, mutants, super mutants, deathclaws, bandits, armed robots, e.t.c. Adding the PvP element there too, is a recipe for disaster. The gameplay would become really annoying really fast. Except if they toned down the dangers of the wasteland, in which case, would that be Fallout anymore? Anyways, this is just guessing about the game's nature. Honestly, I wish they would turn to the roots of the series for once, but I guess Bethesda only makes first person games, so no luck here.

Your thoughts on the Wolfenstein series

Your thoughts on the Wolfenstein series

Not that close with Wolfenstein games. Wolfenstein 3D I had trouble configuring the controls (it had that awkward player movement when you would push your mouse forwards or back), so I just played 2 or 3 levels (I would love to finish it as a game, if I can find the solution to the controls problem). Return to Castle Wolfenstein I haven't played yet, but it is in my list. Wolfenstein 2009 I played halfway. It was nice that they had that hub system and I enjoyed the caves and the underground German facility mission, where everything blows up near the end of it, iirc. But I felt that the game was getting kinda boring as time passed. Especially when they introduced the zombies in the church, that are total bullet sponges, I couldn't handle the game for much longer. Wolfenstein: The New Order seems interesting, but my PC would barely run it (I guess 30 fps, low settings, like the Thief reboot). The Old Blood I would like to try for the stealth. Might be good, might be bad, I don't really know if I don't try. Wolfenstein 2 seemed way too stupid and disgusting at some places (at least from what I saw on some videos on youtube) for me to even try out:

Accessing the secret level in Inferno

That, I didn't think of doing. But I can't keep an invulnerability for the end of a level. :)

Accessing the secret level in Inferno

I prefer doing the strafe running method, because I feel great when I do it right (usually I save before the jump). First time I did it, it took a lot of tries. The next one, it was kinda easier to achieve. Other than that, I would never do the rocket jump, because I hate losing health from my rockets accidentally or intentionally. The hacker-y method with the switch I haven't tried yet, but it seems effective, so why not?

    Doctor Who marathon

Ok, so I saw this the other day and I wanted to share. Apparently, they are having a Classic Doctor Who marathon on Twitch, starting at May 29, 11 am PDT and I got really excited for it. I wouldn't mind seeing some William Hartnell again, even though I have seen his episodes in the past and I could definitely see some episodes from the next Doctors. I guess, I might watch some days for an hour or two if I find the time. Will anybody else be watching?
  10. If I am to talk about slashers, I will first talk about my favourite series. I was really disappointed with Jason goes to Hell: the Final Friday (what they did to Jason in this movie is probably the worst form of rape they can do on a character). Let me not talk about Jason X, OK??? Another series with similar problems is Halloween. I found the alternate timeline of films (H20 and Resurrection) to be really forgettable. And later movies in Hellraiser were pretty bad. Iirc, they were not meant to be Hellraiser from the beginning of their creation. Also, surprise surprise, the Room. It is hard to put it here, considering that I had a really fun time with it (I couldn't stop laughing). Additionally, put some Stallone films here, like Rambo 4 or Rocky 5, because they were boring as hell. Generally, longer series tend to get boring and repetitive (if only they wouldn't milk slashers till they are absolutely dry). Avatar the last Airbender too was really sucky and I couldn't digest it even if I watched just the review of it. Finally, I will mention a Greek movie, because it was horrible. It is called: Attack of the Giant Mousakas iirc and it is what the title implies. Some aliens come to Earth (horrible effects on the UFO) and they take a piece of mousakas and turn it into a giant living creature, that starts moving around like a worm, killing everyone it finds, by absorbing them or throwing potatoes that cause third degree burns on the victim. IT WAS HORRIBLE!!!

    Doctor Who marathon

Yes, it can become really overwhelming, considering the number of episodes in both the new and the old series. I first started watching the newer series, that started around 2005, with Eccleston and Tennant (did that near 2011) and while I haven't seen all the episodes there, I got a good idea of what the show was supposed to be and it seemed pretty fun, while also having some really good alien designs, lovable characters, time travel, gadgets, e.t.c. Then it was easier for me to go backwards to classic Doctor Who. IIRC, the old series doesn't get episodes with color until the 3rd Doctor and the first Doctor has some episodes that are more historic than scifi, plus somewhat meh enemy designs (can't blame them with the budget and technology they had at the time), so it might be a bit harder to watch for someone new to the series, but it is definitely worth it! Like @Ajora said, if you want to watch the older series and get a good intro, Unearthy Child is what you are looking for.

Just read that it will last till July 23rd. :D
  13. I would occasionally watch some of his videos and they were pretty good. However, hearing about this was sad news and he was indeed very young for this to happen. Rest in peace.

Expansion Packs: Your best, okay, and worst

Best expansions: Diablo 2 Lord of Destruction was a super fun one. And I got so used to playing Diablo 2 with it, that if you asked me about the expansion's contents, I wouldn't be able to guess even half of that stuff. Hexen Deathknights of the Dark Citadel is also one I enjoyed playing. Maybe it is more of the same with the original game, but that's one of the reasons I found it to be good. Also, iirc, it was slightly more difficult than Hexen and I still remember the crappy start I had with the Cleric. So I took the Fighter and in the end, I played the expansion with him, killing almost everything with the axe (what a fun class - and throwing exploding hammers at Afrits, killing them in one shot, never got old). Good expansion: Dishonored Knife of Dunwall. Can't remember much about the story now, but the main character was pretty cool and I loved playing an assassin. Also, how it ended and the connection with the main game were done flawlessly. Too bad I had a normal knife for a weapon, instead of Corvo's butterfly knife-sword or whatever it was. Edit: I forgot the Ultimate Doom. This one is my favourite of them all. Harder Doom 1 gameplay, unique setting for it's time (it wasn't techbasey, but it also wasn't purely hellish) and if course, it is an expansion for my favourite game.
  15. Edit: In the past I had used a bunch of button phones from time to time. But the one I loved the most was a Sony Cybershot. My first smartphone was an Xperia Arc S (WITH ONE CORE AND 512MB OF RAM!!! - let's not talk about internal storage, which was less than the RAM). I loved my phone and I had 4.4.4 AOKP on it, but as time passed, it started messing up the battery and it burnt a few SDs. So, I recently switched to a used Nexus 5 (currently Marshmallow, but I am going to flash a ROM during summer). Needless to say, it is miles ahead of my previous phone. I am able to run a shit ton of games with more than acceptable performance (except some new games that have drops), store the 5 GBs of my music freely and not be afraid of the battery.

Unreal Gold is currently free on GOG

I think they would say something like "OH MA GAWD!!!" with lightning speed. Also, I like how some of them would hover, while chanting and say gibberish.

I still feel guilty for accidentally killing the first Nali I found in a cabin. And it was even worse when I would let them scout ahead, only for them to be blasted in the face by the enemy... :| I also have to boot the game again sometime. It is really fun and beautiful (especially the exploration and those skyboxes are amazing). And the weapon variety is out of this world (I had tons of fun with that shuriken throwing gun or the rocket launcher).

So, what kind of music do you guys like?

Favourite genres: classic heavy metal (practically anything from the 80s and 90s era I like), thrash metal, some symphonic metal here and there, a bit of electronic (mainly Moroder and Daft Punk), a bit of disco (my mood has to be really special for that), random older rock or pop songs (example: Enola Gay, Everything's coming up roses, Don't fear the Reaper, Take on me, Enjoy the silence, Hold the line, e.t.c.) and the newest addition to the list is prog rock. Favourite bands/artists: Iron Maiden, Judas Priest, anything with Dio or Ozzy, Megadeth, Metallica Also, I like Omen, Grim Reaper, Saxon, Giorgio Moroder, Camel, e.t.c. Favourite albums: I can't even choose an album from Iron Maiden alone, so I will just post some albums I like from each band (no particular order). Iron Maiden: Killers, Piece of Mind, Powerslave, Somewhere in Time Judas Priest: Painkiller, Screaming for Vengeance, Defenders of the Faith, Angel of Retribution Dio: Rising, Holy Diver, Last in Line, Sacred Heart, Magica, Heaven and Hell Ozzy: Blizzard of Ozz, Paranoid, Master of Reality Megadeth: Killing is my business, Countdown to Extinction, Rust in Peace, Cryptic Writings Metallica: Ride the Lightning, Master of Puppets, Black album, And Justice for all
  19. As far as Bond films go, I love the ones with Dalton, but also Roger Moore and Sean Connery (John Lasenby was also pretty good - not terribly exciting, but still good enough). Anyways, the 2 Bond films I hate are Skyfall and Spectre. Skyfall, because it negates the whole idea of James Bond as being an invincible spy with gadgets and tons of women, while playing on a casino once in a while. Here he just becomes a weakling and don't even get me started on the new Q and the lack of gadgets (a damn pistol with safety, instead of laser watches, grenade pens, e.t.c.) ... And Spectre because I couldn't even watch 5 minutes from the damn boredom. Also, I dislike the Hunger games, if only for the huge wave of dumb survival games and mods that got released some years ago, only to be forgotten now (there was a Minecraft mod, the Culling, e.t.c., but today, only Rust seems to be kinda relevant). And I once again got bored with it. And I don't know if it counts, but I hated Twilight. Wouldn't have included it as it is hated by a lot of people, though I still saw girls of my high school rushing to see a sequel to that when it got released. Additionally, I have never seen a Harry Potter movie fully. Guess why? I somehow got bored again... I prefer Lord of the Rings a lot more, even without knowing what is happening at Tolkien's universe most of the time. Finally, I think that Star Wars are good movies, although they are really overrated (by far the most overrated movies in my list). I think Blade Runner blows Star Wars out of the water. Surprised to see Your Name, Terminator 2 and 2001 here. I loved Your Name, Terminator 2 is one of the greatest sequels of all time to an already perfect first movie (if only 1 didn't get overshadowed by 2) but about 2001, I haven't seen it yet (want to read the book first) and I was expecting it to be a masterpiece. Maybe it is too artistic, with hidden meanings and stuff, in which case, it depends if I will like it.

What Do You Think of Wormholes?

WHO DARES INSULT WORMHOLE? Just kidding. :) Anyways, first time I played that map, it must have been like: "What a lame map. I finished it in seconds." The second time though, when I took my time and found all the secrets, I loved every second of it. The defining moment for this map, was when I looked at the wall textures, after I went through that teleporter linedef and noticed that they are all decayed and different. The realization hit so hard, that I couldn't help it. It is my second most favourite iwad map. And Death's Bells further enhances the experience. Speaking more generally though, what can I say? I just love maps that tell a story like that. Like others said, it is definitely hard to make the optional areas worth it, but if you manage to do that, you get a masterpiece. This kind of map gives an option to the player, of how he approaches the map and an option like that is not something you see often in Doom. It is a unique take on great level design.

Yanny or Laurel, what do you hear?

When I played the main video, I just heard Yanny. Basically something close to Yanny. It was more like Yammy, but still it is closer to Yanny. Then I heard the sounds from the six links posted below, that were saying 30% slower, 20% slower, e.t.c. and I found it weird, but I heard Yanny in the first 3 and Laurel in the last 3. But the difference seemed huge. I was expecting the 2 things to be really close or something, but they are worlds apart. Read from the article that it is a difference in how much bass you play the sound with, but I can't comprehend that right now. Besides, I am not a sound engineer or anything...

Your favorite track throughout classic doom?

Doom 1: Hiding the Secrets (my favourite Doom track and like I said before, also my ringtone - very upbeat) and Sign of Evil (atmospheric as hell) Doom 2: Into Sandy's city, The Demon's Dead and DOOM Final Doom: Death's Bells (my second favourite Doom track - I sink in the level, whenever I hear this playing) and Legion of the Lost (third favourite - most calming and depressing Doom track I know of - by the way, it goes well with any Doom map)

What Video Game Are You Currently Playing?

Had the same problem with the original Tomb Raiders. I mean, the puzzle controls didn't fit with the action gameplay in fights. Plus the textures seem like they are 50 shades of puke and the polygons are still kinda crude for a 3D game, in my opinion. I remember playing the first one and while I progressed more than 50%, I tried playing Anniversary at the same time and I had more fun. That was the reason I never finished the first game. But by all means, continue playing the first one, before Anniversary. Also played the second one and it surely looked a bit better. The Great Wall was a memorable intro too.

Which DOOM did you play first?

This reminds me of something... When I was like 5 years old or something, I had a hacked PS1 (think it is called chipped), but I was too young to know what that was and besides, my parents had bought me that (I didn't even know what games and consoles were before that), so I guess I was happy with a console and getting new CDs once in a while. When we would go to the videoclub, the person there would burn the game on the CD and then he would write the name of the game on it with a marker. So, I asked my parents for a CD marker and a blank CD. Then I tried writing a game's name on the CD and I somehow hoped that the CD would be playable with the correct game on it. Needless to say, I ended up being really disappointed when that didn't work. I feel really stupid when I try to comprehend what was I thinking back then... 😄

Which DOOM did you play first?

My first Doom game I finished was the Ultimate Doom. I played it some years ago on my pc and it is the reason I love Doom today. But the first Dooms I opened were Doom 3 (was too scary for me at the time) and Plutonia. If you could guess, a beginner didn't do very well at the latter. So I guess I went straight to Doom 1 afterwards, then Doom 2 and TNT. Currently I am half the way in Doom 3 and at MAP15 of Plutonia. After I finish those, I might try Doom 64.
