    Umbra of Fate

    Visually impressive, i love the color scheme and the way dynamic lights were used. Truly a sight to behold. The texture usage was outstanding, combining both doom and quake. The visuals are complemented by amazing music, which changes as you progress through the level, it keeps you in the zone, which is another great thing about this wad, its really immersive. I also really like the little story interludes, some great lovecraftian influence in here, you can tell the author has put a lot of work into these 3 things. The gameplay on the other hand could use some work, i dont mind hard wads, i tend to play my fair share of slaughtermaps and hard stuff, but, i feel like some changes here are annoying, mainly the speed of the projectiles, which in case of the barons for example, was infuriating. Also the level design could use some work, in a lot of rooms you would quickly realize that the best way to tackle them was to go in, alert the monsters, and then go out and shoot them through a doorway. I attached a picture, i wanna give a few thoughts regarding that room. First off, amazing idea, i love how the lava flows up and down and it prevents you from standing on a few places, however, the monster placement, combined with the restricted movement, proved to be very annoying, what could've been a great room ended up as one of the places which i hated the most on the wad. I feel like im being a bit too harsh, but that room could've used a bit more playtesting I think. Overall, great piece of work, i really enjoy the atmosphere, the story, the music and the way it all meshes together. I though about rating it 3/5 because the level design and gameplay let me down a bit, but you cant really dismiss that this is a great wad and a fantastic way to pass the time. edit: boss fights were really fun!

  5. Wow man, thanks for the detailed reply, im gonna mess around with those ideas. Ill try and see if i can find night sky textures and mess about with that. I've also been looking at other wads (such as tcotda) and it seems like they use some type of blue-ish fog or sth around those lines. Anyway, thanks man, you're a legend
  6. I've been messing around with fog values, dynamic lights and so on, but i havent been able to pull it off very well. Any tips? Id be very grateful!

    Thanks dude! Ill try and upload it tonight. And, regarding the RAR filetype, there's no particular reason at all, I just have winRAR installed. Are the other file types better than RAR?

    Thank you so so much for the compliment! I guess I took inspiration from Winter's Fury, which is one of my all time favorite wads. Back then, when I was 10 years old, I made maps for warcraft 3, which were pretty rubish, but still, I managed to learn a lot, and the community seemed to enjoy them, which really made me happy :D. I also made a few maps for C&C Generals, and Red Alert 2.

    Im glad you enjoyed it! It was sure fun learning how to make it. Thanks a lot for the feedback, and yeah, some areas were super cramped, ill try and improve that on my next project. I guess I placed way too much effort on the detail and not enough into the gameplay.
