The Dirty Dozen Cross of Iron The Big Red One The Longest Day All Quiet on the Western Front I feel that Triumph of the Will has to be mentioned in here even though Leni Reifensthal was a disgusting person her influence on the perception of the Nazis and her use of propaganda is undeniable Doom usually gets brought up as being a hodge podge of difference influences and hobbies the team had while making the game but i think, the same approach could be made with the Wolfenstein games but the well of what they took influences from is smaller and less cross refferential. Private Ryan and Inglorious Bastards are good touch points when talking about the last 2 games. But i feel more so from 3D up to about RTCW as much as they played fast and loose with what the SS Paranomal devision really looked into with films they were specifically working from that same kind of space as stuff from the (40s-70s) ,good tough all american men going out their to protect freedoms etc(even if the US"s place in that story is slightly more dubious than what fiction will tell you) shoot outs in tight corridors, tense pacing and the like. (pardon me for getting rambly, it happens from time to time)

I've been playing through RTCW lately, never got the chance to play it at the time outside of a demo of the PS2 version gotta say even with its flaws (enemies when shot aren't as responsive as i like/bullet spongey, kinda forgettable score, kinda heavy on the instant death) at its core it really is a solid little shooter from the early 2000s what about you lot where do you rank it in the series? do you have issues with it? how many times did you mash quick save/quick load? that one terrible stealth level YOU KNOW THE ONE!

ive really gotten into playing Quake 1 lately because ive never played it before until now but i gotta say i think the game is fantastic, it controls smoothly, the OST is made up of all the similar kind of dark ambient music that i loved in Doom 64 weapons sound nice i love it its such a odd grimey looking game sucks i never to to play it earlier i really wanna try out some of the mods

ive got a few ideas hmmm i think a WAD where all the aesthetics are inspired by like West African art and colour designs would be interesting (im half-Ghanaian on my dads side) ive seen people go medieval or Egyptian so why not that, theres a whole bunch of tribes like Yoruba,Gha,Ashanti who have their own designs and aesthetics to take influence from also and this is weirdly inspired by Euro Truck Simulator 2 of all things a WAD where you can pick and choose what kind of missions you want to take (ive seen people talk about wanting non linear levels a WAD as like a real headfuck audio visual kinda thing (inspired by like ASMR,lucid dreams Llamasoft games especially Polybius and Space Giraffe) and just to please the dork in me a WAD with a heavy regional rap or grime soundtrack seriously theres old instrumentals from people like Waifa(Slew Dem), DJ Marsta, Maniac hell even some of those old Devil mix dubs that Wiley made that i think would sound really cool in a wad a single map thats basically a siege level where enemies are hoaring in on one space and you have to fend yourself off from them for as long as possible until you reach an exit down below and last one a WAD as influenced by like i dunno Isaac Babels Red Cavelry which is a collection of short stories or like Frantz Fanon/Battle of Algiers/Spook by the door guriella military kinda thing Nine Inches idea of adding a scoring system is always good, was replaying Ketsui and i like how that game prods you to get up close with bosses/enemies

AncientRain replied to Jimmy's topic in WAD Releases & Development
I made my first map ever and i actually feel kinda proud to be a part of a big project like this (even though i think my map pales in comparisons to others) thank you to Jimmy, Pinchy,Rott and everybody else involved in this, great turn out we all did our best -

i was thinking about this, didnt Hexan incorporate basically incorporate alot of the ideas Hall originally had for Doom anyway? i do agree with Zulk in that from what i have seen the community has taken Doom in to far more ambitious places than he originally imagined
-
I tend to play carefully but when i need to i can get really agressive I know many of the WADs reccomend that you play on UV but considering how good i am at Doom i tend to stick at Hurt Me Plenty,i dont think im quite ready for UV yet
