I keep forgetting that Doomworld exists. Dunno why. I even play Doom every now and then (when I am not knee-deep in Half-Life anyways), but the existence of this community, and most importantly, my account, is just a constantly escaping enigma from my mind. Other than that, don't really engage in any vices. Just yo regular "normie", never felt the pressure to drink or smoke. Have to thank everybody I know I guess, so far. I don't know what I am missing, that is good about it I guess.
  3. I would say "no" because its a waste of resources to delete the little I have from Doom memories. I am just starting up, anyways.
  4. A lot of modern gaming elements are being discussed, yet I haven't witnessed any sort of discussion over "special vision modes" in games. At least on PC, the game would tell you to press "V" or any other button to activate a special "sight", "vision" or "eye" where suddenly everything is blurry and dark sans items, NPCs and occasionally mechanisms, doors and traps which become highlighted. I guess this is useful for relaying info on positions of this and that, but is it really that neccesary? Can such a element be replaced with something else? With what would you replace it (if you would like to)? Can this element be used in FPS games more effeciently? Also when did this trend start to get used?
  5. And I am myself as well :P I wish I was a superhuman with telekinetic powers but here I am :D
  6. I don't care if it is a prank. Rest I care deeply so.
  7. I am looking at 40oz's comment and I see heresy. Half Life 2 IS NOT Doom. Doom IS NOT the ideal shooter game. Half Life 2 had excellent gameplay. Doom also had excellent gameplay. But Half Life 2 bases it's gameplay on creativity and experimentation. Doom is more arcade like. Half Life 2 had the fucking gravity gun. But even if you only used the Zero-Field Energy Manipulator when it was absolutely essential, the rest of the gameplay was great because of solid shooting mechanics, beautifully translated from 1998 into Source. Also, no cutscenes at all. The player was in control of his actions all the time (sans several minutes of all episodes together whenever the player/Gordon Freeman was pinned down by something, rather than just locked into talking with NPCs). Yeah, scripted sequences, the bane of old shooters, I understand that, but if you don't like scripted sequences, get Garry's Mod and fuck with the game as much as you like. And look, there is a Doom source port for GMod as well, called gmDoom, and you can play the entirety of Half Life 2 and episodes with the gameplay of Doom. But you cannot change the essence of Half-Life, and what makes Half-Life; Half-Life. Half-Life has a way of telling stories, too bad they are not demo-compactible nor playable with prboom+, boo hoo. If you have a issue, don't use Half-Life, one of the best FPSes, as a scapegoat. Half-Life is not Doom. Half-Life does not posses the same gameplay as Doom. Half-Life shares a common ground with Doom with both being shooters, but nothing else. If this was a "prank" or a troll attempt, I don't care. This goes for everyone.

My bestest friend drew me as a cat demon thingy for my birthday (just so that she wouldn't spend any money on me, clever move). After I stopped squealing with joy, I tried repaying her the favor by drawing her:
  9. Why is everyone so surprised and dissapointed lol Even I as a diehard half-life fan knew there wasn't going to be the third episode. Valve deals with making popular mods standalone games, it's their bread and butter. Counter-strike? Started as a mod. Dota? Started as a mod. Team Fortress? Started as a mod. Left 4 Dead? Started as a mod. They said the guy who made the MINERVA mod had been hired to work on Episode 3, ask him then. Also, if someone would want to see the Borealis, play the "Missing Information" mod for Half Life 2. There are few levels dealing with the adventures inside the titular ship, although with no cool teleportational stuff mentioned in the document above, and you only go along with a guy named "Odell". Who is to blame the dissappearence of Half Life 3? It isn't Valve, but whoever leaked Half Life 2 while it was still in the production. Because of that asshole, they had to swamp out the entire game and delete/replace most, if not all the stuff, which also involved the Borealis arc, and a satisfying end to the serie. Heh, ironic. Almost feels like we are in a timeline that went wrong. If only someone could dial back to September 2003, find the hacker and stop him before he leaks the files... Who knows what kind of a world would we live in?
  10. "Business" always kinda perked me. When you look at it, one think it is pronounced "busy-ness" and not "buise-ness", so I sometimes write it down as "buisness". It is like reading "Wednesday". When you look at it, its "Wed-ness-day", but everyone pronounces it as "When-sday". English language stronk.
  11. A simple map, two-three, episode-wad or even a megawad. Including gameplay mods if you make them. How much time does it take you to make them? Not asking how much hours precisely, just the average. Asking because some people build maps out of nothing in little time and some people take several weeks to make one. So what is the average? Bonus question: If you were given a short deadline (say 3-6 months, or for extra points, a 1-2 weeks), would you complete it in time?
  12. That is, if you did try at all. Asking because I am interested. I had basically grown up playing Half Life and I had managed to adapt to the reloading function quite quickly, at a cost of having a small temporary mental repercussion when trying out Doom for the first time. So where did you first encounter reloadable weapons and how did you react? EDIT: I guess I asked Doomers who's first FPS was Doom or Wolf3D. This may include people older than the game(s) and people who miracously haven't heard of FPS games til now and decided to start with Doom first.

    Your perfect FPS

That sounds nearly as exactly as this short mod for Half-Life that I played. It is called "Night at the Office", and you are put into the shoes of a simple office worker who is employed in this international postal service of sort. Eitherwho, the company building gets invaded by this group of terrorist who had seized most of the floors, and you indeed get to choose to either save yourself or save the others. Combat is realistic, although you can still dash around, that isn't neccesarily a smart thing. The atmosphere is quite tense, since the terrorists had pretty much hunted down almost everyone else and are hunting you out. You have to go from floors to floors, backtrack sometimes as well, to find a way to escape or put a end to it. The only difference from your idea is that this mod doesn't have procedural level generation nor randomizing floors. It is pretty much heavily scripted to work this or that way. But your idea was eerily similar to the idea you proposed and oh god I am having flashbacks of the mod. If anyone thinks of playing it, the mod can be found on moddb. Fair warning though, sound quality is all but quality. Takes a bit from the atmosphere, but still, a well thought out design.

    Your perfect FPS

I am going to take this one seriously instead of just going: "Its Doom" just to look like I don't give a fuck and to appear cool for it. Perfect FPS would include all possible action "dimensions" into play. Performing stunts, acrobatic moves, or even "brutal/glory" kills/moves as well. FPS may be all about shooting, but even Doom feels tiring time to time. If they could take all those fancy-pantsy third person sandboxes from all those fancy gaming consoles (stuff like GTA, Just Cause, Uncharted and crap), combine them, set them in the first perspective with a dynamic camera to follow (as to actually see like you are looking with your own eyes), and port it over to the PC, they would have a perfect combo of action and FPS needed for a super enjoyable game. But no, the market ALWAYS needs ANOTHER open world exploring sandbox 3rd person shooter set in a exotic location with pirates and tyrants, because originality is overrated. I say, combine Doom 2016's shooting and slaughter, with Mirror's Edge parkour/movement, add some Elder Scrolls magick to the fray, along with special abilities from MMORPGs (which no one cannot apparently dodge), add difficulty options with some emphasizing atmosphere and story, and some emphasizing scaringly accurate realism seen from ArmA. I think I could play that without a single drop of un-interest, and considering my taste, that is quite hard to achieve, purely because I don't care about skill or competition.

    Underrated/Overlooked games

The Beginners Guide. Hands down the most emotional game I ever played. Also really inspirational. I recommend this to every mapper ever. Besides the story, the design was just... epic. Anyone who takes a good look at the stuff there should pick up a trick or two. Other than that, I feel that it is underrated, dunno why, but I don't see much praise for it. I also imagine people recoiling when they hear that this is a walking simulator type of game.

Myth/Fantasy Creatures you would kill in Doom

Some sort of magical beings. I say, of "natural" elements, like trents, fairies, will o' wisps, crocoligators and alidiles. Maybe creatures like the Daedra from TES games? Either way I am tired of hellish creatures and stuff. Anything that is named "Hell [X]" or "[X] of Hell" is overused. Also all Blahmoretaps, Luciefurries or CyberRaymonds and basically all iterations on hell barons and cyberdemons are getting annoying. Not to mention all the Cocoademons and their variations. Fightning Darkness Cacodemons Dark Demons of Darkness is annoying, not original.

    Who are your friends?

I myself am nothing more than a lazy, but optimistic fuck who likes movies, Source games, and talking about them. My social circle doesn't consist of any special characters though: DC: Smart, bit quirky. The one who keeps me updated on the world (of pop culture) and my #1 source of information on movies and shows. She is the one who recommends me most of the stuff I watch, and I can talk with her about it. I guess I knew her since forever. I consider her my "good clone". IT: Musically-oriented one. Can play a piano. She likes classical music and symphonic rock/metal. She often nails stuff on her synthesizer, but is too humble to realize. Also likes watching game-shows and playing Minecraft. CN: Edgequeen who over-dramatisizes stuff and acts like a overly-confident anime protagonist. Isn't a weeaboo though. She is athletic, and has apparently "fired a gun" before, and is my friendly "rival" when it comes to stuff (our never-ending debate about artificial intelligence comes to mind, we are both too stubborn to give up) PP: The otaku, according to DC. Draws anime stuff (she taught me how to draw!), listens to japanese songs, watches all sorts of anime (specially complex titles or stuff that lasts FOREVER), but otherwise isn't that cringy to hang out with, although her anime/manga is getting to her everytime she casually says "Nani?" in a regular conversation. LLA: Devout christian, while not too annoying like people think they behave, can be a bit of a drag in a conversation, since her replies can be seen from miles away, although she can suprise us all once in a while, and teach us all something valuable. I would call her a "combat nun" because while she herself is morally flawless, she doesn't hesitate to help any of us in midst of a crisis, usually caused by a sudden lack of homework or a intermediate assault caused by exams :P

    Tell us about your pets...

Well, yeah, I used "Era Di Cate" before like: EXTERMINATION CATTT!!! while playing multiplayer games. However, it all changed when the fire nation attacked when my friend who saw the nick told me "Era di catto!" or something, and I asked her "u wut m8" and she told me. Well, there are two possible outcomes, judging by Google: - "It was Cate", which sounds like a badass western movie-like introduction to a dangerous gunslinging chick who just rode in to the town. - "Era of Cate's", which sounds awesome as well because I imagine a feudal period where I was a king/emperor of a country which I ruled with a golden heart and a flaming sword. I feel kinda stupid calling myself "Age Of Cats" so I guess my pizza-loving italia-boo thought it was smart to let me think it means "It is Cate, motherfuckers!"

    Tell us about your pets...

I still have a cat. Name is Cate 2 because me and my friends and family are unimaginative (Cate is kinda my nickname, and "Era Di Cate" is italian for "Here is the cat!", according to my friend who "knows" italian). Either way Cate 2 is a kitten-becoming-a-cat mashup of dark and light gray fur. As a kid I wanted to teach a kitten how to fight people a la Snark, but with age I became smarter, and I kinda consider Cate 2 my spirit animal's clone's pet's mascot. And it was by the time I was smarter I got Cate 2 from a friend who has a friend who has a friend who has a friend who has a friend who has a friend who has a friend who has a friend--- who has a friend who recently got kittens, and I was given Cate 2!

Things that were cancelled and still hurts

So many stuff to count from: With regards to Half-Life, "The Specialists" mod. It is beyond me why everyone stopped playing it and never picked it up again. Its a multiplayer shooter better than Counter-strike in every aspect. What happened?! I still play it to this day, thanks to bots. I also hate how they scrapped the Half Life 2 beta's progress and moved the entire plot around. The beta sounded so romantic, somehow. I bet that is why they never made episode 3, the wound on my heart healed a long time ago. Also what happened to all those mods that tried to recreate the Doom Bible? In general, unused concept art in video games makes me cry. Take what Fallout 3 was supposed to be. A beautiful turn based RPG. I could use that shit. With regards to movies, I never cry to un-finished sequels. A single movie in a serie can be enough for me. Somehow, some movies fuck it up when adding a sequel. I guess "The Golden Compass" could use a sequel. Especially with that massive battle at the end. I have a feeling that the new "Dark Tower" movie won't follow the book format, but if its going to throw several glances at the multiverse theories and everything in the books, I think I could let it slip. I also hope that "Ready Player One" doesn't get cancelled at the last moment pls deliver it pls pls pls.

    Your Vision of Hell?

To me, Hell sounds like a very miserable and very cold place to be in. No fantasy stuff, no boiling lava, no instruments of torture, no barons or lords, just a neverending hilly land surrounded in black and death. Hell should be a miserable place because you would be stuck there forever, and you cannot do anything, not even scrape the ground, and you cannot kill yourself. I consider Hell in Doom to be a alien dimension, kinda like Xen, shaped up by the dezinens there, to be a mixture of guts flowing around, tough castles, this and that.

I pronounce it: GIFFF with a rock-hard G. Jif feels like a naughty word, so GIFFF feels nicer for me to say.

Non-id Software games that you like to play

Umm... Half-life and similar stuff. I played almost every Source based game and mod. So far I have really enjoyed: - All Half-life titles - Portal games - Opposing Force and Blue Shift - Azure Sheep - Sweet Half-life - L4D(2) - Half-Rats (all of them, waiting for full release of Parasomnia) - Fistful of Frags was really nice - Sven Coop - They Hunger I could list everything but I am stopping at these ten. I can mention TFC and TF2 aswell.
