Creating maps is quite interesting and can be somewhat complex, however, it is very entertaining and I think it is an excellent hobby, someday I will be able to do something great.
Like I already said it took me 1 year,though I didn't know how to use the editor even some months in and I did the "use a ton of custom stuff thingy" noons do and I didn't play doom for months once so you will probably be good in around 6 months or so,it varies.
