    Cultists of Doom Slayer

I don't mind most of the mechanics since they could work without the "super strong power fantasy" thing, so it's more of a marketing/identity thing to me. You could either make the Slayer a different character or find some good ways to make him and DG the same character but regardless, i feel like Doom never really needed a "universe" trying to explain and tie everything, because to me, a Doom universe means something else, like new but fitting gameplay, designs, mechanics, guns, enemies, levels, etc but not really "lore" or worldbuiling, specially when the stories in the first games are inconsistent because it's not a focus. If there's something that probably got worse in lore or direction than Doomguy, it's probably Hell, because looking less "abstract" and having UAC creating most enemies either makes Hell less of the main villain or makes them weak, so that might as well contradict the power level aspect of "one guy vs Hell", if Hell gets its power level lowered. I've seen someone say the DoomHunter's design is weird because it doesn't look that practical (like with the exposed tubes) and that could be another reason why it should have been demons who created their enemies. (specially if they just do it with god like/supernatural magic) Because UAC scientists creating a cybernetic demon would think more about how their creations should make sense because, you know, science. Demons probably don't care about logic since they defy it and they're either dumb (some of them) or just find ways to alter reality because of their evil existence. Then again, regardless of how i see this, it's still someone's vision and there is always going to be something interesting and good about it. (plus, the devs probably felt exhausted before the delay, so i hope they don't really throw away things that they worked hard on because of nitpicky complaints, even if some come from me) Still think the DoomHunter looks cool, though. Edit: also, some of the stuff that is from these games is why some different art directions in a new game could be good because Doom already had recurring ideas executed differently but it's mostly from the original games (with some exceptions like the Doom 3 HK inspiring his new designs) so seeing the Marauder or Doom's Heaven executed differently in another Doom game could be cool. Also, the Soul Cube was in Doom 2 RPG and had a unique design in it.

Doom Eternal Pre-Order & Deluxe Edition Trailer

I kinda would like to see Marauder as an enemy type because: Bosses like Cyberdemons and Doomhunters are kind of like artillery support for demons. (specially since Doomhunters and Doom 3's Sabaoth are technically tanks) He'd be to the night sentinel what possessed UAC soldiers are to UAC, from the "used to work with you but now he's your foe" aspect to carrying the same weapons as you (Super Shotgun) and it means that Earth isn't the only place suffering from possession and Hell corruption. (imagine possessed angels even) He may not work that much as a rival from a design aspect (mirrors the Praetor suit but not the traditional Doomguy appeal enough, probably because he's too integrated in the new art direction that still feels new to the series) and a possible gameplay one (specially with the focus on Doomguy's power level in the game and most rivals are like the player's moveset but with differences/sometimes stronger to feel intimidating, while the Marauder has an axe, SSG, skull things that look like grenades but still needs more to his arsenal) so maybe he could have phases where his design changes to either resemble Doomguy in design or at least gameplay, so he gets shoulder gun and all. (in fact, i'd like to see him make another appearance at some point if it expands on some ideas around him like that) I like the idea that demons that were supposed to be single characters could be multiple due to some weird logic somehwere and not just because they're a class, specially if it means species or characters that should have stayed dead can be back occasionally.

    Cultists of Doom Slayer

I'm starting to get a bit worried about this because making Doomguy stronger and the Doom Slayer aspect isn't bad but a cult around DG seems a bit of a stretch. Like, we're at a point where people think Doomguy's main appeal is his power level when he was also a guy who suffers just to succeed at his job multiple times, even with the difficulties from it. Or that he only feels anger and no other emotion, so it feels like flanderization at times. It's why i liked they brought back the pain sounds because a hero having challenges/difficulties makes him interesting, so i hope they're not trying to make him super perfect or anything. I won't be surprised if at least a portion of this has to do with marketing. And i also hope it's not an excuse to make him super strong in gameplay (which can be justified with hard levels and tough enemies), specially if the Marauder is expected to be a rival for Doomguy or at least a strong enemy that can SSG blast us to make things interesting. In fact, Marauder doesn't even have an arm blade or shoulder gun so i wonder how they'd make a character/boss/enemy mirror Doomguy when his design mirrors the Praetor's suit color scheme and red dot but not the helmet (which might arguebly be the most iconic aspect of any Doom armor except 3) since characters like Wario, DMC's Vergil and Shadow the Hedgehog are obviously meant to draw some parallels and opposites to Mario/Dante/Sonic. I feel like if a classic Marauder existed, it'd be a former human type who plays like an AI/bot deathmatch player whose design is Doomguy's sprites but with red eyes in the visor and horns in the helmet.

    McFarlane Toys DoomSlayer Review

A shame if the articulation is limited, because a cool thing to do with a Doomguy figurine or some other Doom toys is to make sprites for them, like how id did some of the sprites early in the series. Also, i said this already but in the next game, collectibles should be based off real life/existing official Doom merch. We've had merchandise based off the Marineguys, so this idea is like the opposite.

    Difficulty Modes

With all the mechanics and content in the game, there could be a lot of potential with this. Like enemies acting more aggressive instead of stunned when in Glory Kill mode or even some occasional hitscan for zombiemen.

Doom Eternal Pre-Order & Deluxe Edition Trailer

Video was deleted then reuploaded. So far, things look nice. New locations, glimpse of the Cybermanc, Cyberdemons as enemies, Pinkies with yellow eyes, whatever the new Plasma Rifle alt fire may be, whether or not we could ever see Doomguy's face under the demonic skin, if the Marauder is also an enemy type too... Doom 64 giving the Lost Soul green blood does look weird.

    Doom Eternal Delayed(March 2020)

Something that i'm surprised nobody noticed (and is irrelevant enough, that id should have fixed it by now) is this room in which the windows used to be transparent in QC18 but in E3, they were pitch black. Either they were closed (like if this game would ever have DN3D type of interactivity and you could open them at any time) or something technical could have happened to the background to not show up? The fact you can see a 1 up there resembles a rule from Romero himself that is "if the player can see something from a certain spot, he should be able to get there", even if it's a secret. (example: that one soulsphere in E1M3)

    The New BFG

Probably because they treated the weapon as a "just in case" type of thing. Hope it's not just a button press like what's happening with the chainsaw now. But yeah, a BFG that shoots a spread of homing projectiles, some of which going for the same enemy depending on the current enemy count, could be something. Might as well be what this https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=M9jYFneBvWo could have been.

    Doom Eternal Delayed(March 2020)

Speaking of preoders, i wonder if the bonuses would become available in some way or another, like a regular DLC. Like, something that makes them more accessable or at least not really lost in time.

I played the Mars Core demo ... a lot

Not sure if he's going to be a centaur type but a centaur enemy could be a cool idea. Also, since he resembles the classic HK, he could bleed green. Something i thought of is a "cyber Baron" whose design resembles the demons in the original cover art for Doom 1, so they're red and have yellow horns.

We haven't seen anything besides artwork, for that "gladiator" HK character in the alt cover.

When Doom looks more cartoony than Serious Sam...

I thought a "realistic" Doom game would have been Hideous Destructor or something close.

    Hugo loves Prometheus confirmed :)

I just worry this lore makes things sound a bit "too alien", like i know Doom was never accurate with its portrayals of Hell but i feel like there has to be a line drawn for when comparisons between demons and aliens can stop. Mostly because Doom maybe be science-fiction on one half, but on the other it's also fantasy with religious related references, supernatural, magic, even a little bit of horror that sits next to the action etc. The fact that they're introducing Heaven to Doom means there's a lot they can do with it, specially since Hell in the originals felt like you could do a lot with it. I feel like rings with eyes (a noticeable potrayal of angles, ophanim) could be an enemy. For what i know, if Doom games are connected, then Hell just has different planes/layers of existence that represent its different looks and the dimension as a whole existed before time.

That and maybe reveal some more new stuff besides just concept art, since we're on a longer wait until the game is out. Spoiling too much is possible but i'm sure they can still keep some surprises.

When Doom looks more cartoony than Serious Sam...

I'd say Doom always had horror but it was more on its theme/visuals/story rather than the gameplay itself, which is why 3 looks like the odd one more often. D3 is also one of those games people think suffers just from being different rather than the execution, specially when i keep thinking about cut content and how we were robbed of the "YOUR KIND ARE OVER" blue commando lines. Even if Eternal goes a bit too much with the arcade video gamey side of things, i feel like old FPS sort of had the same ideas as any other genre, even with Doom and ROTT being opposite ways on arcade elements, which sets them apart from 7th gen military FPS trying to be realistic and look like they appeal to non gamers. (and i guess nowadays, that's what cinematic, over the shoulder, sad dad games are for) Something i don't think 3 or 2016 really carry from classic Doom (at least sometimes) is how levels work, when you consider Romero's level design rules, some of the other devs like Sandy or American and the overall history of megawads. It's why i like that part in E3 where Eternal is said to have different things thrown at you in most levels. (the clip where they first reveal tentacles and radsuit's return) Because they're making sure there's more variety of level situations and scenarios, which is something modern FPS either forgot to do or did it badly because when the core gameplay is really basic and lacking in mechanics, your attempt at variety is just sections that play radically different and just happen once. It's not just about the variety in levels, but also when it fits the game, similar to old Doom getting maps to this day because the games are like a tool box with many things to play with. (also explains when official levels get "gimmicky" or creative like plutonia's map 11 or how tnt handles its icon of sin map, specially the death teleporters part) This is also what makes you realize SnapMap had potential but wasn't handled in the best way.

Here's some footage of it from PAX Aus. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6XxiV9oFL7s https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=c_TKSeAZbvc He explains the same things we know as usual, but sometimes i watch these because i believe there's going to be a lot of details in the game that even wikis can miss at times. Like a glory kill similar to feeding an Arachnotron his grenade, but instead, Doomguy puts it inside the brain body.

    Doom: Annihilation update

Speaking of the idea of an animated Doom movie, i just remembered this exists. Original source being: https://www.newgrounds.com/portal/view/252756 And looking at Wolfenstein: I think this one came from an animator's personal site, if i recall.

    Eternal release date...i bet u...

Oh and i almost forgot, at least the chainsaw in the DoomHunter is a little D64 reference. But i do think D3 sometimes feels less restricted in terms of designs, considering the Bruiser in RoE had a screen for a mouth. But on the other hand, new Doom games seem like they had a bit more to offer in terms of enemy mechanics, even though i fear Eternal doesn't focus on creating monsters' abilities as much as they do with weapon alt fires. I wonder what this official D64 rerelease can even offer to feel fresh since Doom 2 in some modern ports had No Rest For The Living.

    Doom Eternal Delayed(March 2020)

Most people seem to forget what actually happened to DNF. If i'm not too wrong, Broussard couldn't stop looking at a recent game engine and tell the team to throw everything and start from scratch to switch engines and make the game fancier and kept doing it until Gearbox came in to "finish" the game (i remember hearing they wanted to split stuff from the game and make it seperate DLC) and the references/easter eggs/jokes feeling outdated or out of place have to do with the different time periods the game was in, during development time. Doom Eternal on the other hand, will keep its engine, has a stronger direction to the point even the "lore" and art direction seem to be part of the marketing and id software already have been in dev hell in probably more than once, specially if you look at the cancelled Doom 4 before Doom 2016. And with some people mentioning the Arachnotron's glory kills lacking his death scream, i remember when people criticized E3's first reveal of Doom 16 for looking too brown and yellow until id made the final release look a bit better. Also, looking at Eternal: * The game continues 2016's art direction of everything being detailed and id even mentioned the amount of graphical detail in like QC 18. * The possible amount of content. * Invasion. * Switch port in the same original release date as other ports, along with Stadia. * The gore system of enemies being disfigured and destroyed while alive. I can see the main reason for a delay being a technical one.

When Doom looks more cartoony than Serious Sam...

I think he meant more the textures and proportions? i still don't really mind how the game looks but the solution could always come in the form of a few tweaks instead of a big change. We've had fanart of classic Doom monsters that made them look scarier, without changing their designs too much.

    Eternal release date...i bet u...

I don't mind the general enemy designs but i do agree on the whacky mood and the idea of the Doomguy being super OP, which then makes me worry about how enemies play, since Doom 2016 had an alright enemy roster, even when considering some potential improvements. I do think the art style has the issue of "too much fucking detail" visual noise which might explain any technical problems in the engine. Also, the Archvile didn't come with the mouth tubes. Also, speaking of the Pewter figurines (which did gave Archvile the mouth tubes), i wonder if they ever thought of basing collectibles in the game based off real Doom merchandise. Like this snowboard with an unique Doom artwork.

    Doom Eternal Delayed(March 2020)

FF7R and DE are completely different games for different audiences, so i don't really see that much of a correlation. DE seems to also be on more platforms, including the Stadia.

    Eternal release date...i bet u...

So far, a lot of things look good and only some stuff like how the Pain Elemental plays is what i think is lame but if they're going to polish the game further, then that's good. I just realised March 20 may also be the date for the DE artbook. Also, i wonder if someone's going to make a DE mod for classic Doom just because. (IF they look at the available info about the game and make it somewhat polished, since Doom Eternal XP seems to carry a whole different concept)

    Doom: Annihilation update

If anything, Doomguy is two things at once. He's meant to be you the player, since he doesn't have some details, so you get to be the Doom marine and go through Hell. But he's also his own individual at times that beats his corrupt boss and had a cute pet rabbit, while 64 stated him having nightmates, laughing when discovering one of the secret levels and him choosing to stay in Hell and 2016 had him care little about certain UAC stuff/people but still backed up an AI he assumed wasn't evil, liked cute dolls and didn't harm the people at Phobos. I mean, if id really wanted him to be an empty vessel, he wouldn't have his faced in the HUD. Most of this "the story/protagonist doesn't matter" feels less like an intentional choice and more of a case of the gameplay being too important, the story and protagonist were just there. And it's usually seen through John Carmack and Romero but what about the other people at id, like Sandy Peterson saying the Archvile just wants to help his partners? I guess another reason to see Doomguy as its own person is to see a character associated with the most important FPS, as if it was the genre's Mario, in case BJ Blazkowicz, Gordon Freeman or Master Chief aren't the ones to fill his throne.
