  2. > And I never said it has to be Doomworld Community's. What I meant is commercial iwads from id/raven/velocity, which should be clear from my examples. Sorry I misunderstood. > Yes, voting for commercial iwads from id/raven/velocity is redundant, and doesn't seem fair to pwads. I'd agree if commercial/canon wads were occupying top N entries, pushing community works down. They don't, this means that their position is uncertain - therefore, it should be decided by community. And again, I see nothing wrong in showing appreciation for the originals. > mentioned are marked with different color than the "usual" wads The problem are borderline wads that can be considered "usual" by some and "other" by others. What I can do is to make links for those wads lead to wiki instead of idgames/download pages where possible to give more context. Edit: some links updated.
  3. Billa, thanks for voting! You still have 1 point left. Ravendesk, thanks for voting! Tally updated. __________________________ @doombedoom In general, I'd like too keep policing the list to minimum. > Doom2, Plutonia, TNT:Evilution, No Rest For The Living The list is not "Top WADs by Doomworld Community", it's for what Doomworld Community likes. If it was "Top WADs by Doomworld Community", I'd have to exclude works published on ZDoom forums, Doomer Boards, etc. > BTSX E3 I think voting for WIP is okay, I see it as another way to support authors. It's like "I know it's going to be good". > Custom music packs I wholly agree with Dragonfly. > Nuts, ... This is a good point. The value of a WAD is not always in playability. It's may even be not in quality. I believe that someone may simply be happy that these things exists, for whatever reason. Also, there is another thing. I want this list to represent all of community. There is at least one voting post that I suspect to be a joke, and it's still counted. > Chillax Yes. Some people like it, and it has to be expressed in the list. Otherwise the list won't show the truth. > 1993.wad It's a horror gameplay mod. It's typical for a gameplay mod to not include maps. > 2castles If it's a lost media, so be it. At its time it had enough significance so it's remembered many years later. A short description from Soundblock, a well-known Doom veteran, is enough.

  7. doombedoom, thanks for the update! Tally updated. I don't mean that we should add wads to this list just to make it longer, but come on, we're 2 wads short of half a thousand!

Looking for a simple trigger activation mod

My guess is that projectile hits a different linedef. If a switch is behind some kind of frame around it, then a big projectile will collide with the frame instead of the switch, and I think splash damage doesn't trigger switches.

Looking for a simple trigger activation mod

My add-on m_Gizmos allows throwing junk (zero-damage hitscan attack).
  10. Sound to Screen is an add-on for GZDoom games. It displays sounds on screen depending on their position on the map. It may be useful for people who play without sound or people with hearing impairment. Download Source code Discord Feature suggestions and bug reports are welcome. Playtesting is much appreciated. Implementation Notes due to the way Sound to Screen works, it may reduce performance, especially on maps with high enemy count; doors and elevators that only wait to move are detected as producing sound. There is no way to detect this properly at the moment. Inspiration Toby Accessibility Mod by Alando1. Making Games Better for the Deaf and Hard of Hearing by Game Maker's Toolkit. This mod is a part of m8f's toolbox.
  11. Or, it's possible to make an EventHandler, override WorldThingRevived event and manipulate killed_monsters and total_monsters. Then no Arch-vile overriding needed.

Mr. Friendly: A Boy And His Barrel has an exotic mechanic of protecting and moving a beloved barrel: Obligatory mention of Hideous Destructor, which changes gameplay formula quite dramatically by adding generous amounts of realism: Edit: also, Cyberdreams:
  17. Thelokk, Keykhosrau, doombedoom - thank you for voting! TasAcri - you cannot vote for a single WAD - it would be too easy! The rule is at least 10 WADS. Tally updated.
  18. Ex Inferis, thanks for the update! I've left your old name, I'll change it if you want. Tally updated. Edit: bonus info: 49.64% of total points are given to Doom II 32-map megawads. 63.79% if also counting Final Doom and considering everything with 27 maps or more a megawad.

  20. LadyMistDragon, thanks for your update! 9+9+8+7+6+4+4+3+2+2+1+1=56, so the last entry (Back to Saturn X, Episode 1) is not counted. Tally updated. Also, I put the spreadsheet online so you can sort and filter WADs to your heart's content. The online spreadsheet will not be updated regularly. You can submit a single (1) point for your work (per mapset), and only if: You honestly like your work. Your work is not present in the list at the moment. Your work has a project page that I can link to (forum post, idgames page, GitHub, etc). Some people may be against allowing voting for your own maps. My motivation is the following. This thread is about personal opinions. An author is also a player, and they can enjoy their own creation as much as they enjoy the others'. There's nothing wrong in liking your work, there's nothing wrong in being proud of it, and there's nothing wrong in expressing that. The 1-point and no-presence limitations are here because the thread is "Community Top", so other people are needed to push an entry to the top.

What was the first Doom source port you have used?

PrBoom+, because it's a dependency for Freedoom on Debian. Yes, I started my Doom hobby from Freedoom, though I played a few Doom levels when I was a kid.

What do you think are the cacodemon holes?

In my head-canon, these are what left of a spine and a throat. It's known that cacodemon sprite is based on astral dreadnought head, so maybe the demon that we see is only the part of the original demon. It would also explain the name, where "caco" means "bad". What if the original demon body was broken or unsuitable for battle (too bad for battle), so the only operational part (the head) was cut off? Pain Elemental's holes are the same. It would make sense if Pain Elementals were made of cacodemons by stitching other demons' parts onto them, so new parts cause constant pain. This would reflect the pain elemental sprite being created from other demon sprites.
  24. MtPain27, thanks for the update! NiGHTS108, thanks for voting! game, I'm afraid that segmenting the votes will defeat the purpose of "Top WADs of All Time". We already have "favorite 1990 WADs"/"best GZDoom maps"/"top WADs of the past 4 years"/etc which specialize in their own category. Adding another specialized thread will dilute the big picture, in my opinion. I see the solution to recent WADs being underrepresented here as more people, especially newcomers, voting and updating their votes. Mappers, don't be shy about asking fans of your maps to vote here! The rules are made so they have to vote for something else also, so it's good for everyone. Personally, I too would love to see the more recent WADs getting more activity here. The static top is boring, and I don't believe that the skill of the community doesn't grow. Before I made the graph in the OP, I expected it to be more or less an upward staircase. I made years 2020 and later bold in the tally so they stand out at least a little bit. The banner looks fantastic. If you happen to make one for this thread, I'll put it in the OP without any hesitation.
  25. Big update time! I added number of maps to the tally so megawads can be distinguished from smaller works. It doesn't represent the size of a WAD accurately because certain single maps have bigger area than some megawads, but it's good enough. As always, if you spot any mistakes, please let me know! Top 10 non-megawads (< 27 maps): Sunder SIGIL Pirate Doom Vanguard Deus Vult II No Rest for the Living Hell Ground Suspended in Dusk Lunatic Stardate 20X6 Top 10 single-map WADs: Disturbia Miasma Breach Tech Gone Bad ZDoom Community Map Project II Hurt Nuts Arcadia Demade Phobos Mission Control Brigandine Nefelibeta, tonytheparrot, rzh, Foodles, thank you for voting!
