  1. True to form, I have yet again become distracted from my current WADing project to start something new. If I were a musician, I would never finish a song... But maybe that's how prog rock became a thing too ^-^;

      Misty

      I have so many mappingΒ scraps waiting to be picked up again at some time again . But, these days I'm trying to finish what I have started and it's so worth it.Β

      I could do that with some of the stuff I made in my early teens but the contrast would be *stark*

    What Video Game Are You Currently Playing?

    A lot of DOOM Builder, Fallout 4 and Legend of Grimrock in my personal time. Where it's for the interwebs, I'm playing Dungeon Master 2, Ultima Underworld 2, Icewind Dale, STALKER: Call of Pripyat, Diablo (Modded) and Baldur's Gate. Highly rate all of them, though I'm getting up to a supremely tedious bit of UW2 (the Void) and IWD's expansion is the equivalent of a Baldur's Gate slaughter map. Spoiler alert: it's not as satisfying in the form of an isometric RPG. Someone should mod a BFG into the game to balance that out ^-^;

    The Doom Confessional Booth

    Why did I never think of combining them before?! I'm going to try loading up a slaughermap with Simpsons Doom just because I can. Cheers for this!

    Your pet peeves for what people do in doom

    I share @42PercentHealth's distaste for the most hated Pain Elementals... I may have already flipped a virtual table in discord upon seeing that jerk in the Doom Eternal teaser. Mandatory secrets to progress. Just no. Did *anyone* think The Cathedral was a good level in Heretic? No. And that's precisely bloody why! Naturally, I've been known to put these things in my own maps just to watch the world burn. Also, when watching demos and LPs, people picking up minor bonuses before a green armour/soulsphere (why bother?) and when there's a bloody obvious tell for a secret right in front of them and they just don't notice it. I won't leave jerky comments in such videos but I also probably wouldn't brake at a crossing if they were walking right in front of me as inconspicuously as the secrets they overlook. Just sayin'.

    What should Doom 5?'s Final Boss be?

    I doubt we'll see an Icon of Sin since we see its remains in Titan's Realm. That would also be consistent with @Gordon Grand's observations too. I think it would be too optimistic to hope that the I've-seen-enough-hentai-to-know-where-this-is-going tentacles are some ambivalent, Lovecraftian deity. But that would also possibly rule out a Quake reboot, which i'm also praying to the Elder Gods for... I wonder whether we need a final boss at all. The end fight could be something more like the end of Betrayal at Krondor, just killing a misguided Hayden to save the world and leaving it on a cliffhanger. Bonus points though if they give us Cybers and Masterminds like normal monsters as D2 did, as well as the Map20 showdown!

    Gaming Heads 19" Cyberdemon Statue

    Wouldn't mind a set of Cyberdemons from each of the games, myself. Each one to scale as well, since some are noticeably taller than others *glares at Doom 3 Cyberdemon*

    Flaws in Doom 16'

    Both D88M and TheGamerPhilosophe's comments ring true to me. I share a love of BD, but think that it was over-implemented in D'16. IMHO the single greatest flaw of D'16, beyond the idiot-proof "look here" glowy lights on everything, was the checkpoint save system that told you the moment you were safe and the moment that changed. In the originals, you needed to keep an ear out for a stray monster that had been let loose in another part of the map. D'16 is by no means a bad game. Far from it, it's grown on me a helluva lot. But it's just another wave-based arena shooter. I truly hope that this is done away with in Doom Eternal. Either let us save as we think fit or do away with saves altogether (other than 'start of the level' ones, of course). Then they can keep their waves and arenas and we will be none the wiser to when we're safe anyway. That will go a looooooong way to restoring that sense of dread instilled by the originals.
