Give some HL mods love too, and you're set for the afterlife too 🦊.

Could Id make another retro Doom game? What should one look like in your opinion?
seed replied to Pixel Fiend's topic in Doom General
Of course they could, but from my POV the question is not "can they" but "should they". id Software have always been innovators and moving things forward in the industry, so them doing retro games as well sounds a bit counter-intuitive to me. I think that's a job best left to other studios while id focuses on other things instead. -
Ah, I didn't know patching it up to Ultimate was also fine, heh. My bad this time, never thought about this one.
-
How so? It is part of Ultimate Doom but it's not available free-of-charge outside of it. Where did you get that info?

Plutonia is best IWAD, fite me :^).

Most indie games and retro games coming out these days are great, and I still like triple-A games, just finding it harder to find something of a particular interest to me. Got plenty of games I've never played, so I'm in no rush for new ones. Plus mods for games I still care for. Also never heard of this "double A" class, neither big budget neither indie. And the cited examples surely aren't good (Corridor 7 of all things).

When it comes to some wads or TCs where it may be worth finding all the stuff in the maps, I use the glorious "iddt" cheat at the start of each map and finish the maps that way. It's how I've played Golden Souls 2 (and I think the first one too), and I've got no regrets 🦊.

what's the nastiest single fight you've been through in a map
seed replied to roadworx's topic in Doom General
The murder squad (read: giant cloud lf Cacos) at the end of one of the latest Sunder levels probably takes the cake for me. -
What happened to Badassgamez - a classic Tomb Raider YouTuber?
seed replied to Rosh Fragger's topic in Everything Else
Never heard of the man, but that being said, the circumstances under which he disappeared, without a trace, are a bit dubious. Considering everything is gone, there may be a chance he or someone else deleted everything all by themselves, but all this is pure speculation. -
[WIP] EPOCH - The Xasermap Mixtape Megawad
seed replied to Xaser's topic in WAD Releases & Development
Yes, this does look very good 👌. Looking forward to it. -
I do a whole lot more in my freetime :^). Also not my work, but that doesn't matter.

All of Quake's boss fights because they're all gimmicks and not real fights. Apart from that, any braindead boss who spams one attack until you die. Or spams non-stop. MK9 Shao Kahn says "hi" here.

What is the equivalent of "Ultra-Violence" difficulty in Build Engine games?
seed replied to Dweller Dark's topic in Everything Else
It's Well Done. Extra Crispy was intended to be for co-op by Monolith, so very far removed from a UV equivalent. -
AvP2010, finally 100%ed its story, and soon to try out some HL2 mods.

What is the equivalent of "Ultra-Violence" difficulty in Build Engine games?
seed replied to Dweller Dark's topic in Everything Else
That would be each game's highest non-joke/co-op/multiplayer skill setting, so: Blood: Well Done (Extra Crispy was designed for co-op). Duke 3D: Come Get Some (Damn I'm Good would be its version of Nightmare!) Shadow Warrior: No Pain, No Gain. Redneck Rampage: Killbilly. Ion Fury: Ultra Viscera. Witchaven: Third skill level (?). Exhumed does not have difficulty skills. And the rest, I don't think they matter (not like Whaven does lmao). -
A Doom 64 II would indeed be nice, it's my favorite classic Doom game, same for PSX Doom.

Why does some people hate nu metal bands here
seed replied to haruko haruhara's topic in Everything Else
Feeling the same, and also a feeling I'm all too familiar with. It gets tiring to see your favorite bands turn into a parody of themselves sometimes, for no apparent reason. But I guess the memories will always remain. Will remember the time LP was epic, and forget about what followed. Doubt the change was money related though since Meteora and HT were insanely successful and made LP... what they used to be once. -
Sometimes, but mainly in puzzle maps and overly non-linear levels, those are always my nemesis since my sense of direction is so bad, and I'm not very observant either so I tend to miss the obvious sometimes too.

Truth be said it tends to be a player issue for sure, and it boils down to two main issues from my POV: a) the map is quite clearly beyond the player's skill level and thus they are incapable of enjoying it even in the slightest since they get utterly destroyed. Therefore "map bad" from the player's view. 2) it forces the player out of their comfort zone, by adopting a different approach to the gameplay than they're used to, and said playstyle is something the player is also more or less not capable of handling. So, "I don't like this, map bad". Typically, if the player is not able to provide any insight into what makes the map "bad", or how to improve it - provided the map is not what the mapper intended it tobe already - well, they might be better left doing that, and moved on from. An important thing to keep in mind here is also the fact that not all mappers try to appeal to a broad audience, and design their work to be challenging from multiple points of view, or for a specific kind of player - thinking of slaughter and mappers such as Ribbiks or skillsaw here - so if you try to play one of those, despite quite clearly not being part of the targeted demographic, you play it at your risk. Chances are, you're almost certainly not going to have a good time.

Which of the 3D games from Doom era (mid 90s) had the best music?
seed replied to Hisymak's topic in Everything Else
Hexen, Doom, Duke 3D, Rise of the Triad, Terminal Velocity, Death Rally, and if going later into the 90s, Shadow Warrior, Blood, Exhumed. -
Not possible in GZDoom, which centers your weapons while firing by default. The most you can do is changing the amount of bobbing while firing (there is a slider in... HUD settings, I think) to get it closer to vanilla, but it's never going to be the same.

Why does some people hate nu metal bands here
seed replied to haruko haruhara's topic in Everything Else
Funnily I never understood the "depressing music" thing, not as it is most commonly referred to as, with music I never particularly found even that sad in the first place, so it always striked me as odd. Maybe my standards are just different, I dunno. For me there's 2 depressing kinds of music only: Some bands within the doom metal genre, and of course, depressive black metal. The latter in particular does its job, hence why I never understood its appeal among other extreme music enthusiasts, DSBM offers a truly depressing listening experience, why listen to something that makes you feel miserable, well I dunno... As for Linkin Park since it was mentioned, I have a love/hate relationship wjth that band nowadays. I loved Meteora and Hybrid theory, but I hate what they've done afterwards, like they tried to forsake their roots entirely and just do something else instead, something that strikes me as passionless, unenthusiastic, and "just existing". Make LP great again. -
There still are where I live, though I am not sure how popular or frequented, haven't been inside them for almost a decade. I used to game there with some friends way back when I was in school, it was fun, but I always found LAN parties more fun than internet cafés.

Say if all future Doom titles were Xbox exclusive…

With Microsoft, who also have Windows? I'm certain this will absolutely never happen.
