Post Your Doom Picture (Part 2)

I think you could turn the base of the that statue into some Doom wall textures pretty easily.

    Fallout 4

I played 1, 2, 3 and NV in that order and I find NV both far closer to the spirit of the original games (immense amounts of player choice, character differentiation, gray morality) and more enjoyable than 3, though I like 3 as well. It seems unlikely but I would love it if Obsidian did a game with the FO4 engine. I'd like to note that FO1 and 2 had meaningful stories in open-world games without gating, and this has always been one of the remarkable features of the original games, IMO.
  3. I think that's worth trying. The Aquatex set is great.

Other games that use Doom's palette

I deliberated about including HACX. Since it has 100% graphics and so isn't using Doom's palette merely to remain compatible with Doom's graphics, I decided to include it. Pavera: I've never played Quiver. From this YouTube video it seems quite similar to Doom, though I noticed models for some item pickups. I think one of the lift sounds comes from Doom. The music is lovely:
  5. I agree with this. If Freedoom gets new maps they should fill empty map slots first. Only once all slots are filled should replacements take place as necessary.
  6. Here is a great new interview with Rebecca Heineman in which she discusses the troubled development of 3DO Doom at length: http://www.nodontdie.com/rebecca-heineman/

    Blasphemer discussion

IMO it would be worth adding all the permissible maps in the idgames archives that are functional/can be completed, if only to serve as placeholders. Once more enemy sprites are complete I suspect people will be more willing to create new maps for the project. I suppose if a person wanted to map for Blasphemer now, the best way might be to create a WAD of Blasphemer's textures and use it as a resource while mapping for Heretic. That way you won't be fighting placeholder monsters when you test your map.

    Blasphemer discussion

Even if the ophidian is taller, I think using a skeletal version of this new player sprite would be worthwhile simply to help the game reach SP functionality. By the way, does the addition of the new player sprite mean that Blasphemer is a functional MP game at last?

Could a recolored version of the player sprite be used for an enemy sprite?

    Great work!

Anything that makes Doom kinda like Diablo?

I would love to see that. I've always been curious about the generative possibilities of WadC compared with OBLIGE.

how about making weapons more colorful?

Could brightmaps be used to enable purple "lights' on objects, which won't turn gray with distance?

    GitHub now run by Maoists

Orchestras have tried to deal with similar unconscious sexism in the audition process. Now when performers audition for orchestras they do so behind a curtain and without shoes (because judges might infer gender from the sound of footsteps). Humankind's seeming need to create in-groups and out-groups is a nightmare.

    D! Zone - A longtime mystery

That is a great idea for a project. I had forgotten all about these mysterious faked screenshots. Here's another fake from Aftershock Toolbox for Quake, if you're interested in expanding your WizardWorks armory:
  15. I'm looking for an early (pre-alpha?) screenshot of Doom 3. IIRC the HUD showed the player's face and the environment was a simple corridor with a crucified human on the wall; the texturing was reminiscent of Doom's green marble hell maps (I think....) Google image search has failed me. Anyone?

    This is a great idea.

    [FOUND] Doom Sky source files

I'd love to know more about your hunt for the source files. How did you come to check these specific CDs?
  18. Wow, that's an entire game's worth of resources. They're really well-made, too.
  19. Given that there are so many MarlboroMike resources available, perhaps the project's theme should be decided based on how effectively it can use those resources. On that topic, has anyone collected all his work together so we can get a comprehensive view of what is available?

    20 Years of PlayStation Doom.

I would hope so - aren't you named after QFG4's Lovecraftian deity?

    20 Years of PlayStation Doom.

While you're buying the new PS Doom soundtrack, check out his outstanding soundtrack for Quest for Glory: Shadows of Darkness, which has some similarities with the more conventionally musical tracks from PS Doom and Doom 64 and is IMO one of the all-time best game soundtracks: https://aubreyhodges.bandcamp.com/album/quest-for-glory-shadows-of-darkness-official-soundtrack
  22. I think using Freedoom attic resources as a foundation is both practical and kind of apposite: the attic resources predate a Freedoom 1.0 just like Wolf3D predates Doom.

New STF faces (bearded badass and tough babe)

If this becomes the new status bar face (and I would be happy if it did), the former status bar face would work well in a FreeWolf based on ECWolf.

You MUST play this Quake map pack.

    Turok HD Remaster out tomorrow

I think the "wind-ups" were made so long to give players a chance to run behind the enemies and backstab them with the knife (a move that deals extra damage).
