    Oh wow that's really cool. It was even before they adopted the colour value 'steps of four' series ( 0, 3, 7, 11, ... ) for hardware compatibility's sake. These alpha palettes might actually be closer to id's true intent!

    It's hard to believe the Jag and PC versions were around at the same time. The Jag looks almost as good as GZDoom if you take out the green tint. These are shaders but you can easily see the jump in quality from 8 bit to CRY:

    Ah so the tool was a fixed shape- interesting! That means that the Spiderdemon should look like the thinner variant of these two, with the maintained chaingun...

    That's a neat demonstration using the Mancubus' arm and probably explains why I prefer the ganglier Archvile too. There are other elements which still indicate they were designed for a square aspect though. Check out the barrel exit of the Super shotgun in both modes: The bottom barrel appears to be shorn off at an angle from the effect of narrowing. Then there's the Mastermind's chaingun which is oval shaped in-game instead of circular and even map architecture is altered from it's design. It's beginning to seem like a real hodge podge actually X)

    The second one is actually the aberration. Before the DOS release there was a version for Next Computers which looked like the first. Afterwards id Software made the Jaguar port and fixed the aspect to resemble the first again.

    For me it's not what age it was played at but whether it was played on a CRT that determines the nostalgia. So much atmosphere is lost now on my LCD with it's over-exposed shadows. (Not knocking LCDs mind you, it's just not what the palette was made for).

    Maybe give me a reminder in a couple of weeks when I'm not swamped and I'll give it a try. It's weird that the model snaps around like that because in videos I've seen they usually turn way too slow. Unless they are attacking and then they can do 180s in an instant \_:/_/

    Extra rotations =/= smoother animation though. Edit: Rotations have more in common with polygon count if anything.

    I can only theorize, but you could try syncing the positions of multiple dummy actors with SetOrigin and offset their angles with one or more of these properties. Then swap their visibility around depending on their angle to the player so that you only ever see the "closest" one. I haven't actually played with those options before though so I'm hoping they can do what you need...

    You're not forced into using all 82 angles, you can just add top and/or bottom as you like. And at any point you could just use a model instead, people have their preferences :P

    I do a mod on the ZDoom forums that can give up to 82 rotations (as extra elevations though) if anyone wants to go nuts.

    No apologies necessary! I was done with this long ago. I keep getting dragged back to the thread when other people understandably question my old (and now confusing) posts. Then The-Heretic-Assassin piles on to complete the circle. I've made up my mind and against reasonable conscience I've decided to remove my earlier posts.

    Does anyone have the source for the Spider Masterminds 'Sight' sound?

    I always assumed it was someone saying Where were you? with lots of effects added. Gave me the creeps thinking I was some sort of lost "play thing".
