    Emergency medical help needed.

I am not sure if this is allowed on here, but I am trying it anyway. My apologies if this is not allowed here, I just don't know where to go anymore with this. I need serious help for my mother who suffered a brain aneurysm and we cannot afford the costs for an emergency surgery. She is suffering and has been suffering for some time now. Before this happened, she was diagnosed with a blood disorder earlier this year and we believe that may have led to this. She has no medical insurance or healthcare. She previously did but lost it a few years ago. With no healthcare, my family has went into something of a downward spiral financially as we all have pitched in to pay for the ridiculous insane prices to send her to doctors. These doctor visits have cost hundreds of dollars and prescriptions for much needed meds that are also outrageously priced. Back in May, I started selling off various collectibles I've owned throughout my life and she pawned off all her jewelry over time to pay for these costs. I sold off the majority of my Star Wars collection of figures and memorabilia, as well as all the vinyls I had been collecting from my childhood. We are to a point where we can't bring anymore stuff to any pawn shops or the flea market. Usually I would never post something personal like this online, but it's becoming scarier by each passing day as you watch someone suffer helplessly. I don't want to end up losing my mother. If you can help us, please do. https://www.gofundme.com/rm3h8c-emergency-surgery-for-mom&rcid=r01-153179521281-50f0f93bb7d74ba3&pc=ot_co_campmgmt_w
  2. These look pretty cool. They look like refurbished versions of the classic sprites.
  3. I think all of us have a number of rocket launcher deaths from being reckless with it. Lost souls running into you while firing a rocket often is an automatic easy death. Revenants have killed me a number of times trying to do dumb things.

What do you listen to when you're playing Doom?

Nothing, just the music that's playing. I get tired of the Metal style MIDIs though and often replace them with a WAD that uses the ambient Aubrey Hodges music from the PSX version.

    Something doesn't seem right...

Youtube's recommendations are pretty bad. Lord help you if you end up accidentally clicking on something conspiracy related or with the word "feminists" in the title and then having your recommendations get overrun with pseudo-intellectual bullshit.

    Your Guilty Doom Pleasure

Mine is wasting the rocket launcher on hitscanners and imps just to see them explode into gibs.
  7. Net neutrality was just killed in the U.S., so I expect eve more problems to arise.
  8. This is a tough one for me. Where I grew up, we had to travel 1 hour into town to find the nearest commercial fast food joint. The rural town I grew up in was dominated by local mom and pop style diners. Most of those diners are still standing today, with one of them having existed for several decades now despite their expensive menu. The only real commercial fast food place we had was a Hardee's way deep in town. Going for fast food like McDonalds and Burger King in my childhood was something rare and seen as an amazing thing (my family was very poor back in the 90's and the recession from 2008 has made my adult life a difficult one in terms of financial stability). In the early 2000's, Sonic came around and was there for a while. By 2008-2009, we finally saw a McDonalds in town. Sonic quickly went out of business in less than two years. Hardee's could've stuck around since they did get a lot of business in the morning hours when everyone was going to work, but they eventually shut their doors too. Going to have to say Wendy's though. Their fries are my favorite though I can count on my hand how often I've been to a Wendy's, since it's a long drive for me. I wish they'd build one close to where I live cause it's just nothing but McDonalds now with Hardee's and Sonic gone.

    Recommendations for Total Conversions?

Try Doom 64: Retribution. It uses all the wonders of GZDoom's lighting effects and has tons of bonus content.

I think John Carmack was wrong in regards to a story in video games.

You have to consider the era in which Doom was made and video games at the time. Gameplay always comes first above everything, Carmack's words are still correct regarding this. But most games at the time did not have big cut scenes and elaborate storylines, and the ones that did often kept it toned down compared to the standard of today. Video games today are like Hollywood movies and it's the norm to have a big storyline and tons of dialogue and so on. I like how Doom barely has any story because it forces the player to use their imagination to fill in the gaps and come to conclusions on their own. Doom didn't need a big story, since it was just really about you killing demons in outer space. The original Legend of Zelda followed this approach. All the storyline was in the manual and the start screen. You were dropped into the world of Hyrule and just start exploring around. All the dialogue was clues and hints to help you. You had to use your imagination with the places and locations. Maybe it's because I'm older and grew up with these classic games, but I'd prefer seeing games go back to this simplistic approach of not caring about a storyline and focusing all their efforts on gameplay. I could care less about witty dialogue, cut scenes, pretty graphics and a grand storyline that makes me feel special. Just give me something that is fun to play and a challenge I'll feel good about conquering.

    Doom 64 Monster Count

Does anyone have the monster count for Doom 64 on all levels and difficulties? I checked the Doom Wiki and only some of the levels have the count for WMD difficulty. I would like to count up how many times certain monsters are used in the levels so I'm looking for the information.

    What are you listening to?

The greatest Post-Punk album ever made. If you don't have Marquee Moon in your collection, you're missing out on a masterpiece.

Just a couple levels. The entire monster count for all levels is missing.

The big thread of what E3 announcements interest you!

Just hoping when Nintendo comes around that we get an announcement for Fire Emblem on the Switch. My dream for Fire Emblem for several years has been a remake of Genealogy of the Holy War. After seeing Gaiden remade into Echoes: Shadows of Valentina, I think it could be done right.

    Lets talk Doom 2!

I think that's a problem with Doom 2 wads at times, getting the SSG handed to you in the first or second map. Requiem did it right by making you wait to get it. Totally agree on using the regular shotgun to take out enemies in range. It's easy for players to say the SSG is overpowered due to close range, but you can't hit much from a long distance. Sometimes I truly believe the SSG was put into the game to deal with revenants quickly. It only looks overpowered when it's used to mow down a whole row of gunners and imps.

    Doom 64 Monster Count

I will try that soon, thank you. I've never loaded a map into anything, so this will be a first.

    Lets talk Doom 2!

Thy Flesh Consumed uses barons much more heavily than Doom 2 does. Doom 2 introduced the Hell Knight to use at times because taking down Barons take a lot of time and ammo unless you have the BFG. If you ever play Doom 64, that game absolutely loves the hell knights and barons. They're the most used monsters in those two games (excluding the gunners and imps) I made a long post some time ago comparing Doom 1 and Doom 2 breaking down the differences between the two. Doom 1 looks better because much of the level design is focused around neat buildings and giving off the vibe that you're really exploring some military base in E1 and then a morphing, rotting hellish military base in E2 all the way to being actually in hell in E3. Doom 2's level design is more focused around combat scenarios that are more memorable than the levels themselves, and that's why a lot of players find the Doom 2 maps to look ugly. You can definitely see the influence of Doom 2's style on Plutonia where it focused exclusively on combat scenarios and challenge.
  20. Big Rigs is so hilarious it has to be played to be believed. I seen videos of it years ago and did not believe my eyes until I had experienced it.

Chromatics - Kill For Love. I wish this band was more commonly known outside of indie circles.

    The Doom Confessional Booth

True, the game makes up for their absence by changing things. The chain gun and SSG are more powerful and I believe it's the reason Hell Knights and Barons are so prominently used through out the game. I feel this way about the use of traps as well, to make up for the lack of revenants.

Best Map in All of Ultimate Doom, Doom II, TNT Evilution, The Plutonia Experiment

Doom 1 - All of E1 and then bits and pieces from the other episodes. E2M3, E2M6, E3M2, E3M5, E3M6, E3M7. I find Containment Area to be a bit overrated. It's a fun level but it's aggravating to complete 100% all secrets and kills due to all the lost souls and it's so easy to overlook an imp in the box crate maze and not reach 100% kills. Don't get me wrong, I like this level, but I don't think it's the best designed map in all of Doom 1. I like Romero's maps in E1 better. Computer Station is my pick for best level design in Doom 1, and Halls of the Damned is my pick for best of E2. Thy Flesh Consumed - E4M2, yes it's extremely difficult but it's possible to beat even without the BFG trick. E4M6 is also a good pick if you're basing it off extreme difficulty and challenge. E4 is amazing and would probably be considered the best episode of the old Doom if not for it's ridiculously difficult opener with Hell Beneath (Unruly Evil should've been the opening map IMO, swap it with Hell Beneath and it has much better progression). Doom 2 - Lots of good levels based around combat. Dead Simple is the first that deserves mention and then Downtown, Industrial Zone and Courtyard. Bloodfalls and The Abandoned Mines are also great, but I think The Living End is the best all around map of all of Doom 2 and you can definitely see the inspiration it led to with TNT's design around exploration and giant levels. TNT - Dead Zone is my pick for best all around map in TNT. There's also Nukage Processing, Power Control, Heck and Redemption. It's easy to hate TNT cause it has the three worst maps in an official game (Habitat, Mount Pain and Metal) but there's some real gems tucked in there beyond the inconsistent level design and themes. Plutonia - This is the hardest choice because every last one of these maps is well designed. I'm going to say Hunted because there simply isn't another map like it in all of the official games. The Casali brothers took inspiration from many official maps, but there is nothing similar to Hunted. The appeal to that map is out of it's uniqueness and using Archvilles to their absolute most threatening potential.

    The Doom Confessional Booth

Doom 64 would be my favorite Doom game ever if only it had the missing monsters and a couple more tech base levels.
