Doom WADs in Quake2 style ?

Hi I love Quake2 level design and style. Not a big fan of gloomy, occultish or creepy stuff. So there is a question - is there any good Doom2 wads, heavily based on Quake 2 design? I found that Back to Saturn X E1 is amazing and probably best wad I've ever played. Thanks for help.
  2. Thanks Mechadon ! Seem like using loading mods order in the way You've mentioned works !
  3. Thanks guys for replay. Well thankfully there are idclip or idclev when scripts don't work. Anyway, must admited, that those N64 levels are much more advanced than I've axcepted
  4. Just checked lvl11 with clean gzdoom and yes it worked ! After killing CyberDemon exit door opens and voila ! Now funny thing - with brutal doom (I'm Doom fan since 95, but I think that those "crap" brutal mod is fantastic) those exit doors remain closed after killing cyberdemon. And as I said before, all those maps, where You must kill cyberdemon (or probably other monster) to proceed seems bugged. Seems like triger placed on monster doesn't work in some mods. It will be nice if You check what's going on.
  5. First: Great work ! Now, back to the business :) Recently when playing this wad in gzdoom 3.6.0 + project brutality 3.0 (imo slighty better than Butal v21) and there is a problem. In levels like lvl11 (Cat and Mouse) or lvl 20, lvl 21 , when You've got to kill Cyberdemon to end (probably)map, there is nothing happened after killing him. Nothing triggered. Everything killed, switched or checked. Must use IDCLEV cheat to pass those levels :( Am I missing something or it's some kind of bug ?

Thaks for continuing my Saturn and map 02 mines ! To the business: Yeah, never thought that polishing this old wad in modern editor will cause so much trouble in vanilla mode. I was wrong. Sorry. Just fixed Saturn description in his thread. And yes - if You can, just play rest of maps in gzdoom. Hope all those silly "sky" glitches gone for good. It works for me. Yeah I always thought that almost constant height for mines is bad idea, but in DCK (editor in which I"ve made Saturn) era, "playing" with heights was a real pain in the @ss. As for same wall texture - it's just a mines so it was intended to be like that. Just rock/dirt with some addition from time to time. I think that "train" is most memorable (and big FAN in area where You finally found some ammo!) part of mines. But in vanilla Saturn was a little different! There wasn't a long road that leads to big hole and "tell story"! It was just a "blocking" line just few metres ahead of train. But today I found it cheap and incomplete so I added those new sectors into train area to feel complete ! Just Look: Saturn 1.0 train area: Saturn 2.0 train area Well, Saturn was made to be played "continually". If You started map 02 with zero equipment it may happen. But shouldn't. As You noticed Mines isn't a straight forward map, but You've got many ways to go! Bad thing is that You've choosed worst way to progress hehehe. And missed few secrets that You were really really close to them ! (just a few pixels). Just missed maybe best secret in game (from time to time I think it's little OP). Right here: Remember - when You find, empty (wthout key, switch or good item(s)) dead end - there is secret for sure (maybe for 99% ;)) Yup, even I, when played Saturn after all those years got confused from time to time! But now I know why! Back then in 2000 we havent all around Call of Duty aka self played, one way corridor games with self restorin health. Saturn is inspired by largest levels from Doom/Quake/Dn3D/Blood/Unreal franchise - and they weren't easy in terms of complacation. Much, much more complicated tha todays FPS! NOW: You just escaped from mines, as You know it wasn't easy. Now there is a refinerry. Not as dark and creepy as mines. It's a modern structure based on e1m1/quake2 levels. But if You think that You're safer her ? Wrong ! Try to find super secret ! It's fun, cool got same cakes and other stuff. BIG ones! ;)

First of all thanks for playing my Saturn! It's great feeling to see that someone other than me, finally playing it after all those years! (I was 17 when I've made Saturn). And never, ever play vanilla Saturn, with all those taxtures bugs and etc, etc You will prabably have a heart attack ;) Now to the business :) I'm sad and I wanna almost cry because all those sky-glitch textures on floor or celling are very weird and should not happen. Probably it's because of port :( Map (and probably later ones) looks so stupid. Maybe try use gzdoom. You can get out form the pits around the bridge. Some pillars are just elevators. Maybe doesn't work on Your port. No idea. Metal texture is one of my fav, that's why a lot of them. PS - now level2 - Mines ! Claustrophobic, quite dark, spooky and larger than map1 Pipeline. You'll probably lost a lot and imps and demons just waiting for that ;) PS2 - look for helpful secrets :) There is alway (or almost always) a hint.

Hi ! Try my Saturn then. I made it in 2000 and now, after 18 years and tons of fixes in last few weeks, Saturn is officially released. It's medium wad (7 medium-long levels) and each level focused on specific theme. More about exploration (many secrets) than heavy fights (only one imo medium difficulty). Can be played as well in vanilla, gzdoom or Brutal. With freelook or without. Jumping is prohibited of course. Love to see video with a commentary about my stuff. Saturn Saturn's thread:
  9. Thanks for playing and even for video ! Just updated download links to mediafire :)
  10. Hello everybody! I made this wad in 2000 (v1.0) and finally after 18 years - here it is !!! Saturn is officially released (v2.0) ! Quick Q&A and some screenshots. Q: So if You made Saturn in 2000 and released now (2018), the for who You've made it back then? A: For me and thow of my friends (yeah it sounds crazy, but our joy from creating new stuff for our beloved game was amazing) Q: What is Saturn about? A: Well it's medium sized wad for Doom2 including 7 (MAP01-MAP07) levels. Q: What about wad difficulty and size of levels? A: There is only one difficulty and it's rather medium imo. Honestly I never was fan of hardcore difficulty. Levels are from medium to large. It takes about 2-3 hours to finish Saturn. Q: Why it's called Saturn. A: It's my fav planet, nothing more! And mus say that this wad has nothing to do with other "saturn" themed wads. Hey ! After all it was created in 2000! :) Q: If it was made in 2000 so probably works with everything ? A: Probably yes ! But even if Saturn was made for vanilla Doom2, after all those modern fixes, it is a little buggy in vanilla (many tahnks to HAK3180 for find it out) so I recommend to play it with gzdoom port plus Brutal or especially Project Brutality mod. Q: On which editor Saturn was created? A: An obsolete DCK (Dooom Construction Kit)-f.e. without 3D view (fixing textures was a nightmare!) and runs only in DOS mode. No idea how I manage and finished Saturn but nobody complain about DCK back then! Q: It is the same version as in 2000? A: Yes and no! For past 3-4 weeks, thankfully to Doom Builder I made tons of bug fixes, gameplay changes, etc, etc, even added few new areas ! But mainly Saturn is the same as it was 2000 (version 1.0) but with general facelifting (that's why is called version 2.0). Q: So after all those fixes, Saturn 2.0 is for sure 100% bug free? A: Probably not, but wayyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy (trust me!) better than v1.0 Q: Is there any gameplay theme of Saturn? A: Each map has different theme. Focuesd mainly on discovering and exploration. From modern factories to creepy tombs! Everyone will find something for himself. Q: I love secrets ! Are they in Saturn? A: I love them too! And Saturn is full of them! Just examine surroundings. There is always a hint! Q: ... but 7th map is a total mayhem! A: It's final boss fight map. It must be mayhem! Q: Can I jump, crouch or free look ? A: Even if it was made in 2000, You can crouch or free look. But jumping is NOT allowed ! Or You break balance. Q: What about co-op or deathmatch? A: Saturn is heavy and only focused on single player. I think that co-op may work somehow but deathmatch doesn't. Q: Any new graphic, music or sound. A: Really few: Pistol sound (imo original one sucks), Demon alert sound, help, intermission screen and sky texture (its from D1E1 imo best one). Music is mix of imo best songs from D1/D2 Q: Why so late ? Man, after 18 years ? Are You serious ? A: Better late than never :) .... and honestly maybe Saturn isn't as good as Your modern wads (for sure it isn't) but after tons of changes that I've made recently and few playthroughs must admit that it isn't as bad either. Q: Your english sucks man! A: Correct! But as long as You understand me it's ok ;) Q: This wad sucks man! A: Please don't kick this old dog! :) Q: Can I share or edit Your wad ? A: Yes! Q: Can I play finally ? A: Download and play! Rip and tear! PS - One plea, if You can upload this wad in other Doom wad/mod servers it will be very nice.
