  1. I might be in the minority here being aggravated about this but it seems like most tutorials blow right by information that helps you understand how the tool works. I don't care about making steps or textures or other shit that 12 monkeys and a typewriter could figure out in less than 5 minutes. Are there tutorials that explain the tool from the beginning? I want to know what the different engines are and why you might use them. I want to know how resource packs work. I want to know how Doombuilder interfaces with other apps like Slade and why it matters. I don't want to be told what to do, I want to be told what each aspect of the tool does comprehensively and what you use it for. I've looked through a # of tutorials already and haven't found one that focuses from the ground up on how the tool works. Maybe that tutorial exists and someone can point me to it?

  4. You know I've finally put my finger on what this reminds me of, Resident Evil. Lots of RE vibes. Extremely good stuff, I don't even know what to say, this looks better all the time.

    My gripes with Doom II

    I felt like the additions to the bestiary and the super shotgun were great, but the maps were pretty tepid. There were a couple standouts but for the most part the campaign is forgettable. I personally don't care for vanilla wads released now. Without the SSG and archviles etc. the game feels much more limited.
  6. I felt like it ramped up very quickly, I'm not an ubergod Doom player or anything but I can complete wads like Sunlust, etc. and I was struggling a little by the 3rd map. One thing to consider is that there are new mechanics, enemies and weapons etc. in play here so that can have a bit of a learning curve to throw on top of the existing difficulty. Understood. I hope people are watching what you're up to because I think you're really onto something here. I'm kind of reminded of how Valiant rejiggered the Doom experience in more subtle ways, this is more extreme but very entertaining and works quite well. I noticed you mentioned mapping not being your strongest suit, I thought the maps were pretty strong but collabbing with one or several of the communities top mappers could really produce an incredible megawad that would probably feel almost like an entirely new game.
  7. Awesome stuff. I thought it was balanced a little on the difficult side, you might want to consider scaling down the 2 lower difficulties a bit to make it more accessible (especially since it's a gameplay mod, I'm sure there are less skilled players out there who might want to enjoy all the delicious new gameplay elements without hitting a brick wall). Are you planning a full campaign? I'm not a mapper but I have to imagine that mappers out there might want to collaborate with you on this. IMO this is really good and deserves a full campaign. As it stands even in beta form this is tremendous. Thanks for all your hard work.

    Has anyone extracted that audio from map 9 of SD20x7? That's one of my favorite tunes (the "Native" arrangement on Magnus from SD20x6 is awesome too). Does Ribbiks upload his music anywhere?
