    Generations Arena

    Shit.

    Generations Arena

Hey, Have you guys heard of Generations Arena? It's a Quake 3 mod that allows you to use the Doom weapons in multiplayer, among other things. I thought I should mention it here, because I've not seen any news about it on Doomworld before, and I thought some of the people who read this site might be interested! http://www.planetquake.com/wirehead/generations/index.shtml It looks awesome to me!

    16 Bit PSX Doom SFX

So do you need a plugin to get the genesis music files to work?

    16 Bit PSX Doom SFX

Re: Never Again Okay, then I'm not just looking for a wad with the PSX sound effects at 16 bit. I'm looking for one that has them at the rate they were originally sampled at in the playstation version. I think it would have been higher than 11,025 Hz. And, Re: Pregnant with Worms Does that program allow you to play like, any midi tracks so that they sound like they did on the Genesis? Might have to download a few Streets of Rage midis if it does. BTW where do you get it? Cheers.

    16 Bit PSX Doom SFX

About not being able to tell the difference between 8 and 16 bit sounds- record yourself saying something wcth sound recorder setting the bit rate to 16 bit, then play it back. Convert it to 8 bit and you will see it's easy to tell the difference between them. If it wasn't, DVDs would have audio at 8 bit instead of 16 like they do.. And BTW ZDoom and a bunch of other launchers can handle 16 bit sounds.

    16 Bit PSX Doom SFX

Hi A couple of months ago, I downloaded a wad that replaced the sounds for Doom II with the PSX sound effects. Recently I took a look inside the wad with an editor and discovered that the sound effects are 8 bit. I always thought the PSX Doom sound effects were recorded at 16 bit? My reasoning for this is that they seem slightly clearer on my PSX Doom than they do on the PC conversion. Maybe it's just the echo effect in areas of the PSX edition, but if anyone knows if the PSX sounds are actually 16 bit, and of a wad that puts those 16 bit sounds in the PC version, that would be cool.

    Just Cleared TNT

It was cool the way the flaming torches at the start corresponded to the correct route, but the rest of the level was disappointing. I recently cleared Plutonia the same way, and, although Plutonia had a better final level, and a lot of cool cyberdemon levels, I thought TNT had a much better mix of levels, and was generally a little more fun.

    Just Cleared TNT

Never Again: When I said I only saved when I went away from the computer, I didn't mean by that that I reloaded that save game if I died. Whenever I died, I restarted that level from scratch. And yeah, Central Processing is a beautiful level, but the original sky sucked a bit. When I played through I was using the starry night sky from those Dante levels. Fucking cool. The level I thought most like Doom was actually River Styx. Very cool indoor areas. And hey, I actually thought Mount Pain looked cool too. Those hellish buildings on the horizon were rocking. As for the cashing in on Doom II thing; why couldn't they have just done something a bit more original, with the existing monsters? Maybe a battle with two cyberdemons and a mass of other mosters.. anything other than the boring old Romero head monster. But that shit in the second last text screen (the one before admin center)- the thing about "this place smells familiar- like fried excrement" that had me laughing my ass off. So THAT'S what he lived on during Doom II.

    Just Cleared TNT

Hi, I just woke up in the middle of the night (couldn't sleep because I had a stomach ache) and ended up FINALLY clearing TNT for the first time. I played on UV, only saving if I went away from the computer. My thoughts.. The last level - WTF?! You shoot the fucking demon in the nose?! That took me forever to work out. Well, 3 days anyway heh. And when I did it was like.. how boring? You end up killing it in like.. 10 seconds. I was hoping for something a bit more original than a John Romero monster for the last boss. That cyberdemon in there was utterly feeble, too. A real anti-climax. However, there are some fucking CRACKING levels. Central processing and Admin center both stand out for being huge, rock hard, but ultimately supremely satisfying (and fair) levels. And the hell levels like Mount Pain, Heck, and River Styx were just awesomely atmospheric, in a Doom 1 kinda way. Green bricks and hell skies rock! This wad has some absolete classic levels. It's a shame it was let down by such a crap ending. And WTF is up with the difficulty level? It goes up and down like a yo-yo.

    D/D2 Level Name Relevance

Wacky, kick ass answer, man! Interesting shit. And black hand I think you're half right- it did have an ironic twist but dis was used other than other words with the same meaning, because of it's relevance to stuff in the Doom story.. it's kinda a double meaning thing I think.

    Unappreciated Music

Hey I recently downloaded a couple of 3d0 Doom tracks from the phoenix-embodying Doom Depot and my reaction is... holy shit! This stuff is fucking rocking. It's made all the better by the absolute shitness of the game itself.. rock and roll! Anyone know of any other, true underground classic gaming music? I'd have to recommend Wolfenstein for the 3d0. Damn, I want those mp3s..

Thanks, guys. Any stuff about the inspiration for the monsters?

    Monster Background/ Info

Anyone know where I can find info on the ID intended background stories to the monsters in Doom/ Doom 2? Like where did the arachnotrons come from and how do they relate to hell spawn? Or any info on the inspiration/ thinking behind them?

Grimm, could you like, get the certain title/author of the book you recommend? I'd also be interested in reading it..
