So, I'm in hell at the moment, so far, I've been extremely disapointed with the scaryness of the game. This is not to say I don't like the game, it's great, I'm just disapointed that it hasn't been scary. So far 2 things have scared me, looking in the mirror in mars city post invasion and a random zombie jumping out at me. Delta labs 1 had great atmoshphere and I wish there was more stuff like that. Anyway, I'm rambling, anyone else agree that the game isn't scary?

Good call on realms of the haunting and undying. Undying is one of my favourite games of the last 10 years.

Well... After replaying doom 3 several times now it has gone from being a major dissapointment to me to a pretty excellent game. Alot of people complained about how doom 3 "wasn't doom". To be honest, i think the reverse is true. I think doom 1 and 2 weren't doom and that this is how ID wanted it to be. Doom 3 is all about the atmosphere. I remeber back in the day that i didn't like playing the original hell levels, because they were just...nasty. You didn't want to go any further. Doom 3 is executed very well, the production is excellent. once you have got over the shock of what it isn't you start appreciating it for what it is. Bring on RoE!

except he doesn't sound orc like, he sounds like betruger. you can very clearly hear that it is him.
-
It's betruger. Your not supposed to think its anything else, it's very obviously him.

what's wrong with the atlantic or indian? :D

Trites were definatly the most annoying. Not once were they a challange, it was just a case of using up shells until they stopped crawling out of the wall. bitches.

Played with all the lights out, normally in the early hours of the morning, 00:00-2ish sometimes 10:00-00:00 good qualtiy headphones turned up. I figured out part of it, my gfx card is shit. Played it at a mates with everything on, high detail at 1024X768, total different experience, in paticular, specular, shadows and Bmapping make all the differece. still not scary though :P

RE: Blisk. Stuff like this pisses me off, where the hell are his parents and what are they doing buying him a game which, based on his posts in this thread and others, is basically traumatising him. I definatly agree that it's eerie as you said airman, it's just after comments such as "this game is going to scare the shit out of you" from ID staff...you get the idea. Ah well, I look forward to the mods!

^^^^^^ this is why the game is an 18.

On an off topic note, I love the original mancubus noise being in the game ;). I find it highly immersive, I have a damn good imagination, hell, back in the day I used to run around my house all day "shotgun" in hand, blasting back demons ;). The silent hill comparison, i'll say again, is a good one, I wanted a game that was very close to being too scary to play.
-
haha :) I think the problem was predictability, you know that in a non PDA/safe room armour/ammo = monsters teleporting in. I got out of hell last night and in delta again, good tension, hope it keeps it up.
-
Yeah, as I say, this isn't me criticising(sp) how good the game is, it's been great so far, with a great rhythem, very much like classic doom. Silent Hill Vs Resi is a great comparison, Silent Hill got inside your head, that's what I was hoping doom 3 would be like. I was hoping it would be more...nasty. I think this is the problem with having played Doom since I was 8, I don't think they would be allowed to put something out capable of scaring me ;)

I'm pretty sure it was Bobby Price, may it was Bobby prince, not sure..
-
lol, I wish I could but I really can't remeber. I started again because it was to easy so I started on veteran and skipped to recycling, not sure if it was before or after that, just had a thought I think it's in delta labs 1. first room in the level.

Don't know if it's been pointed out, you pick up Robert Price's PDA at one point.

I just got Doom 3 yesterday. I have 2 machines at home, one is the family comp, one is my dads. My dad's is a P4 2.2gig, 512 ram and a 64meg geforce 4 MX440 the family comp is a P4 1.7 gig, 256 ram, 64 meg geforce 2 MX My dad's out of the country so obviously it was time to get Doom 3 and install it, I have to get through it and delete it before he gets back though because he's one of these people who thinks games break computers. Anywho, I thought I would try it on the family PC first, see if it would run, I didn't think it would even open. The game runs smooth(ish) on the family rig, slow down when you go through doors but other than that it's playable. I say playable, you need more patience than I have but I still think it's pretty impressive. Anyway, on it went to my dad's comp. I've just got to the alpha labs as I'm only going to play it at night. Hasn't been scary at all so far other than when I went back into the toilet at the beggining and looked in the mirror. That made me jump out of my seat. Anymore of that kind of stuff? I find that far scarier than monsters jumping out at me, which so far hasn't been at all scary.

I'm 18, my parents got me doom 2 for christmas when I was 8 \m/. They never had a problem with me playing violent video games.
-
Well, as a student, my only hope of playing doom 3 is to convinve my dad to let me use his comp because out of our 2 shitty dells his is the only one which meets the requirements. the spec is 128meg gforce4mx440 2.5gig p4 512 ram I know about how annoying system requirement posts are but i just wanted to make this as people now have the game and we can really see how well the game runs. I want to know how much of a bottleneck the card will act as, as the rest of the spec is above the minimum... thanks in advance, and sorry for the spec question :P
-
Lol, he was never a gamer to begin with! I'm 18 now and having been playing doom since I was 8 :) even then he didn't see the apeal of games :S anyway, my computer's specs are 1.7 gig p4 256 megs ram 64meg geforce 2mx440 i take it there is no chance of running doom 3 on that?
-
lol, well, he said no. fuck. no doom 3 for me. I need a job and a new computer. now.
-
Yeah, I will try...The problem is my dad is pretty technophobic. His computer is a work computer and so he is very (very) paranoid about anything damaging it.
-
Lol, I just found that, making this thread pretty redundant. Read that, I'm happy, I had resigned myself to having to wait another year for doom 3. Now to convince my dad...hmm I would totaly be happy playing the game at that level...maybe up the res to 800X600 in exchange for some detail drops. Thanks for the link man.

If it doesn't have "let the obsession beging...again!" on the back then I refuse to buy it :P
