  3. With Xbox One getting mouse and KB support, there will be almost no reason to suffer with the Bethesda launcher on PC if the game gets sacked with it. Of course if the game ends up having mtx, I will skip it altogether, however much it will hurt my soul to have to do so.

    @Dusty Any chance you have a pic of the two different arachnotron variants side by side? I am currently searching for a direct comparison and there's nothing to be found anywhere. Very frustrating.

    With some of the concessions I mentioned, it should be doable on PSX. Not sure about N64, but, you could probably pull it off there also.
  7. I've been wanting to say basically this for quite a while now but couldn't put it in good words. I keep feeling like there should be an official statement from our sites to the effect, because hatred and bigotry and bullying are not welcome in this community regardless of motivation, and the desire to inflict such things on people is not a valid matter for political discourse in the first place.

    As far as the Icon of Sin goes I can state there was almost definitely a memory constraint issue there as well - spawning monsters at runtime in the Jag-based ports is a really bad idea because it increases zone fragmentation severely - this is why Nightmare skill level with respawn is also disabled. There's no way that MAP30 from PC would remain stable for very long on the PSX. Also, with the way VRAM budgeting works for monsters, the number of types of monsters it could have spawned would have to be severely cut-down, and a limit placed on the number that could be active at one time would also have had to be added (which requires scanning the mobj queue, which is expensive in terms of processing time). I'm sure if anybody could ever get ahold of Aaron Seeler, he'd back up this reasoning.

    There are actually two of them now (a Doom 3 themed one, and a Doom (2016) one). The Doom 3 game also had an expansion pack.

    The base palette used for the Jaguar version is the same as the PC, but the CRY colors that are looked up using it are naturally and necessarily slightly different, because CRY is a relatively small color space. There's a significant amount of hue distortion, and most of it is in the green direction, as is usually the case with 16-bit color spaces. This is probably what you're seeing creating the noticeably "richer" skin complexion.

    People are now getting banned from the service for having Cheat Engine just installed on their computer, even if it's never being run at all, or not being specifically run with any Bethesda games. There are rumors circulating also that people are getting banned for using ReShade, or for modding the game.

Am I on to something here? Remember what happened to the UAC in Final Doom - it was repurposed into an organization with the explicit mission of fighting Hell: This logo would seem to be from a UAC with just such a mission. The central sword stabs down through something resembling a gateway of sorts, into flames, where it strikes at the tip with force denoted by the streaks or sparks coming out. But hey, maybe I'm crazy :)

    Since late last year I have occasionally been using some of my scant free time to plug away on a back-port of Jaguar Doom to the PC. As of the last couple of weeks it is now capable of dry-running all of the gamesim and most of the renderer (there is no screen output quite yet, but it's close), opening an SDL rendering context with hardware upscaling capability, and accepting very basic input (such as getting the window to close). To finish this I have to reverse engineer the remainder of the GAS assembler files for the Tom and Jerry ASICs (most of this is done already), get key bindings working, get sound working, and finish translation of the CRY-16 framebuffer contents into an RGB 32-bit texture for display. It can load either a Jaguar Doom ROM of any format, or the extracted jagdoom.wad file from inside it, and accepts either format as the argument to -iwad. The Github project is at https://github.com/team-eternity/calico-doom if you want to keep tabs on the development blow-by-blow. Here's a cute screenshot of it running the demos as fast as possible without any graphics output yet ;)

    I disagree because the depiction seems to draw from Byzantine iconography with the sun-like orb (though I suspect that's intended to be Mars in this case) in the background forming a halo, plus the partial or complete rings which frame two of their heads forming additional halos, while the third has wings like an angel. I believe that what we're looking at are this universe's equivalent of angels, the Seraphim - some kind of divine beings that are using their powers to protect or enhance humans instead of trying to conquer them as the demons are doing. They may in fact have organized and acted as mentors to the Night Sentinels, if I'm correct. That they look "similar" to the demons shouldn't be strange - if this is still drawing from Semitic traditions (and indications are good in that regard otherwise), they share the same creator/source. The demons rebelled against their creator or maybe just against the established order of these beings and became evil, while others became good. Remember that the being that gave the Doom Slayer his armor was described by the demons as a "heretic," ie., someone not believing in and following their cause. Isn't that how they would view angelic entities in comparison to themselves? It's all conjecture til we're shown more anyways.

    Given Hugo Martin is a self-described cinema buff, if he's making reference to that stuff deliberately, it shouldn't be surprising. Will be interesting to see if this gets confirmed as an influence at some point.

  25. If you are to worry, it'd have to be about the parts that are under the purview of Bethesda Softworks (the publishing arm). That'd be stuff like the release date setup (will they do something like a staggered release, since those are all the rage now, where significant bonuses or in-game content are locked behind pre-ordering?), the contents and quality of materials used in any special editions (like the infamous nylon bag), and possibly, any push they might be exerting on id Software to find means to monetize the Doom series with microtransactions (will things like the Doom 2016 player armor, demon types, etc end up having to be bought rather than unlocked through gameplay?). While we've been given zero indications that we should worry about this stuff with respect to Eternal itself, they are unfortunately the overwhelming trends in AAA game publishing at the moment and it'd almost be amazing if we don't see steps in that direction versus what we got in 2016.
