    Yeah it blows, but indeed! I should be able to get it close enough to what I had. It was a pretty neat looking map. Yeah man! This will be the 4th time this has happened. One would think I would've learned my lesson by now, aha!

    Sorry for my absence, computer died on me. Lost all my work. Gonna have to start over again, still remember most of the layout of map. Just got my computer recently. I'll begin work on it shortly.
  4. ayeoo, made this over the course of last weekend and just finished today. Computer died on me, finally got it fixed and began mapping again. This map was sorta winged, just thrown together without any real solid idea of what I wanted to do. I suggest playing it on GZDoom, Zdoom was a bit buggy, and I've yet to test it on any other ports. Only UV difficulty atm, some bits can get intense, but not impossible. There's one secret, still have to do a few touch ups. It isn't 100% complete yet.     Been lagging on my map. Had some stuff come up, still working through said stuff atm. I did get a nice chunk nearly finished off the other day, but my comp decided to crash and I didn't have my work saved. Gonna have to go back and redo everything. Hopefully I can get my shit sorted out irl soon enough and be back on that creative energy again and get a playable sample up here for testing.

    How to make good looking techbases??

    Playthrough some techbase maps and see what the creators did. As brodo said above, light levels are important, as well as interesting visuals in your rooms. Computer banks are great for making a room a little intersting, steps and different floor heights, as well as some smaller outdoor areas always add a tad of spice to a level. I love making techbase maps, so much you can do with them. Even with vanilla textures, you can make some pretty neat stuff. I like to avoid makjng corners in my rooms, i always put the linedefs at an angle of sorts to make a room a little more interesting. Also, computers hanging from the ceiling are always cool!

    Was working on this room all night. Went through a lot of designs before I settled on something I was happy with. Got a lot more to do with it, but it's coming along alright so far.

    So I decided to scrape the current map I was working on. I'll probs finish it, but I had better ideas that I wasn't able to fit into it. So I started a new one, with a better looking starting area to sorta fit with the theme of a canyon, sorta. I'll upload both of them and you can decide which one you would like to use if you'd like. But I might take awhile to finish, starting back up on that wagie life again. If things workout, I'll have weekends off to map all day. I'll post a screen of the new starting area when I finish it shortly.

    Alright coolio, not gonna be a very nasty teleport trap. I want to have a cavern area, where there is a free supercharge in the middle of this pool. When the player goes to nab it, I would like to have a few revs, imps and hitscanners beam in with a few demons who teleport in on the ground below. Nothing the player cannot handle. They'll be well equipped by that time. Plus a few teleports when you grab keys and stuff. It won't be like the Suburbs where a billion guys start spawning into the map. But shall I make a difficult/cryptic secret for the BFG? I don't like to give good stuff away for easily or freely without some kind of cost, be it monster ambush or keeping your eyes peeled for shootable switches or well hidden doors/switches.

    Thanks brodo! I figured I'd try and give this techbase a vintage feel with a modern look and feel to it with the rocky/subterranean bits. I played through your map the other day. No joke, when that hanging corpse popped out, legit spooked my ass! Creepy map, kept me on edge the whole time. That fight with pinkies caught me off guard the first time around. Also! At the exit, I dunno if you changed it, but the two corners, the player can fall into those holes and not get out. Might want to set the linedef to block the player.

    @Ofisil was wondering if I should have an open area at the start of the map, with the sky. Only problem is, it's the city sky texture. I just don't really like my starting room and think it would be cooler to have the player enter some kinda bunker type deal. If not, no worries. I can work around this and do some retooling. Also, is it okay to put computer banks, lights and other little details along the walls of the boarder? I'm trying to utilize as much space as I can within the limits. Oh! Once last thing! map 16 in Doom2 has a nasty teleport trap, is it okay if I do the same, nothing impossible, but using teleport traps would spice up combat a lot!
